For all the reasonable and... Thanks for the 3rd-party update; the only updates on the new media deal are those of unsourced 3rd parties. The short answer; No LA market and FOX not competing for media rights with ESPN. Being ungenerous, GK was clueless regarding FOX 'stealing' the LA schools, and timing-wise, he was outfoxed by the B12 moving early to the marketplace. Plus the economy has taken a dip including ESPN's parent company losing value and not wanting to spend extravagantly on sports broadcasts. And having to deal with a functionally insolvent network and with streaming entities that have not broadcast college sports events. A perfect storm for the Pac-10. We heard crickets from yesterday's 'board meeting' of the Pac-10 presidents but I still have hope the Pac-10 will make a deal that is acceptable to all 10 schools. NJDuck Moderator No. 3 Share Posted March 23, 2023 Experts say Pac-12 really could have used BYU when it comes to media rights negotiations The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel, Forbes’ Jim Williams sound off on the value of BYU in TV negotiations, expansion When the Big 12 added BYU, it may have made all the difference in the muddled world of college football media negotiations we have been witnessing with the Pac-12 the past nine months. The Pac-12 is losing UCLA and USC and considering expanding to help in negotiations with Apple, Amazon and other potential media partners. The 10 remaining teams have vowed solidarity. Last week presidents at Utah, Arizona and Arizona State made positive public declarations of hope that all will be just fine and negotiations will conclude very soon. The Pac-12 presidents passed on adding BYU eons ago and repeated that in 2010 when Texas and Oklahoma turned down invitations that ultimately went to Utah and Colorado. It became very clear in the past two decades that the Pac-12 did not want to include a religious institution like BYU, declaring “cultural fit” and “research institution” qualifications in its exclusivity decisions. But from a purely athletic and football brand perspective, many experts are now declaring that was a shortsighted move by the “Conference of Champions.” One that is costing them now. Interesting take if we had added BYU. As we all know, It's the would-of, could-of, should-of syndrome of the Pac-12's shortsightedness, one of many. The Pac-12, at this point, is trying to find a way to get the best deal possible. Hopefully with a short contract. If it seems best to add SDSU and SMU (religious institution) to the Pac-12, in 5 years time could boost the conference in their growth. SMU is financially very well endowed. Next contract down the road could find more realignment with Oregon and Washington going to the BIG, or Pac-12 conference grows stronger. Either way we need to get through the next 5 years. Experts say Pac-12 really could have used BYU when it comes to media rights negotiations WWW.DESERET.COM The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel, Forbes’ Jim Williams sound off on value of BYU in media rights negotiations. Did Pac-12 make mistake not considering it for expansion years ago?

I also posted this in another thread but it sounds like FOX is now back in negotiations in some kind of capacity. 1
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 5 Share Posted March 23, 2023 FWIW, SMU officially severed ties with the Methodist church 3 years ago. Travel? CU has to travel farther to Seattle than it would have to travel to Dallas.
Tandaian No. 6 Share Posted March 23, 2023 BYU doesn't allow its athletes to play sports on Sunday. Baseball and Softball are 2 main sports that routinely play on Sunday. I'm surprised the Big 12 are OK with altering their entire sport schedule around 1 school.
