Game of the Year? Look to the New Big Ten, But it Won't Come from The Game

Recommended Posts

Most years, the regular-season finale between Ohio State and Michigan is in the mix. The annual rivalry dubbed The Game for its elite potential, the Buckeyes and Wolverines traditionally face off for the highest of stakes.

This time around, the Big Ten is poised to produce another game of the year for college football, but the annual rivalry showdown could take a backseat to one matchup. That game will be Ohio State’s road trip to face Oregon on Oct. 12

One matchup in the new Big Ten is bound to compete to be the game of the year from the 2024 season.

ESPN says Oregon is ready for the physicality of the Big Ten Conference

The first thing Dan Lanning wanted to do when he came to Oregon and analyzed the roster was to get the Ducks more physical across the board, especially up front

The Oregon Ducks Will Make the 2024 College Football National Championship

The National Championship favorites at the moment are Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas. And yet, it’s the Oregon Ducks who have the best chance of them all to truly win the championship in 2024...

NJ, thanks for the Saturday Tradition link. Saturday Tradition is now Oregon's 'Saturday site' as Saturday Out West, like the Pac-12 (sorry, Canzano) has disappeared.

The odds on the Ohio State at Oregon game have flipped from Oregon -1.5 to Ohio State -1.5. So, if Oregon is receiving the 3-point home game bump, Ohio State can be viewed as a -4.5 favorite.

Lots of stud players return for the Buckeyes and several very good portal pickups. But will Will Howard be a step up from McCord last season at QB? Dillon Gabriel was the B12 QB of the year in 2023. Howard finished behind Gabriel and if he had stayed at K State, Howard was not a lock to be the Wildcats starter at QB in 2024.

Harmon and Caldwell in the middle of the DL could go a long way to frustrate the Ohio State run game. The Buckeyes OL in 2023 was not all that. Will it improve in 2024? I believe the Ducks D that was solid in 2023 will be improved in 2024.

Ducks fans, it will be tempting to score B1G $ in the ticket aftermarket, but please show up for the game and do not sell your tickets. Puddles will need all hands on deck.

If Oregon beats Ohio State, and continues to win...then the OSU/Michigan game becomes less relevant.

By contrast, the battle of the Os at Autzen will have a huge TV audience I believe, due to how curious everyone will be.  How good is Oregon?  That is the question they will tune in for...

Anything 7 or less is a coin flip by the odds makers. I'll take Oregon on those odds right now.

It will be interesting to see where they are a week out from the game that's for sure.
