Oregon Breaks Indiana, 73-64

Recommended Posts

The Ducks are 11-2 on Senior Day under Altman, they lost the first one, but won the second, 94-48 over Utah and would win the next 9, until a buzzer beater by USC beat the Ducks, 70-69, in 2022, The Ducks won last season, and this one is as crucial as ever. Oregon is 0-3 against Indiana, first time at Indiana in 1966, then two times in the Far West Classic, in '73 & '78.

It’s March, and Oregon is playing its best basketball. That’s a statement that can be made pretty much annually under head...

GO YOU MIGHTY DUCKS! Make these Hoosiers look like Hosers, Eh.

The Athletic's list of Conferences expecting multi-bids to the Tourney.

SEC - 13 (and Sankey wants to expand the field? 🤪), B1G - 11, B12 - 8, ACC - 3 (the war on tobacco appears to have worked its way across Tobacco Road. 🤓), Big East - 4, Mountain West - 3, West Coast - 2.

No Pac-2 team in sight; however, the Pac-Purloiners will be paid by OBD and UCLA. 🦨

35-32 Ducks at half. It felt like there were a couple of times when the Ducks were a stop away from getting some real separation, but, it didn't happen, and Indiana actually took the lead. The Ducks had a chance at a powerplay, with an injured Hoosier on the floor, but they missed.

This is a fun game!

Ducks will win, 73-64, with some great defense, and clutch from multiple players.

First, during the game, Casey Jacobson mentioned that Indiana coach Mike Woodson was on the Hoosiers team that beat Oregon, with Ronnie Lee, in 1978. Sorry Casey, Ronnie wasn't on that team, he was on the '73 team, but Woodson wasn't.

Shelstad with another big time 3, and Bamba has really played well during the 6 game winning streak.

Good game, important game since Indiana was a dangerous team desperate for a win.  Now finish up with a strong game against UW and you will be looking at a possible 4 seed which is important since it would mean Oregon would be closer to home.

Nice turn around they've had.  Altman does it again I guess.  Really does come down to defense and effort.  Might sound simple, but this team isn't an offensive juggernaut, they score a bit, but it will defense that will get them wins.  They don't have the consistent shooting to just win a shootout.

Good game by the ducks. I thought they might not pull it out but this is senior night and they don't lose tight games. Shelstad had an incredible shot, it did seem to break Indiana. If the games comes down to a free throw shooting contest, the opposing team will lose.

I heard that this duck team is the best free throw shooting team in the country. Six wins in a row, they are HOT. It was a fun game to watch.

Bamba had a great game, his defense is really offense. Angel also had some good plays and rebounds. Overall a good game by all.

I meant Bamba's defense is really awesome. He plays so hard. He even got a couple of threes. If he can start hitting like he has in the past, the sky's the limit with this team. I wouldn't bet against them, that's for sure.

Yeah, after the Wiscy game I said I really thought he has completely turned his season around, his shooting hasn't come back, but he plays so damn hard that you have to keep him in the game even if he isn't a threat at all from the outside.  Feels like he is the soul of this team.  Guys have found their role.  You see Evans really finding his niche, even guys like Moss have found a way to help the team even if they aren't a threat on offense, it's cool to see.

Is Bittle going yo get another year of eligibility due to his injuries last year?

Apparently I missed the news last week that the NCAA granted Bittle another year of eligibility. Great! He's not showing up anywhere on the NBA draft boards.

I think that Bittle would benefit from another year. He only played five games last year so the NCAA determined he can come back. I would love to see another year of Shelstad and Bittle. They are so much fun to watch. Mookie also is coming into the game more for defense. He will probably get a lot of playing time next year.

I am getting really excited about this teams chances even Luke Jackson said that if this team can play like they have been with Bittle in the middle, they can beat anyone.

I personally don't think Bittle will be an NBA player, in today's NBA you need to be able to guard out to the perimeter, I just don't think he has the foot speed to keep up.  He would have to become a 40% plus 3 point shooter (which he might be able to do).  He's a classic very good college player who has a long career over in Europe.

In today's NIL world it will be interesting to see if it's to his benefit to just stay another year.  I would like to see him try to become that type of shooter by next year.  That is what I think he'll need to work on along with just improving his pick and roll defense.

The difference right now is defense and rebounding.  What a huge improvement since the 5 game skid.  Tonight they shot 39% from the floor and 24% from three and still won by 9. That translates to solid defense, dominating the glass, and making FTs.  All the little things.

If they can keep that up, they are going to win games in the tourney.

Bamba almost shot 40% tonight.  Almost.   If they could just get him to be consistently at 40%, that might be good enough come tourney time. He is flat out shutting guys down on defense.

This team finds a way to win. That has been their story all season. They are playing like they did at the beginning of the season. They know how to turn it on when it matters. It is going to be interesting to see how they play in the conference tournament.

Well, here's a crazy thought (and I've thought this for a couple of games now).  The Ducks need a loss.  I believe that for the Ducks to make their deepest possible run in the NCAA Tournament they'll need to lose once before it starts.

So, tonight I decided that the best loss they could have before it starts is a loss in the B1G championship game. Of course, I don't want OBD to ever lose. But that reality doesn't exist.

The only other choice would be a loss to the dirty Dawgs this weekend. A B1G tournament championship with a loss to Ewe Dub is palpable, but I don't know if it's preferable.  Tough choice there.

Obviously, the season ends on the highest note with the Ducks playing in the biggest tournament game possible.  Earlier this season, after big wins against Alabama and A&M there was talk about a potential final four appearance. Then after five straight losses there was talk about potentially missing the tournament altogether.

I guess what I'm saying is I don't believe in a 16 or whatever winning streak to end the season.  But I can certainly believe in a six or eight game streak to end the season.

I still think the upside to this team is a sweet sixteen or if they get a favorable matchup an elite eight.  I don't think they have the shooting to win against the best teams.  At some point they'll have to have a game where they are just on fire and I don't know if they have the firepower to match up against some of the teams in the top 12 or so.

Don't get me wrong, I've been impressed that they have been finding ways to win, but at some point they have to be more efficient on offense and not rely on Shelstad shooting some desperation 3 late in the game to win.  Shelstad has been awesome in those spots, but it's playing with fire just expecting him to constantly hitting 28 footers late in the shot clock.

Sounds about right. The winning streak has been great, the Ducks have looked better each game. But the wins haven't been against teams the Ducks will see in the elite 8, the Final Four Ducks team would mop the floor with this team. The Ducks could win the B1G or lose their first game. The ceiling for "March Madness" is a 5, the floor is probably a 7.

You know the ducks have been in the sweet sixteen in years when they were not nearly as good as this team. Don't sell them short. They have all the hallmarks of a team that can make a deep run, experienced players, deep rotation, good defense, the best free throw shooting team in the country and a clutch ice in the veins shooter in Shelstad, not to mention Bittle's rim protection.

This team is playing like they were at the beginning of the season when some were thinking they might win the BIG and get a 2 or 3 seed. I even heard some predict they might make it to the final four. This conference and the travel has been an adjustment for this team.

The only concern for me about Oregon going deep in the playoffs is Bittle’s backup. He doesn’t get many minutes but could be a huge problem versus major competition, especially if Nate’s in foul trouble. He’s appears to be a hardworking teammate, but I can’t see the necessary upside.

Well, I highly doubt he would go to Europe instead of playing at Oregon for another year. His NIL money will be pretty good.
