It didn't start well for the Beavs in their winner takes all game against FSU in the Corvallis Super Regional. The Beavs started a freshman pitcher, he got the first guy out, the next hit a double of the left field wall, the next guy it over the wall. 2-0, Beavs coming to bat.

Beavs scored 7, including back to back to back home runs. FSU put 1 up in the 2nd. In the 3rd, the Beavs scored 6, 4 on a grand slam. So far, the Beavs have a 1 run homer, a 2 run homer, a 3 run homer & the grand slam. Bottom of the 4th, 13-3. Tell me Jameis, could this one go either way?

Please just no stupid chainsaw

Yeah, I'm good with it...

Mr. FishDuck

Seeds to Omaha

3-seed Arkansas

6-seed LSU

8-seed Oregon State

13-seed Coastal Carolina

15-seed UCLA

Louisville (from 1-seed Vanderbilt)

Arizona (from 12-seed Oregon)

Determined on Monday

Duke (from 7-seed Georgia) or Murray State (KY) (from 10-seed Ole Miss)

Don't know much about the others, but Beavis definitely has a shot.   A bunch of teams who will be sitting at home looking at this field say'in "damn, it coulda been us."

I watched more college baseball this year than I have in years and have had a hard time predicting who would beat whom. So I have pretty much decided to root for the underdogs.

As a former pitcher, I have been surprised how nondominant college pitchers are--even when it seems they are throwing serious gas or otherwise have electric "stuff". I've decided it is the aluminum bats that give hitters a real sizable advantage. It is certainly not that way in the pros. When I watch the Giants, I am almost embarrassed for the number of starting position players hanging somewhere around or just north of the Mendoza line.

Having said this, I guess I am too much of a traditionalist to advocate livening up the game by legalizing metal bats. Somehow hearing a hitter say, after hitting a 650 foot HR,

"I really got good metal on that one"  would grate on me. Plus, we would probably have to build much bigger ballparks, I fear, to prevent lazy 420 foot fly ball home runs.

Could not agree more! Part of baseball is the aesthetics. The sound of a solid hit is as good as there is in sports. Imagine this scene in "the Natural" if Roy Hobbs had an aluminum bat!

I think I saw that Murray State eliminated Duke to reach the World Series, thus giving me another underdog to root for.  Plus as I am fond of nothing about Duke (except their academic standards) that outcome was doubly satisfying. So go Racers!

Hopefully not
