It's a B1G Final 4 -
FYI - from a Jon Wilner Hotline ($ Wall) article. Before yesterday's loss by Duke, No. 1 seeds in the Tournament were 134-0 when leading by 15 points or more at the half. Duke's loss to UConn joins last season's late meltdown versus Houston, and the Blue Devils' fans would like to see Coach K retire from retirement and back on the Duke bench. UConn coach Dan Hurley is 10-0 Against the Spread in Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final 4 games. Again, I caution against recency bias; the SEC dominated last season's tournament. But in this season's tournament, the Big Ten went 5-0 against the SEC. "It Just Means More B1G Wins?" ๐๐๐๐๐

Oregon Moves Up to No. 15 in the Nation with Interesting D1Baseball Comments...
Thank you, Vince Scul, er, Charles, for the great B1G baseball coverage of OBD and other Big Ten and Pacific time zone programs. The notes on Oregon's pitching prowess brought me back to Vin Scully's call of Don Larsen's perfect game in 1956 - "Got him! The greatest game ever pitched ... A no-hitter, a perfect game, in the World Series." 1956 was the last time the Brooklyn Dodgers played in a World Series. In 1958, the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to LA, and the New York Giants moved to San Francisco. St. Louis was no longer Major League Baseball's western-most team. The iconic Scully called the Dodgers games for 67 years, 1950 - 2016. He was also at the mike for Hank Aaron's 715th home run in 1974, and a lame in both legs, Kirk Gibson's pinch-hit, walk-off home run against Oakland A's closer Dennis Eckersley to win a 1988 World Series game in extra innings. In 1956, I listened to Scully calling Larsen's perfect game on my transistor radio. I was fortunate enough to watch Hank Aaron's record-breaking home run and Michigan State man Gibson's game-deciding home run. Charles, you have decades left to cover your beloved Ducks!

Oregon Moves Up to No. 15 in the Nation with Interesting D1Baseball Comments...
There are five baseball polls, but the one I focus on is D1Baseball for consistency. We finished No. 12 in the nation in their polls--three years ago and two years ago. We were on that path last year until the pitcher meltdown in our hosted NCAA Regionals. Thus we were not ranked preseason this year, and not for nearly a month into the season, but Coach Waz and Oregon baseball is known, and if you keep winning--the rankings will follow. After at No. 23, then No. 20, and then No. 19....we are now at No. 15 in the nation. Below is us and our major interests and conference competitors: No. 1 UCLA 12-0 (B1G) and 25-2 No. 9 Beavis 21-5 No. 12 USC 10-2, 26-3 No. 15 Oregon 7-2, 23-5 No. 19 Nebraska 8-1, 22-6 And we play all of them above to sort out the conference, and improve our RPI. (We play Nebraska and USC at PK Park) There was an interesting article about Oregon vs. USCB by D1Baseball writer Eric Sorenson, and he clearly liked both teams, but was impressed by the improvement in Oregon pitching. We are not there yet, but we have had big steps forward by many of our relievers. Coach Waz stated in an interview recently that many of our relievers are nails in practice scrimmages, but need experience in games to make it happen there. Thus why four of our five losses were due to pitching, but he explained that "you have to play them to get experience and get over that hump." You can see how many relievers have grown, and given the Ducks clutch performances that have resulted in more wins for Oregon. Now with that--everybody has a bad day, and we have even seen that from our starters on occasion, just as we have observed it from our opponents. Back to the D1Baseball article--Sorenson writes... Coach Waz is one of the more unique head coaches in our sport because he is the only one who will ask me, โWhat did you think of us this weekend?โ Yes, he actually asked me that, both this weekend and the weekend of the Vegas Tournament. This time I told him, โYou guys proved you could win some games against a really good opponent without having to rely on the home run or big multi-base hits.โ In Vegas they bashed the ball around a lot, gaining a few two-run and three-run yard calls to win games. Here in Santa Barbara they relied on their pitching and defense to win games. Oh sure, Angel Laya got his fencebuster today, but itโs not like the Ducks based their entire hopes of winning on the long ball. โThe inexperience thing was real,โ coach Wasikowski said about their earlier struggles this season on the mound. โNow, as you see these guys starting to get more experience, youโre seeing them settle down and the game has become manageable. I see them growing and developing every day and thatโs a credit to Matt Florer and Dan Straily for working with those guys on a daily basis.โ Tanner Bradley has emerged to be a top reliever.

Oregon Wins Pitchers' Duel vs. Santa Barbara, 2-0!
Shutout Clinches Series for Ducks GOLITA, Calif. โ A dominant performance from the Oregon pitching staff powered the Ducks to a 2-0 win over UC Santa Barbara in the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. Oregon (23-5) got six shutout innings and nine strikeouts from starting pitcher Cal Scolari (4-0) before turning things over to the bullpen. Tanner Bradley kept the Gauchos (16-9) scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings, and Devin Bell closed things out in the ninth for his sixth save of the season. The Ducks' offense managed just five hits, but freshman Angel Laya delivered a big swing in the fourth inning with a solo home run to give Oregon a 1-0 lead. Oregon pieced together an important insurance run in the ninth inning, scoring on a wild pitch to give Bell a two-run cushion. The weekend series win was the sixth straight for the Ducks to open 2026 and their 13th in a row dating back to April 4-6, 2025. Oregon has now won 19 of 20 series since the start of the 2025 season. How it Happened: Oregon threatened in the first inning with two runners in scoring position after a walk to Dominic Hellman and a double by Drew Smith, but the Gauchos were able to escape the jam. Scolari and UCSB starter Kellan Montgomery both worked around runners in scoring position over the next couple frames to keep the game scoreless going into the fourth. Cal Scolari at UCSB Laya continued his terrific freshman campaign in the top of the fourth inning, breaking a scoreless tie with a long solo home run over the right-center field wall for a 1-0 lead. It was Laya's ninth home run of the season, just one shy of tying teammate Maddox Malony for the program freshman record. Scolari was nearly unhittable over the next three innings, retiring nine of the next 10 batters he faced while racking up five strikeouts. His nine strikeouts on the game set a new season high as he recorded his second quality start. The Ducks again put two runners in scoring position in the seventh but were unable to cash in. Bradley came on in relief of Scolari and bounced back from a one-out double to strike out the next two batters he saw and keep Oregon's lead at 1-0 going into the eighth. Bradley set the Gauchos down in order in the eighth while adding a third strikeout, and Oregon's offense came up with a huge insurance run in the top of the ninth. Ryan Cooney tripled with one out and was replaced on third by Jax Gimenez after a hit-by-pitch and a fielder's choice. Following an intentional walk to Smith to load the bases, Gimenez was able to race home on a wild pitch to push Oregon's lead to 2-0. Bell came on for the bottom of the ninth and bounced back from a one-out walk to induce a pair of flyouts to end the game and secure the win for the Ducks. Box Score Notes: With a fifth-inning hit-by-pitch, Gimenez extended his reached base streak to 18 games, matching the second longest by a Duck this season โฆ Gimenez reached base three times (2 HBP, BB) but saw his 14-game hitting streak end โฆ Cooney recorded his second career triple and first of the season โฆ Cooney finished 2-for-4, his 11th multi-hit performance of the season โฆ Bradley threw multiple shoutout innings for the ninth time this season and has allowed just three earned runs in 21.2 innings of relief on the year. On Deck: Oregon returns home for a single midweek game against Portland on Tuesday (5:05 p.m./B1G+) before hitting the road for a three-game weekend series at Michigan.

Holy Hurley! Duke pulls defeat from the jaws of victory. Oregon Wins Pitchers' Duel vs. Santa Barbara, 2-0!
Ducks win 2-0! Ryan Cooney hits to the RF corner, as the fielder lost it in the sun. He charges past second and barely gets into third for a triple. Jax Gimenez was plinked, and Dominic Hellman hits a grounder, but they threw home to get Cooney out. Both remaining runners are in scoring position... Drew Smith was intentionally walked to load the bases...so we have Ducks-on-the-Pond! A wild pitch scores Gimenez for our second run! Closer Devin Bell was brought in, got an out, and then walked a batter, and looked shaky on his first pitch to the next one. That brought a mound visit, and he generated 95-96 mph heaters to create two fly-balls to finish the game. Santa Barbara has one of the best pitching staffs in the nation, as their problem as of late was scoring as much as they'd like. But Oregon really matched that staff with stud pitching today by Cal Scolari, (who got the win) Tanner Bradley, and Devin Bell. (Who got the save) We went 4-1 on the road trip, and getting our butts-kicked yesterday was the perfect wake-up call to remind the team how much they hate losing. Sorry for no videos, as UCSB did not provide any, and the game recap will be here in 2-3 hours. Way to go DUCKS! Cal Scolari Today...
