Rumors Swirling About Oregon, and Ohio State WR Carnell Tate...

Recommended Posts

I forgot that the teams in the 'Natty have a five day portal window, and the rumor is that Tate, is being approached by Texas and Oregon to enter the portal. Who knows what is true, but there is more smoke to add to this fire...

His girlfriend is a soccer player at OregonHmmmm.

Oregon has lost SO MANY recruits to "the girlfriend" in the past....could it go in our favor this time? (Nyck Harbor to South Carolina comes to mind for example)

And he is 6'3"....

This could make quite an incredible WR room for Dante Moore...

Would love to have him, he's a really good player, at least at the level of Holden.   Ekbuka and Smith got so many looks that Tate probably was under utilized for his talent level.  Him and Stewart would be a good starting point.  Kasper and Lowe will probably be decent.  I don't really have a lot of hope in Dickey, I know it's only been his second year, just a feeling I have.

When it comes to Dakorian Moore, I'm not really holding my breath, I know he seems like he's going to be a really really impressive freshman, but we haven't had very good luck with these 5 star receivers coming in and being a game-breaker from the start.  Just basically not trying to get my hopes up.

Anyone else bothered by the instant insinuation that OBD and other schools have to be tampering and offering massive NIL deals to lure Tate and others into the portal?

No, it's just the reality of college football now.  You'll always see this with Oregon since you have the Nike link, and it's such a long distance for most recruits.  I see just as many people claim this for those going to tOSU or Ole Miss or any other school.

It's also probably true in a lot of cases, players want to get paid, it's a business to a lot of players (just look at the cases of Jaden Rashada, the UNLV QB, many others).  It was a business in some ways even before players started getting paid due to promises of playing time, exposure to scouts, under the table dealings.

The instant insinuation is that $$$ is responsible for every success Oregon has.

Tampering is happening everywhere.

The reality is that it could be someone on the NIL side of things who is no official affiliation with the program. There is no way to police any of it in the current environment. I am 100% certain that Lanning isn't calling players from other teams because that would be a traceable violation.

We're the B1G bogeyman this year... we're going to come up as the bad guys even if we didn't win it all.

Apparently the offer was for a million. Jeremiah Smith apparently had an offer of 4.5 million. Apparently Oregon or Texas are going to be used to get guys bigger deals in college now. If this is how it's going to be they might as well let these guys go pro. Smith certainly would be a top five pick. The NBA has the one and dones. The transfer portal is out of control, I mean look at the Xavier Lucas court case and tell me it isn't.

One way to clean it up would be to let the guys go to the NFL right away. If a guy wants to go to a school and get a bag he should committ to at least two years. Any and all tampering should be dealt with severely and head coaches should have to honor their contracts for at least two years as well because it's not fair to hold teenagers to a standard that grown men don't have to reach.

Now the school or NIL should be able to renegotiate with a player/coach if they outperform their deal in year one. But right now this is pure madness. I can see why Saban retired.

I know, it's frustrating, especially when in reality we only rank 19th in NIL spending at $10.5 million compared to over $20m for tOSU and others.

If we want to spend even in the ballpark of those schools, we have loads of budget room to lure players like this.

I’ve seen the same numbers (don’t remember where), but the same article that published these numbers also specifically said no one believes the Oregon number to be accurate.

Here is what I was looking at (after seeing these same numbers reported elsewhere):

I can't vouch for their accuracy. If anyone has seen a different ranking or estimate I'd be interested in seeing it.
