Posted 21 hours ago21 hr Administrator No. We have a Preferred Walk-On Quarterback redshirting who could blow-up for us in the future. It is Wilsonville's Mark Wiepert, who was the State of Oregon POY on Offense this last season. In the State 5A Championship game he was responsible for EIGHT touchdowns between throwing three and running for five. (New State Record)The year before? He was the State of Oregon 5A POY on Defense. An extraordinary safety...But wait! He was also an incredible receiver for them.Beavis is not happy about his joining Oregon because he has originally verballed to receive a BASEBALL scholarship to Oregon State. He was first team All-State in Baseball for both his junior and senior year while batting .554 as a senior. Good Grief...is this guy an athlete or what? Here is his very interesting bio at GoDucks.com for you to consider...Wilsonville SpokesmanThe Super Man - Wilsonville's Mark Wiepert - Wilsonville...Wilsonville's Mark Wiepert is named Athlete of the Year for 2024-25.Whew! As you may recall, Herbert was a 3 star QB because he didn't play his junior year (broken leg), and basically nobody knew who he was (and he didn't do the camps). He hardly had any offers and none from top tier programs... until at the last minute when Oregon seemed to suddenly realize that we were desperate for QBs (not to mention that fact that Marcus was as a 3 star well).Due to the fact that Wiepert came from a relatively smaller school, and it sounds like he didn't focus on the QB role until his senior year, maybe we do have another secret-stud QB waiting in the wings (pun intended). One thing for certain is that he is clearly a serious stud athlete. 5 hours ago5 hr No. Wilsonville is a sports powerhouse in the state of Oregon at the 5A level. They and Summit are the two schools fighting for state titles. Wilsonville have won back to back 5A football titles. With being a 2 sport athlete, it can be hard to go to all the camps where recruiting scouts go to evaluate players. I'm glad our coaches were able to see the potential with him.
4 hours ago4 hr Author Administrator No. I have made reference to him a few times on the forum, as I believe he is the classic diamond-in-the-rough that could shine for us. And he is a state of Oregon player, of which makes it more appealing. For those who are thinking it....yeah, Coach Waz knows all about him and would love him to play Baseball. But he came here for football! These walk-ons might be THE quarterback recruiting strategy in the future; get experienced portal transfer QBs and back them up with savvy walk-ons. I mean honesty...if your stud QB goes down--you are screwed anyway.I will also admit that a quarterback recruiting strategy is still evolving for coaches, and for us to understand. Mr. FishDuck
