30Duck No. 2 Share Posted Wednesday at 02:23 PM Big shout out's to Ahmad Rashad, Bobby Moore when he came to Oregon, from Tacoma, and Jonathan Stewart, from Ft. Lewis. On the other side is Budda Baker from Bellview, who was all in at Oregon, until the last minute, he turned purple. It's still fun watching him as a NFL player at Arizona intercept a pass, but be caught from behind, about 50 yards later by Seahawks WR, DK Metcalf. We all know the great job Lanning and the coaches are doing in recruiting. It used to be that the biggest objective in the recruiting was to make sure the Ducks got the best in-state talent. No offense, Justin Herbert was absolutely a great get. But the priorities have shifted for the Ducks. And no offense to this young man, he might turn out to be another "Scooby" at Arizona. But the priorities have shifted for the Ducks. Justin Herbert was certainly an under the radar talent and that was a gem the Helfrich staff prioritized. I would like to think that a massive talent that good within the state would also be targeted by Lanning. They're rather rare within the state but they do pop up from time to time. The other big change that even started under Cristobal is changing the way Oregon recruits within the state. Players like Charlie Pickard would have absolutely been a scholarship player to past staffs but for Lanning he's a walk on. Ryan Walk was a walk on from Sheldon High School before earning himself a starting spot and a scholarship. Lanning is still going after plenty of quality talent within Oregon but much of that talent is being brought in as walk-ons rather than scholarships. That's a huge change in how the state is recruited. Meanwhile Lanning has finally cracked into the State of Washington. The article link below I wrote in 2021, the last Cristobal year, this was before Lanning landed Josh Connerly a huge recruit out of Washington. Before that the Ducks couldn't break into the State. Haywarduck Moderator No. 6 Share Posted Thursday at 05:00 PM Great ponder point, and Utah seems like another program Oregon pays attention to with recruiting. KW has the same knack as Brooks and Bellotti, finding hidden gems others don't notice. It is always nice when Oregon returns to its roots and pulls in an under appreciated gem. The method of watching what other do isn't a bad way. I do enjoy stealing players the dawgs covet. I especially like seeing 3* players develop.
