ESPN Calls Oregon Ducks 'Least Interesting' Team After 12-0 Season?

Recommended Posts

šŸ¤” Hmm,

In a recent write-up recapping the games of week 14, ESPN claimed the No. 1 Oregon Ducks are phoning it in when it comes to their offensive performance since their Ohio State win.

A recent declaration in an ESPN article is the latest take that has Oregon Ducks fans grabbing their pitchforks, not planting them in...

I wouldn't say phoning it in.

But taking care of business and winning in a year full of extreme drama and chaos is kinda boring.

Hey look everyone... Oregon won again. They did it the same way they did last week with a solid performance from DG and James ran from around 100 yards. The defense kept the opponent's score low.

It's called consistency. It's not exciting but it wins games.

ā€œThe Ducks have basically been the work-from-home guy who was told he had to start going into the office again,ā€ Hale wrote. ā€œThey show up, swipe their badge, grab a coffee, say hello to Denise in accounts receivable, Dillon Gabriel throws a couple touchdowns, then they're home in time for ā€˜The View.ā€™ā€

There is always some clickbait wag that throws this garbage against a wall to see if it will stick. It gets us fans riled up a bit but is meaningless background noise to the team.

"Who cares, right?" Lanning said. "It didnā€™t matter before. It doesnā€™t matter now. I remember early in the season when everybody was telling us how crappy we were after our first two games. We donā€™t care what anybody else thinks."

And who the he!! watches "The View" anyway?

I have found David Haleā€™s (ESPN) ā€˜Saturday summaryā€™ articles to be an enjoyable reads this season (his takes in Mario are especially enjoyable). However, there are two ways to read his comments on OBD.

First, they can be construed as maligning, worthy of tar and feathers. My take is slightly different.

This yearā€™s team doesnā€™t have the flash or novelty of the 2010-era Chip-innovated teams. Thatā€™s what most of the press has expected from us. That innovation is what brought us to prominence, and helped make us most kidsā€™ second favorite team - the team with the cool and athletic appeal.

Instead, the 2024 brand of Ducks gets down to business - the business of winning grind-it-out, in-the-trenches warfare that the tOSUs, Alabamaā€™s, and Michiganā€™s of the world have fought for years. The adage ā€œDefense wins championshipsā€ applied to them in the past, and it applies to OBD now. And letā€™s face it - defense isnā€™t flashy. Sure, thereā€™s and occasional WOW moment, but mostly it just ā€˜punches the clock and get it doneā€™.

We shouldnā€™t be looking at Haleā€™s comments as an insult, but rather as the highest compliment: We have arrived and are eating at the adultā€™s table.

I agree. Alabama has been interesting this season. We discussed it here weeks ago, Oregon isn't getting talked about! That's great. "Oregon won again. Still unanimous No.1. Moving on" No chaos, except manufactured clickbait about Lanning leaving. Hopefully OBD stay boring for a long time.
