Where will Oregon's Undefeated Basketball Team be Ranked? No.10 by the Coaches, No.12 in AP.

Recommended Posts

Probably not No.1, yet.

On the surface when looking at Oregon’s resume compared to the rest of the country, they should be ranked in the top ten. The only teams that are also undefeated with the quality of wins that Oregon has are teams like No. 4 Auburn, No. 1 Kansas, No. 8 Kentucky, No. 7 Tennessee, and No. 10 Marquette.

However, with rankings, there are perceptions of teams given before the season starts and Oregon was not thought to be a top-25 team. Even after their 5-0 start, they were still unranked. They showed the country that they are without a doubt a top-25 team after beating Alabama and winning the Players Era Festival.

Oregon will likely be ranked in the No. 12 to No. 17 range when Monday’s rankings come out.

Hell!  Give us #13!  Let's live "dangerously!"

Seriously though.  This BBteam has all the markings of an Altman tournament team.  A whole lot of basketball to play yet, starting with familiar "conference foes" this week, but there appears to be more "team" in this team.

Actually excited to see how this teams chemistry, solidifies, over the next 6-8 weeks.  Could be another "rude awakening" for the B1G regarding the level of sporting competition brought into the league this year.

Agreed. This could just be an Altman team doing what his teams always do. Get better at the end of the season, but no reason it can't be great at the start.

Looking like a late February Altman team in late November is very dangerous. Whatever the rank, I'll enjoy the steady climb like the football team had this year.

I don't know if they have ever been ranked so early in the season. Unlike football, being ranked generally just puts a target on your back. There are many good teams that aren't ranked. I would think they would be ranked around #15. They are going to be fun to watch. They still to need to improve their play, especially three point shooting but defense will keep them in games. I am curious about USC. Last year they had a bunch of Prima Donas and played poorly. I wonder how many left or if they learned from their loses.

I think the 3 point shooting situation will improve, they didn't just fire them up early against Alabama, who, came back because a guy who had missed all his 3 point attempts before the game against the Ducks all of a sudden couldn't miss. For some reason guarding the 3 has always been a deficiency in Altman's D.

OI agree about the Prima Donna sitch for USC, who the Ducks open against @ USC Wednesday night, then host UCLA Sunday afternoon.

Looking back on the game, we got a bit lucky that Mark Sears who is a great scoring guard had an awful shooting night, I think he went something like 1-11 from three.  Not saying we weren't deserving, just that we survived a bad shooting night by Bama who is typically a very good shooting team.

Our average will go up, but we need to get some guys going, Barthelemey is the only guy who seems to be getting off to a good start shooting the 3.  Really need Shelstad to start being more consistent with his shot.

Agree with everything. Alabama went cold at a great time for the Ducks, as the season goes it happens. Shelstad has had some clutch time shots so far, but I agree that he has a lot of room to get better, with accuracy and shot selection. We aren't really getting any, "take it to the rim" from the guards.
