30Duck Moderator No. 1 Share Posted Tuesday at 12:32 AM The last time the Ducks went to the Final Four was 2016-17. Right now, I'd give that team the edge, but this year's team hasn't reached their ceiling yet. DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 2 Share Posted Tuesday at 01:39 AM It’s highly likely that they won’t make it to the Final Four of the B1G Tournament. Sixteen of the eighteen teams have double digit wins and the other two are 8-8. This is one of the toughest conferences in CBB.
spartan2785 No. 3 Share Posted Tuesday at 01:59 AM (edited) Final Four team was a lot better I think. If you go position by position Prichard (freshman) vs. Shelstad: Edge: Shelstad+ Dorsey vs. Bamba: Edge: Dorsey Brooks vs. Tracey: Edge: Brooks++ Boucher vs. Angel: Edge: Boucher+ Bell vs. Bittle: Edge: Even, this is the one that is hardest, Bell was such a force defensively, but Bittle has a much better offensive game Ennis vs. Barthelemey: Edge: Even, Key is a microwave, but Ennis was the ultimate glue guy Benson vs. Cook: Edge: I'll give it to Cook barely, I think he does more as the 7 man, obviously different positions. After that is does go in favor of the current team in terms of depth. I'll take that final four team all day though, more killers in the team, Boucher and Bell together was such a force defensively. Sandy Rocks No. 6 Share Posted Tuesday at 02:53 AM This team is really good but I have to admit when you compare this team to the final four team, at this point in the schedule they would be lacking. That team as well the team with the two Lukes had three consistent shooters. This team is deep but they really need another scorer to emerge. It could be Batholemy if he played like he did last year before he got hurt. It could be Bamba if he played like he did in the Tournament in Las Vegas. Evans could emerge.or even Tracy. Jordon Bell was a force to behold and he could block like nobody's business but Bittle is really good. Bell was never the center though, Bouchet was the center. If I compared Bittle to Bouchet and Bittle wins hands down. We aren't even half way through this season, a lot can happen. The great thing about the final four team was that they had played together for two years, some for three. This team is still feeling it way. They play great defense which is keeping them in games. I am not sure how much better they can be. We will have to wait and see but I am sure enjoying watching them.
Sandy Rocks No. 7 Share Posted Tuesday at 03:09 AM I just remembered something about Dorsey that I had forgotten. He actually played a lot like Bamba during the regular season. Very inconsistent. When the team got to the PAC-12 tournament that year, he just took off and played well from that time on. Hopefully Bamba is similar, and will crank it up when the pressures on. Hopefully this game with Purdue will answer some questions.

If it plays out the way Altman's teams usually do; get better & better and peak in Feb and March, starting at 15-2, Final 4 is very possible. The exhilarating and at the same time, frustrating is how much better this team can be. Shelstad is bringing it every game now, Bittle is consistent. But, Angel, Bamba, are at around 40% of what we've seen them capable of doing. Key is a spark, don't want to lose that from him. The defense is good, but could get even better, which is what usually happens with Altman's teams improving. The Ducks are very good in close games, only the UCLA game got away from them. But the Penn State game should not have come down to the wire.
GeotechDuck No. 9 Share Posted Tuesday at 12:13 PM As several people pointed out above, the guard play of this team is currently below the level of the 2017 team with Dorsey, Pritchard, Ennis, and Benson. Shelstad is on fire right now and Key is playing very well. Both are defending a little better too right now, which is helping. Tracy is playing well too and is the guy that holds it together. That being said, Bamba and Moss need to turn the corner soon if we have any chance of making that run. Having your starting SG shoot 30% in games, while putting up 8-12 shots is not going to work come March, IMO.

I used to always scoff when a B1G team would get a nice seed in "March Madness" despite a losing conference record. It makes sense now. One good thing about the B1G Conference Tournament is that none of the games will be played at MKA. Oregon & Michigan State are the only B1G teams to have not lost a neutral site or road game this season.

The good thing is if Oregon finishes in the top half of the conference they will probably still make the NCAA tournament.
