Oregon’s “Sniffer” Powers Duck Running Game

Recommended Posts

Yes, the “Sniffer” is a thing in college football. While we look at who that player is in the Oregon offense, it is also important to recognize the innovations we are seeing from Offensive Coordinator Will Stein. I had to take some time away from my fun at The Division 2 to break down this new addition to Oregon’s rushing ...

I loved the ISO when I coached.  I hadn't realized this was happening without a fullback.  Thanks for studying the video and educating this old Duck!

Will Stein is a genius!

One thing for certain, this article didn't stink.

Thanks again Charles for another terrific article that explains the game within the game.

Charles,

The first thing I in thought about was the sequential plays.  I can spot three that might work, but I'm just a hack.

I certainly hope Stein is working those sequential plays in practice, and keeps them under wraps until Ohio State comes to town.

We'll have to see.  The Buckeye LBs are pretty darn good in pass coverage, so anything to keep the off balance would disrupt their very effective pass defense.

Great article. You observed something I didn't catch.  Not even sure those plays were part of of the first two games

Did you catch anything else from last week?

Of course!  But it is a LONG SEASON, and you gotta keep some stuff in your back-pocket to refer to later.  For like next Friday....

Because I have a backlink order to fill...I will be writing a short article for Saturday with some other tidbits.

You know, a title about how the TEs at Oregon block the ISO play--would have been boring as hell.  But throw the word "Sniffer" into the title, and everyone is wondering what a "Sniffer" has to do with Oregon football.

Fun stuff!

As always, great analysis. Thank you.

I remember watching in real time the second play you highlight and wishing James had cut to the right after getting to the second level.  Watching it again, I feel even more certain that if James had done so, it would have been a huge gain (not that the yards he got weren't nice).
