The mission is simple and if accomplished could play a huge role in a chance at the NCAA Tournament in two weeks. Going into the final week of the regular season in men's college basketball, Oregon sits alone in fifth place in the Pac-12 with a 10-8 record. Oregon is one game out of fourth-place Arizona State (11-7) and they sit half a game up on Utah (10-9) who is in fifth place. The stakes are high for the Ducks as they gear up for their final two games of the year, both at home. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 2 Share Posted February 27, 2023 Ducks fall off of NCAA Tournament bubble in latest version of bracketology The month of March is just right around the corner and the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team not being on the bubble for the NCAA tournament wouldn’t be a surprise if this was November. Going into the Big Dance should have been a sure thing for the Ducks. They were picked to finish third in the Pac-12, a spot that would have put them in the NCAA tournament without any problem. But the season hasn’t gone according to plan and even with Oregon’s last-second victory in Corvallis, it wasn’t enough to put the Ducks on the bubble, according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. As things stand now, if Oregon (16-13, 10-8) doesn’t make some kind of magical run in the Pac-12 tournament down in Las Vegas next week, the Ducks will be NIT bound. His status for the team's upcoming home game against California on Thursday is still in limbo. "He went a little today. Then he left and I didn't get a chance to ask him if Clay [Oregon's trainer] took him off or if he pulled himself off," said head coach Dana Altman. "But he did practice today, so he's close. Whether he's ready to go Thursday night I am not sure." Oregon is hoping to get Rigsby back on the floor to help provide rest for starting point guard Will Richardson who has been dealing with his own set of injuries. Richardson has been limited in practice after almost not playing in the team's win against Oregon State on Saturday. ASU and Oregon would both be 11-9 in that case. Oregon should have the tie breaker over ASU in that case with a win against USC. Am I missing something? The Ducks sit No. 51 in the latest NCAA Net Rankings. What's at stake for the Ducks this evening in regard to their push for an at-large bid and Pac-12 seeding? Results of head-to-head competition during the regular season. 2. Each team's record (won-lost percentage) vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular standings, and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage. When arriving at another group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record (won-lost percentage) against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to that group's own tie-breaking procedure), rather than the performance against individual tied teams. For multiple-team tie 1. Results (won-lost percentage) of collective head-to-head competition during the regular season among the tied teams. So it looks like we are in good position for the 3-way tie as well. @Penn Duck - Thank you for all the information you post for us to read! I just got confused when I read the 247 article, which states "In short, Oregon needs to win out and see either ASU get swept by the LA schools or lose at UCLA." Why does Oregon need to win out? I am probably missing something, but here is what I am thinking: If Oregon splits and ASU gets swept, both team finish 11-9. The tie breaker is then record against the highest rated team, correct? Both would be 0-2 against UCLA, so it moves to AZ. Both are 1-1 against AZ, so it moves to USC. Oregon would be 1-0 and ASU would be 0-2 USC. Tie breaker goes to Oregon. As soon as the ball was tipped, Will Richardson entered the record books. Oregon’s game against the California Golden Bears marked the 145th time that Richardson laced them up in his college career, giving him the most games of anyone in Ducks’ history. Both Jonathan Lloyd and Payton Pritchard previously held the record at 144 career games. As far as the rest of the game went, it was largely uneventful.
