With 'Bama at Number 1, more pressure on DeBoer

Alabama and new coach Kalen DeBoer finish the 2024 recruiting cycle No. 1 in the Comprehensive Team Rankings.

Same with Mari at 6.

Our Famous FishDuck Friend, Jon Joseph posted this in another thread, and pointed out how Oregon was tied for No. 1 with three teams above the Ducks based on the average per player at 3.79 each.  This tied Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State although the Ducks had fewer overall recruits. This is recruiting in pretty elite company!

Note here in the Transfer Rankings, that Dillon Gabriel was listed as a 4-Star, and isn't that understated?  How can you NOT be a 5-Star when you have his stats, proven success and is a major Heisman Trophy Candidate?

They had Safety Brandon Johnson from Duke as a 3-Star, and he was a two-time All-ACC player, and who many thought was the best athlete on their team.  Not even a 4-Star?

Finally they had Atticus Sappington the transfer kicker from Oregon State as a 2-Star? I understand that kickers are always downgraded, but this guy only missed ONE Field Goal last year for nearly a 93% FG percentage?

My bottom line is that Oregon may actually have been No. 1 in the Comprehensive standings when you take these under-grades into account.  And Lanning did this in his SECOND year is all?

Happy Days are Coming!

The stupid part about portal ranking is they really weigh how many years you have left. Since Dillon only has one year left he was rated lower than Dante Moore.

I'm just going to throw this in here...

FISHDUCK.COM

Dan Lanning and company are the best recruiters in the country right now. Now, anyone who wants to go...

A few notes that I'd like to add.

1. Alabama's high school class was all Saban. The portal was DeBoer who pulled quite a few UW players to Bama. So far DeBoer is putting together a solid class in 2025 from prep recruits but we'll see how long he can ride Saban's coattails.

2. Georgia is Georgia and is able to live off prep recruiting. Not at all a surprise they're top ranked.

3. Ohio State is certainly a recruiting power but their use of the portal this cycle feels maybe a bit more desperate than in previous years. It feels like Day is going for broke here in a do or die season.

4. In order for Lanning to be successful at Oregon he MUST do both prep and portal well. Without a massive amount of talent in Oregon's backyard Lanning will always need the portal to fill in gaps that he can't fill in any given cycle. Geography isn't as much of a detriment as it used to be but is still a significant factor in recruiting.
