Look at what coach Sabin has done at bama. He’s always bringing in great coaches for a few years of re-hab. Seems to be working pretty well for him, and for them too. 
 

Peterson doesn't need a rehab program though, he stepped down on his own, admittedly after a not great season but his overall record speaks for itself.  If Chip is hired a top notch DC should be the most important hire.

Correct. The DC is huge. 
I heard he (CP) was just tired of all the head coach crap. Chip handles  it better than anyone. I think it’d be a good fit for both of them.
