Dan Lanning Makes Final Decision on Oregon Amid NFL Rumors - Athlon Sports

Quote

"I still wake up and pinch myself that I get to be the head coach here," Lanning said, reflecting on his time in Eugene. "It's certainly exceeded my expectations. [Coaching in the NFL] used to be a goal of mine, it certainly did. At this point, everybody can realize that I'm not going anywhere... This will be the place I'm coaching for a long, long time."

I’m still weary from hearing the term “unfinished business”. That’s what Chip said when he turned down the NFL about two weeks before he changed his mind and took the Eagles job.

By now Lanning has to be weary of answering the NFL question.

I like this quote a lot more: "This will be the place I'm coaching for a long, long time."

Just don’t see the NFL at all in this stage of his career.

Until Eugene gets an NFL franchise or his kids finish high school, he's ours.

Chip’s exit to the NFL was aided by the Willy Lyles investigation .  Remember that?  Chip was potentially due to be severely sanctioned.  Leaving was the best option for him and Oregon.

water under the bridge now but Chip’s options were severely limited.

Speaking of slick william he now has a job with the  Ravins holding Derick Henry’s helmet for him, I think that job is safe. My gosh my 6 year old grandson could do that.

The more OBD wins under his leadership the more the rumors will pop up. Comes with the territory.

The roster management in the NFL is easier but would Dan's style work in the pro ranks?

He's blessed. He's exactly where he is supposed to be and he knows and appreciates this.

Willy Lyles and Willy Taggart are two distinctly different things with regard to Oregon football.

One got Oregon in big trouble with the NCAA over recruiting violations which were serious.  Chip’s fingerprints were all over the mess along with another former assistant coach.

But, back to our regularly scheduled programming and Rose bowl focus.

I would not be at all surprised if Coach Sabin hds a heart to heart with Dan about the harsh reality of coaching in the NFL vs college. Not only is the grass not always greener, if you are lucky enough to be at a university that has your back, and provides you with the resources to succeed, the opportunity to build an effective and successful organization far exceeds the momentary ‘high’ of getting a HC position in the NFL.
