Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted Wednesday at 04:27 PM Imagine my surprise that the OBD member who has lobbied for an Oregon game with Alabama in the regular season shows up in John Canzano's mailbag on Monday? Yet the marketplace may have moved toward what our friend wants. (The answer is from Canzano below) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: How soon do you expect the Big Ten + SEC scheduling alliance to happen, and how will it affect Oregon? The Ducks have no future games scheduled against SEC foes. — @Thomallister291 A: The Big Ten and SEC schools know they’ll begin sharing at least $20 million a year with players as soon as the 2025 season. They need to find new revenue and are turning toward each other and a possible scheduling partnership that could generate additional media rights value. There’s a lot to be sorted out, including how the games would be paired, how the money would be divided, and how soon it would start. The SEC plays eight conference games, and the Big Ten plays nine. If there’s enough money in it, the Big Ten could drop a conference game to make it happen. Or maybe they ask schools that want to participate to buy out a non-conference game. There’s a lot up in the air. I suspect the potential scheduling alliance is partly why the SEC’s Greg Sankey and Big Ten’s Tony Petitti are into strength of schedule being valued this season by the College Football Playoff selection committee. They don’t want their best schools scared to play tough games. Ducks’ Athletic Director Rob Mullens wrote a letter last week to fans. In it, the AD noted that UO athletics “will need to make strategic decisions to ensure that we continue providing the resources necessary to compete at the highest levels of college athletics with a significant new expense.” Oregon made $4.5 million to play Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Dan Lanning’s first season. I’d expect the Ducks to be all over this. 1 Mr. FishDuck
