WEEK 2 - FIELD FOR 12/8 TEAM PLAYOFF - OREGON GETS SOME HELP! AND PO COMMITTEE NONSENSE!

Recommended Posts

As wonderful as it was to see the Ducks ranked #3 last night, I was pumped up from the moment the '1st reveal' had UTAH at 24. Utah wins at Arizona and the Ducks win at home Saturday night and we have ourselves a top 25 matchup in SLC a week from Saturday!  Utah at 24 is a much needed bump to Oregon's SOS. If any 3L team deserves to be ranked, it is Utah. All 3 of the Utes Ls came on the road. 2 of L's coming at 14. BYU and in double OT at 22. San Diego State.

Give me a break! According to all of the 'experts' in the CFB world, especially the guys and gals working at ESecPN, Bama, Ohio State, Cincinnati and Oregon, all scrapped by last weekend. MALE BOVINE EXCREMENT! Bama and Cincy failed, badly, to cover at home. Ohio State failed, badly, to cover at 3L Nebraska. OREGON on the road vs a 4-4 opponent in a rivalry game played in terrible weather, covered!

I know these interim rankings add money to the Disney/ESPN bank, but do these rankings give anyone comfort regarding the manner in which the PO CT arrives at its Final 4?

This week we see Michigan at 6, Michigan State at 7. Both with identical records and with Michigan State holding the tiebreaker in the B1G E.  Oregon defeated #4 Ohio State in Week 2 and the head to head win still resonates. Michigan State beat Michigan the week prior the 1st PO CT rankings release, but Michigan 'looks like the better team?' SMH.

The CFB conference commissioners and the conference of Notre Dame will gather together once again on December 1, 2021, to discuss PO expansion. There is a great divide between those who favor a 12 team field, all but The Alliance and The Alliance's preference for an 8 team field. The 8 team field would include all P5 champs and a G5 representative, plus 2 at large (AL) teams. And the B1G and the Pac-12 want the Rose Bowl's traditional date and KO time maintained. Looking below at what the proposed 12 team field would be, one wonders why the B1G does not favor a 12 team proposed format? Is B1G commissioner Warren on the same page with the conference AD's?

12 Team Playoff -

1. GEORGIA - SEC vs 9. Notre Dame AL at 8.Oklahoma - B12

2. OREGON - Pac-12 vs. 10. Oklahoma State AL at 7. Michigan State AL

3. OHIO STATE - B1G vs. 11. TX A+M AL at 6. Michigan AL

4. CINCINNATI - AAC vs. 12. Wake Forest - ACC at  5. Alabama AL

BIG - 2 1st round home games for MI and MI ST vs 'warm weather' opponents. Decent shot to have 3 B1G teams in the quarter finals? But this doesn't work for the B1G?

8 Team Playoff -

1. Georgia - SEC vs 8.Wake Forest - ACC

2. Alabama - AL vs 7. Oklahoma - B12

3. Oregon - Pac-12 vs 6. Michigan - AL

4. Ohio State - B1G vs. 5. Cincinnati - G5

BEAT WAZZU! Then on to SLC like a bunch of angry locusts!

LOL! The PO, PO Committee, interim ranking releases, NY6Bowl games, are all ESPN 'products.' Yet, it is ESPN lighting up the PO CT regarding Cincy last week. This week's outrage, Michigan ahead of Michigan State. How can an Oregon team that defeated tOSU in week 2 still be ranked ahead of an obviously better Ohio State team?

What a perfect scam. Control all parts of an enterprise and when you attack the enterprise, you just bring in more suckers to further capitalize the enterprise. Like making money off polls and debating the polls, prior to election day.

Today we had the opportunity of listening to former 'Bama QB, Greg McElroy explain why there was no problem with Alabama failing to cover against LSU, by 22 points, but staying at No. 2, just like they would have if they had beaten LSU by 42 points.

But let that happen to Oregon....and down to No. 9 for you!

And THIS is why I kind of get The Alliance's take on the expanded PO. The Pac-12 needs more PO broadcast partners in the mix. Since the advent of the BCS, brought to you by brilliant SEC Commish Roy Kramer, it's all gone the way of the SEC. And today, CFB media cartel and SEC 'partner' ESPN runs the show. I know it is hard for younger fans to believe, but once upon a time the Pac-12, sans Bama,  had it all over the SEC. Kramer took the game from a regional to national sport and the Pac has reaped the whirlwind. An afterthought after dark.

One way or another from Oregon being left out in 2001, to a 1L USC being often being left out in favor of a lesser teams, like Oklahoma, the Pac-12 has been screwed over. But it was the leaders of the Pac-12, in large measure, who helped to turn the screw. IMO, not expanding and wiping out a P5 competitor  B12  conference is only the latest example of insipid Pac-12 'leadership.' An immediate bump moving into the Central time zone? Probably not. But in the long run?

Good call, Charles. Oregon goes 4-0 here on out and it is likely in the PO? But even a 12-1 Ducks will be hard pressed to get in over an undefeated Oklahoma and an undefeated Cincinnati. Thank goodness that Utah is in the top 25.

I have to LOL at AAC commish, Aresco, whining about Cincy being held to a different standard. The Pac-12 isn't subject to the same? BTW Mr. Aresco, the team that who are pumping up is saying good bye. Why? Because even without OU and TX, Cincy people know the Bearcats have a better PO chance in the restructured B12.

It is so darn frustrating. If GK's end game is one more P5 OOC game versus an Alliance team; well, that's Larry-like.

Personally I don't like the 12 team playoff idea.  It's deliberately slanted towards SEC having more teams in the top 6, thereby giving them a higher likelihood of getting a 1st round pass.  8 or 16 team playoff, where everyone plays the 1st round is best. Football version of March Madness!

Michigan may have gotten the benefit of the officials admitting they took away a TD on a bad call.  Admittedly, if it didn't happen on the last play, the entire game would have been different from that point on and MSU may still have won.

Good point. But if SCOREBOARD doesn't matter what does?
