Posted January 21, 20214 yr Per Rivals the 2021 recruiting rankings places the Pac-12 teams as follows: 6 Oregon 8 USC 28 UCLA 37 Utah 39 Washington 43 Cal 50 Colorado 51 Washington State 55 Stanford 56 Arizona State 70 Arizona Oregon State did not make the list. So what does that tell you ?? 1) Not much has changed in the pecking order of things for the Pac-12. It's USC vs. Oregon 2) Those below 50 will continue to be irrelevant but dangerous as a trip-up game if the others are not "UP" for it. 3) Oregon is right up there with Georgia (No. 5), and close with Clemson (No. 4), LSU (No. 3) 4) Oregon is one 5* + one 4* away from Ohio State (No. 2). The bottom line is that Oregon recruiting is still kicking it in high gear. The future looks good.
January 21, 20214 yr Moderator Utah is a very good illustration of what recruiting means. The Utes have been a tough team, since before they joined the Pac-10, and with Colorado, made it the Pac-12. They have a good record, but this ranking of 37, is probably close to their average, and that won't win championships.
January 21, 20214 yr Administrator IMHO....you cannot end up in the Top 15 consistently in wins/results if you do not average at least a No. 20 ranking in recruiting. But the bottom line is that we have to perform on the field as OSU and Cal should not have beat us--as you know. Interesting that Chip Kelly is No. 3 in the conference? That is quite a change from the recent past... Mr. FishDuck
January 22, 20214 yr How is it possible that Oregon State is "not on the list?" That's the funniest thing I've heard since the howl of fear when Jeremiah Johnson torched the Beavs with his long TD run before the half. It's a list! Scroll down until you find Oregon State somewhere near Montana Tech. It's a list!
January 22, 20214 yr Administrator I believe there are 127 D-1 teams and Rivals only gives a ranking to the top 100, and they aren't in it! You can see yourself here, and note how the Beavs are out-recruited by such powerhouses as Ball State and East Carolina. I do have to admit that they are doing really well with the transfer portal...former 4-Stars they could never recruit out of high school and many of those brought in the last two years improved them to where the un-thinkable happened in Reser this year. This is key to their success. They are killing it on getting 4 stars (and a 5???) with 2+ years left to play out of the portal. As wide as the portal is becoming, the Beavers don't have to have more than a 10 member recruiting class. This is obviously a fluid situation over the next couple years until teams and players figure out how to use it.
