Why Hasn’t Oregon Ducks Coach Dan Lanning Named Starting Quarterback Yet?

Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning has not officially named a starting quarterback, however Dante Moore has all the tools and support of his teammates. What is Lanning looking for in the quarterback competition and does he have a timeline of when he will announce?

Oregon's leading tackler, linebacker Bryce Boettcher and Moore have developed a strong friendship this offseason through country music and golf. The two are stepping into leadership roles as the Ducks look to defend their Big Ten title.

"He's very authentic to himself and he has a lot of confidence, but he's not arrogant either," Boettcher told Amaranthus. "He's humble as well. And the way he puts touch on his ball when he throws it is amazing. I'm excited for him."

Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq can't help but smile when he talks about Moore.

"Raw talent. Being honest with you, he can make just about any throw there is, and he's capable of just about anything," Sadiq told Amaranthus. "On top of that, he's just a great human, and he has a great ability to connect with the guys."

Thanks, Steven, for the post. As I was attempting to read the attached link, I was in my face assaulted by a Snap Dragon. Where is Saint George when you need him?

This unwanted and unneeded advertisement for a product I have no interest in popped up out of nowhere and disrupted my ability to read the attached article.

One of the first things we were taught as young children was that you do not read over anyone's shoulder. This behavior is rude and unacceptable. My reading enjoyment is now interrupted from left, right, above, below, and center. I understand this deplorable behavior comes with today's internet, but I don't have to like it.

Rant over! I do make certain not to buy any product that interferes with my reading of interesting topics across the net and here on this great Forum. For links to sites where Charles is paid, I am happy to make an exception. But, I have never seen a Forum-friendly back-link order pop up anywhere; if I don't access the link, I don't have to see the link.

The Oregon Ducks lost a majority of their starters along the offensive line from last season. As a result, center Iapani Laloulu has taken the steps to become an outspoken leader in the offensive line room

The Oregon Ducks had one of the best season in program history last year and a large part of their offensive success can be traced back to the talent along the offensive line. Despite all the success from last year, the Ducks will have to replace a majority of their starters along the offensive trenches including 2025 first round draft pick Josh Conerly Jr.

However, the Ducks do have one returning starter in center Iapani Laloulu, who started all 14 games last season and is the most experienced returnee on the Ducks' offense.

Losing Evan Stewart 'tough', but Will Stein confident in offense's ability to move on

12558004.jpg?fit=bounds&width=320&height

Oregon will not have Evan Stewart for at least part of the season, but offensive coordinator Will Stein is confident in the offense's ability to bounce back.

Will Stein applauds Dante Moore's willingness to play within the Oregon offense

Will Stein wants Dante Moore to operate within the Oregon offense, and so far he's been pleased with the young quarterback's ability to do so.

Drew Mehringer: "We've got a very talented room."

Co-Offensive Coordinator Drew Mehringer meets with the media following practice on August 4, 2025.

Chris Hampton: "The competition has been great."

Interesting what coach Hampton is saying "I think we've got all the talent to be a really good secondary. Now we've just got to do it.” "We definitely look the part. We're not as experienced. I think everyone knows that."

"We've just got to do it, and continue to grow each and every day. We're going in the right direction."

"I think we're still going to run our system, at the end of the day. Obviously we have guys who fit the profile of what we want, height, weight and speed. We've done a great job recruiting, I think, everyone in the organization.”

What he is saying, the Ducks secondary will look a lot different this season than last year’s, "taller, stronger, faster defensive backs.”

Here’s hoping the first four games before the Penn St. game will reap dividends.

After those motions were denied by the Circuit Court, according to The Oregonian's James Crepea, Austin got some positive news this past week. Crepea reports that Oregon Chief Justice Meagan Flynn granted a motion to delay Austin’s criminal trial, which will stall things for anywhere from three to 12 months.

This means that Austin will be able to start the season with the Ducks this year, and likely could end up playing throughout the 2025 campaign before all is said and done.

"Lopa has one of the best blends of size and range of any back-end defender in the country, and the Ducks have production voids to fill at safety," ESPN's Billy Tucker writes. "The No. 13 safety in the 2024 ESPN 300 had limited reps last season, but in the Big Ten championship game against Penn State, he was in third-down packages matching up with All-America tight end Tyler Warren. Lopa is 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, but covers ground fast with his long stride. He will come up inside the box and tackles soundly as well. In high school he played both sides of the ball, tallying four interceptions and 16 receiving touchdowns. Lopa will need to develop as the season progresses with his reads and recognition, but we project he will begin to reach his potential this fall."
