More Auto Bids for the Two Super-Conferences to Playoffs: Move to 16 Teams?

Recommended Posts

I like the idea of automatic bids to playoffs for four B1G teams, and if that pushes the Playoff to 16 teams....good!

This article below was in another thread, but I wanted YOUR feedback; agree with it?

The Big Ten and SEC could come together on a scheduling partnership, according to ESPN's Heather Dinich.

Sounds like another money grab by the networks and the top 2 power conferences to me.

Might as well go to a set number of teams and conferences with a set number of divisions and the heck with everyone else. Maybe a draft to even out the competition. Throw in free agency and a union since a lot of players bargain with an agent already.

Add a Nil cap and a minimum for all scholarship players and trim the number of players. Coaches and players both sit for a year if they leave a school unless they are fired or players turned away which happens quite frequently.

If we are going pro let’s go all the way.

I know this could never happen because of our legal system but what the h—-.

Just trying for a little humor here. lol

Perhaps this should extend to the Playoffs?  Big-12 and ACC get two auto-bids each, and with a 16 team Playoff...there is room for four more teams.

I know this may be premature at this juncture, but shouldn't it just be as simple as the top 12 ranked teams playing, as the long-term goal?   If G5 teams can't crack the top 12, they can have their own playoff.   Seeing more of OBD vs Liberty doesn't do anyone any good.

I don't like the auto bids, but it is likely B1G TEN and SEC get 4 every year anyway.  Why force the issue?  I know it would be hurting the Ducks, but having the B1G and SEC be the haves and everybody else be the have nots, will eventually hurt the B1G and SEC.  Right now, we sort of have a national champion with the playoffs.  Money hasn't separated the B1G and SEC from ACC and Big 12 yet.

In a couple of years when the money really starts to show, it will be the B1G and SEC teams winning titles.  I know not much different than it is now, but it still seems like the ACC and Big 12 have a chance.  When over half the country doesn't feel invested in college football, the TV viewership will fall and then the money will fall.

I personally would have only 3 full money distributions to conferences, then split the remaining extra bid money between the other conferences.  Give the ACC, Big 12 and the G6 a little extra money to give them a glimmer of hope.  We all know it is false hope, but hope all the same to keep the TV numbers high.
