USC Beats Texas A&M 35-31

Recommended Posts

The 11th ranked team in the B1G (6-6 going into the game) beat the 6th ranked team in the SEC. (8-4) What is going to be the SEC homers excuse this time?

Yikes. And A&M was a contender for the SEC title until very late in the season…

So far, the SEC is 3-3 including CFP games and have at least 8 games left, including B1G-SEC, Missouri-Iowa, So.Carolina- Illinois & Alabama-Michigan. B1G is 3-2 so far, have at least 9 left, including the 3 against the SEC.

The B1G is 3-2 in bowl games, as of today, with victories by Ohio State, Penn State and USC, and loses by Indiana and Rutgers.

Rutgers making a bowl game at 6-6 is proof that there are too many bowl games.

Also, how does the 12th ranked B1G team (USC) end up matched up against the 6th ranked team in the SEC?

The elephant in the room  Image on this site is that the SEC just wasn't all that this season. It's hard for Finebaum

and Sankey and ESPN to accept. But everybody saw what osu2 did to Tennessee, with Oklahoma's slaughter of Alabama still fresh in our minds. Pete Carroll saw the end coming at USC and got out of there. Saban saw what NIL and the transfer portal meant for Alabama's dominance. USC hasn't recovered, and Alabama is off to a bad start with DeBoer.

Maybe USC should have joined the SEC. They would have enjoyed more success!

They could be one of the 3-loss SEC teams complaining that they should have been included in the playoffs. Everyone out West knows how much USC loves their “whine”!

There's only so much you should make of the, "this team beat that team so" argument, but Navy, after beating Army, just beat Oklahoma, the team that took all of the air out of Alabama's balloon, 24-3. Tell us again why you should have been in the CFP, Alabama.

Terrific and fun comments.

If I remember (always suspect) correctly, the B1G and the SEC are now 3-3 on the season.

2 wins by the Trojans, a win by Ohio State, and losses by Michigan, Wisconsin, and UCLA.

The B1G teams are the underdog in the remaining bowl games. I am interested in watching No. 20. 9-3 Illinois versus No. 15. 9-3 South Carolina. Two of Illinois's Ls came on the road at No. 1 OREGON and No. 4 Penn State and the home loss to Minnesota was a more competitive game than the beat down of the Gamecocks by Ole Miss in Columbia.

What is the future of bowl games? Difficult to tell. With the current bowl tie-ins the number of teams each of the Power 2 have in the PO will affect the match-ups down the line. I believe the SEC is deeper than the B1G, but it will be closer if USC (🤮) and UWho (🦨) get their Sierra (💩) together.

Ole Miss and SC mutually canceled the H+H series that was scheduled to begin in 2025. Texas opens next season at Ohio State. Michigan plays at Oklahoma. Wisconsin plays at Bama.

I don't see the scheduling agreement between the Power 2 happening before the 2030s at the earliest. For this to happen I expect the Power 2 would have to have at least three teams each guaranteed a spot in the PO.

Greg Sankey responded to the idea that SEC and Big Ten teams are engaged in future scheduling opportunities.

On the season, with SC finishing 7-6, Coach Riley comes in at @$1.4 Million a win. Which is nice. 😁

Could Navy's season have finished any better? WOW!

Oklahoma better hope that the OC and QB coming to Norman from Wazzu (hats off to the Cougs for putting up a fight against Syracuse in the Holiday Bowl) make a difference. But for a change in venues, OK has the same brutal SEC schedule in 2025 that it played in 2024 while Texas again has it easy.

Instead of beefing about the PO, perhaps the SEC should look at the SOS variances with its in-conference scheduling. This could be fixed before next season.
