GatOrlando No. 1 Share Posted yesterday at 12:41 AM Bill Belichick is returning to coaching after a one year broadcasting gig. Surprisingly enough it isn't to try and resurrect the Jets, Bears, Browns, Titans or Jaguars. It's at an ACC basketball school. While he has yet to ink his deal officially, he has brought in several assistant coaches already that are reportedly only there to coach. UNC has a GM now and the model looks to have talent scouts recruit players instead of assistant head coaches. Think of it like the NFL draft. Many NFL coaches would never come to CFB because they don't want to do anything but coach. Apparently this is going to be the model UNC is going with. I can see the benefits of streamlining operations like this but I also see the pitfalls. Most young position coaches want to get their guys, many feel like that puts them at an advantage instead of being given guys by scouts. Herman Edwards tried to bring an NFL approach years ago to ASU but all it resulted in was major recruiting violations and many losses. But that was before NIL. Perhaps the game is changing and we'll see a more pro like model. Either way it's going to be interesting to see how Belichick does. Nick Saban failed in the NFL so just because you're the greatest of all time at one level doesn't mean you'll do it at another.
30Duck Moderator No. 2 Share Posted yesterday at 12:49 AM I was hoping for a UNC-The U match-up, but that might have to wait until the CCG. Belichick>Cristobal.
GatOrlando Author No. 3 Share Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM UNC has all the resources to make the leap. It'll be interesting to see if Miami, UNC, SMU, FSU or Clemson can compete yearly against top members of the B1G or SEC. The ACC should put pressure on Notre Dame to join. That's the only way I see them holding onto their top programs. If it drives them to the B1G so be it.
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 4 Share Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM From what I've seen of interviews with players being recruited over the years....the most important person to them is their position coach. A "scout" cannot have the same relationship, or same connection. But what do I know? 1 Mr. FishDuck
GatOrlando Author No. 5 Share Posted yesterday at 02:37 AM What drew my attention was the mention of the word GM. Is it any different than an AD or is it specifically centered on football operations?
GatOrlando Author No. 6 Share Posted yesterday at 02:43 AM (edited) Well it is quite different actually. The question going forward is does this mean other sports like basketball or women's volleyball are going to get GMs as well? It's through the school and I can see people asking why only the football program gets an extra position and logically I would respond that it's the moneymaking program that funds lacrosse and bowling. But logistics aren't considered in these things. "Michael Lombardi, who serves as GM of North Carolina football, has responded to a report from CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones revealing that Bill Belichick and the university do not have a fully executed and signed contract. His plea? Stop making an issue because the Tar Heels coach is currently hitting the recruiting trail with ferocity and the NFL is not an option" Access to this page has been denied WWW.KXAN.COM px-captcha Edited yesterday at 02:46 AM by GatOrlando

OregonDucks No. 8 Share Posted yesterday at 02:06 PM (edited) Belichick has only won with Tom Brady as his QB. Brady left NE and won a championship with TB. He’s a good coach but was he or Tom Brady more responsible for NE’s success? Unfortunately for Belichick, Tom Brady is out of college eligibility and will not be suiting up for UNC. GatOrlando Author No. 9 Share Posted yesterday at 02:37 PM I think Brady was responsible for those last three championships. But Belichick was more responsible for the first three, definitely the upset of the greatest show on turf.
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 10 Share Posted yesterday at 04:29 PM Friend Gat. How About: NO! He's Herm Edwards without the smile and the coach whose record says what he is without Tommy Boy. UNC got away with widespread cheating. The Tar Heels will not get away with hiring a Mack Brown clone at $10M per year. But the $$$ should keep Bill's granddau, er, girlfriend from having tar between her toes.
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 11 Share Posted yesterday at 04:37 PM I ain't Lion. How did Detroit look after a bye and Playing at Home instead of in Pasadena? Ryan Day and Chip got the all-time break. An all-time chance at redemption. Until this season, 2-loss Ohio State is not in the BCS or the 4-team Playoff field and Michigan is the final game of the season. The Lions defense hasn't been able to stop a sneeze all year. Props to Washington. I feel a little bad for Lions fans though. But I'm an Eagles fan and now we get to host the NFC championship. The Commanders have won both meetings vs the Eagles this far so I'm hoping Philly does what many teams that have lost to an opponent already has done. I agree with you on the later part Jon. I'll still say the first three titles were due to Bill, especially the first against the greatest show on turf. He did to St. Louis what the Giants would do to him six years later. Tom Brady proved to be the greatest QB when he led a franchise that hadn't been to the playoffs since 2007 to a Super bowl in year one. Belichick subsequently only reached one playoff after Tom left. I think Bill can't get that out of his head. It's crazy but it's a motivation to win something without Tom as his QB.

Washington is playing their best ball but I don't see Hurts throwing three interceptions. Third time is the charm hopefully.

Another reason, I really wouldn't mind if ND wins. Osu2 would go from completely dismissing losing to Oregon, losing to Michigan and now to Notre Dame? The chance at redemption would be now a season with 3 losses.
