Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted October 22 From an article last week on 247: "Jahlil Florence is also a candidate to potentially use this season as a redshirt, but still play. That would mean getting Florence on the field in November for four games and whatever comes after that. Remember, players can redshirt, play in four regular season games, and then be available for playoffs or conference title games. Theoretically, Florence could end up playing in nine games for Oregon and still redshirt." Pretty wild! 2 Mr. FishDuck
Dave23 No. 2 Share Posted October 22 Can't wait for him to come back and play opposite Muhammad. Reed has gotten a lot better this year but he's a twitch slower that Florence at full health. I'm so confused on how long a players can stick around nowadays but I would love to have Florence for as long as possible.
David Marsh No. 3 Share Posted October 22 The post season games not being a redshirt I feel is pretty important for two reasons. 1. The transfer portal can deplete rosters before bowl games and some teams need those players to play to stand a chance. 2. Injuries, similar but different to the transfer portal. Rosters are depleted and especially with longer seasons now that being able to fall back on players who were supposed to redshirt is more important than ever. Just think... If this rule were ineffect the Ducks probably win the cursed 2015's seasons Alamo Bowl when we lost our starting QB and Center. Poor Doug Brenner went in as center and too many fans blame him and we wasn't a good center but the alternative was burning a red shirt on Jake Hansen for one half of a bowl game. Nine games feels a bit extreme to be honest... But that only applies to two teams total. And the reality is playoff teams will be seeing a great many of their best players, redshirt or not, leave for the NFL draft as quickly as they can. Haywarduck Moderator No. 4 Share Posted October 22 And the next wild roster change will be the shift from 85 scholarships to 105 next season. That is going to mess with the whole walk-on program and give the programs with lots of $ a big advantage. The wild, wild state of college football is only going to get crazier, but still dam fun to watch!

That still needs to be ensured as a part of the scholarship total because specialists deserve scholarships too!
