  2. Dan Mullen, where are you? In Las Vegas, but next season in Lincoln, perhaps? No surprise that The Athletic rates Mullen the top coach in the G6.

  4. Poor-Doo is pasted in San Jose. But hats off to making it to the Elite 8. Arizona 76 - Purdue 61 Next up for the U of A is the winner of tomorrow's game between Michigan and Tennessee. Yet again, Arizona looks like the most complete team in this season's Tournament.
  5. The current TCU roster has 3 seniors who were at Oregon: Kennedy Basham, Taylor Bigby, Maddie Scherr. Bigby and Scherr were recruited to Oregon by Campbell/Lopez. Basham: UO>ASU>TCU; Bigby UO>USC>TCU; Scherr UO>UK>TCU TCU coaches at Oregon: 2014-21 – Mark Campbell - Grave's chief assistant 2015-21 – Xavier Lopez – recruiter especially international players for Graves 2019-20 – Minyon Moore – player (transfered from USC to Oregon) TCU also has Donovyn Hunter (Medford, Oregon) who attended Oregon State. And, transfers from San Diego State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, South Dakota, Kentucky, Tex A&M
  6. Getting Horny in Houston - In a game delayed for seven minutes when a game horn refused to shut up, Illinois defeats Iowa 71-59 and moves on to the Final 4 in Indianapolis vs. the winner of Duke vs. UConn. Illinois windexed the boards, but poor 3-point shooting by the Illini kept the game close. Another low-scoring game on the court in Houston. Bad sight lines? Hats off to 9-seed Iowa for defeating a number 8, 1, and 2 seed on the way to the Elite 8.
  7. Gauchos win 8-2 as my "pitching depth" did not deliver today. Ugly.
  8. 8-2 Gauchos after eight innings. Oregon did nothing at the plate, and our pitchers of Blake Crawford, Leo Uelmen and Cooper Markham gave up hits, walks, plinked batters and the floodgates opened against the good-guys.
  9. 4-2 Gauchos after seven innings. Oregon is being tortured by opposing pitchers today, as their reliever is pretty darn good. The Ducks new pitcher brought in, RS Freshman Blake Crawford, who had only pitched three innings this year, but must have inspired the confidence of the coaches. He delivered with a scoreless inning.
  10. 4-2 Gauchos after six innings. Nothing from our batters, but Michael Meckna came in to relieve Clarke and did well with a 1-2-3 inning.
  11. 4-2 Gauchos after five innings, as the Santa Barbara pitcher finally tired. With two outs--a flurry of four Oregon hits began. Ryan Cooney got a hit with a grounder up the middle, and Jax Gimenez got a hit through the right infield, while Cooney put on the jets to move to third. Then Dominic Hellman drove a hit through the right infield as well to score Cooney, and put Gimenez on third. Drew Smith then hits to mid-CF to score Gimenez! Then Collin Clarke got tired. Bottom line is that he gave up a slew of hits to allow two more runs.

  13. 2-0 Gauchos after four innings. Our Beloved Ducks are facing a pitcher who is hot-hot-hot... Collin Clarke gave up a walk, but closed them down after that. He is not at his best today, but more than good enough to keep them scoreless.
  14. Nebraska Spring Game 2019 attendance: 86,000 2024 attendance: 60,000 2026 attendance: 27,188 Attendance for Spring 2025 was down quite a bit from prior years as college coaches have changed many aspects from game type conditions toward glorified practices. Ohio State and Michigan had about 40,000 in 2025, for example. Reportedly, Florida led the nation with about 56,000. Oregon was listed as third in the B1G with a high 30'sK at Autzen.
  15. 2-0 Gauchos after three innings. Ducks got things going at bat, but stranded two on base.... Collin Clarke was not happy after last inning, and put them down 1-2-3...
  16. 2-0 Gauchos after two innings. Ducks can't hit this opposing pitcher yet. Collin Clarke gave up a hit, but then self-inflicted wounds began. He plinked a batter to have two on base, then an error by the 2nd baseman allowed a run to score...and then a wild pitch scored another run for UCSB.
  17. 0-0 after one inning. Ducks went down a bit too easy as batters, and Collin Clarke had two on base, but got out of it.
  18. I don't know which pitcher Oregon will face, but it will be between Nathan Aceves, (3.77) and Kellen Montgomery (3.86) of the Gauchos. We counter with Collin Clarke, (2.79 ERA) and it figures to be another low-scoring affair unless the Ducks can get the pitch count high enough to get their starter out. It is hard to know if the offensive woes yesterday by Santa Barbara were due to a batting lineup in a slump, or if the pitching they faced was that good. Their starter was impressive, and our runs were scored on relievers. I do believe today, as yesterday, that we have a better batting lineup who can break through sooner in the game. But you know how it goes...it all depends on how that pitcher is doing today. Sometimes we get snuffed by a pitcher in the high3s for ERA, and other times we have beat them up. And that is what makes the game so interesting to watch! Today you will see a ton of a pitch you rarely saw yesterday; the change-up, and Clarke has a few variations that are darn hard to hit. He has a tendency to give up home-runs, but often--that is all they get, hence the low ERA. Collin Clarke

  25. "I read it as “from the original 10” which allows for a non-inflated, apples to apples comparison to what happened in 1985." That's the way I read it too. IF the women's Elite 8 includes Texas and Oklahoma they would be non-legacy. Of course, they have to beat Kentucky and S. Carolina (not likely for OU). Though S. Carolina didn't join the SEC until 1991. I think the writer may have just been expressing the general Big Ten malaise in recent years has been overcome this season by old members. Didn't have to rely upon new members.
  26. Travel eastward, and the further you get, the deeper and stronger the pull of old tradition grows. And, by comparison, B1G bias pales the further east you get (how’d they accept us in the Ivy League?), and the south is on a completely different planet. Pretty simple formula: the less time you’ve spent together, the less time you’ve had to develop bad habits. Give them 20 years and maybe we’ll get a few smiles. Prefer being west.

  28. Chicago dropped football in 1939 because the game was becoming too professional. 🤑 I don't expect we'll see Phil the Phoenix, the University of Chicago mascot so named after Chicago recovered from the Great Fire of 1871, on the Maroons football sideline anytime soon. In 1898, Michigan's 12-11 victory over Chicago, which won the conference title for the Wolverines, led to Michigan music student Louis Elbel composing 'The Victors,' praising Michigan for being the Victors Valiant, the Conquering Heroes, and the Champions of the West. Chicago, under coach Amos Alonzo Stagg, was a national power in football. In 41 seasons at Chicago (1892-1932), the Yale All-American went 244-211-27. Referred to as 'the father of modern football,' Stagg's innovations included the huddle, man-in-motion, and numbers on the jersey. Stagg is behind only Kirk Ferentz and Woody Hayes in the number of career wins, 314 wins over 57 years of coaching. When college football was king, and the pros a barnstorming afterthought, the University of Chicago was one of the top programs in the sport. No matter how successful a modern program may be, including Nick Saban's terrific run at Bama, you cannot match this kind of tradition and the influence that echoes into today.
