The B1G Plays Some Big Games in Week 2
The B1G going 14-2 in Week 1, and 2-1 against the Power 4 was nice; however, B1G teams were the favorites in all of the 14 games won, including now-ranked No. 1 Ohio State's win over Arch-Madness and the now-ranked 7th Texas Longhorns. UCLA's Coach Foster would like you to know that the Bruins were 'this close' to taking down Utah and turning a 43-10 loss into victory, and that the Rose Bowl was sold out with 59,670 UCLA fans disguised as empty seats. Pat Fitzgerald, where are you? Saturday, 9/6/25 - UCLA at UNLV, 5 PM CBSSN. Week Two's B1G Varsity versus Varsity Games - The Headliner - College Gameday, sans Coach Corso, who went out in a blaze of glory, going 6-0 with his picks, will be in Norman, Oklahoma, for the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines +5.5 versus No. 18 Oklahoma, as Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore returns to his alma mater. (Before Sherrone takes an NCAA-mandated two-game nap, with another one coming in 2026.) An intriguing QB battle could be on hand with Frosh Bryce Underwood, battling Wazzu transfer QB John Mateer, both of whom are better off financially than they were in 2024 🤑. (Perhaps Michigan found Justice with Bama transfer RB Haynes. 😒) This is B1G vs. the SEC in the second of three matchups in 2025. 4:30 ABC. No. 11 Illinois -2.5 at No. 37 Duke. Another interesting QB battle with the Illini Super Senior, Luke Altmyer, going against Tulane transfer, and the reason Murph left for the G6, Darian Mensah. (Darian did not have to be a member of Mensa to make the Durham decision for a reported $8 million two-season Nil deal.) The Battling Bielema's beat down a bunch of FCS leathernecks last Saturday while Duke blew out the less-than-elite Elon. Is Illinois legit? Is the ACC as good as FSU and Miami looked in Week 1? Or was Clemson the tell? 9 AM ESPN. Iowa +3 at No. 16 Iowa State. This season's Cy-Hawk game has ramifications beyond the importance of a traditional rivalry game, where the Iowa Hawkeyes have a lead over the Iowa State Cyclones, 47-24. Last Saturday, Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz tied Woody Hayes' record for wins by a Big Ten coach at 205 victories. He's looking to break the record in a stadium where Iowa has not lost since 2011. This is only the second time in the history of the series where the home-standing Cyclones and not the Hawkeyes are ranked. ALL-FCS QB Mark Gronowski was brought in to upgrade the Hawkeyes' passing attack. Mark was not on the mark, throwing for 44 yards and 1 TD. Iowa ran the ball 52 times for 310 yards. The Cyclones QB, Rocco Becht, is off to a great start. 2-0 Iowa State is the highest-ranked B12 team, and if the conference wants more than one team in the playoffs, it needs a win against a B1G opponent. 9 AM Fox. Michigan State -3.5 versus Boston College. J. Smith and his Spartans are looking for a victory after last season's close loss to BC and then starting QB Thomas Castellanos. (Ring a bell, Kalen 😁) Against Western Michigan, Aiden Chiles was decent at QB, 17-23 for 155 yards, 1 TD, and no interceptions. In Week 1, BC defeated Vince Lombardi's alma mater, Fordham, 66-10. Behind a rebuilt O-line, Sparty's run game busted the visiting Broncos. 4:30 PM NBC No. 6 OREGON -28.5 vs the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Cowboys coach Mike Gundy is broke, busted, and disgusted. After going 0 for the B12 in 2024, Mike took a one-million-dollar pay cut. Mike doesn't believe poor little OK State should have to battle the financial behemoth Oregon Ducks. You'd think a Power 4 coach would have more cents than to talk his way out of a Power coaching spot in Stillwater. We can't compete with Oregon and other programs with more money. OK, State, when the Super Conference arrives, perhaps you'll get a coveted bid and join the Pac-Whatever plus Gonzo. 2nd Week step 2 for OBD on the flight into a Whiteout. Before Gundy opened his trap, Danno may have called off the Ducks. Now? 12:30 PM CBS - On his last broadcasting lap, Gary Danielson visits the Autzen Zoo. Other P4 vs. P4 Week 2 games with a possible PO impact. Saturday, 9/6/2025 - 17 SMU vs. Baylor - 9 AM CW (Clueless What channel this is.) 1-0 Missouri vs 2-0 Kansas - The first Border War game since 2011. Expect the winner to be ranked next week. 12:30 PM ESPN2 No. 12 ASU at Mississippi State - Dilly and Company enter the land of Hell's Cow Bells. 4:30 PM ESPN 2. No. 21 Ole Miss at Kentucky - 12:30 PM ABC - Coach Mark Stoops needs to step up. No. 13 Florida vs. No. 33 and top-ranked G6 team, USF - 1:15 PM SEC Network - Possible trap game for a Gators team on the road next week in Baton Rouge vs. the No. 3 LSU Tigers. Friday Night 9/5/25 - B1G Appetizers 4:30 PM - BTN - Western Illinois at Northwestern, Northern Illinois at Maryland. Other B1G Games on Saturday - 9 AM BTN - Kennesaw State 🤪at Indiana, FIU at No. 2 Penn State, Minnesota vs. NW (Somewhere) State. 12:30 PM - No. 1 Ohio State vs. Grambling BTN, Miami-Ohio at Rutgers streaming on Peacock. The Scarlet Knights and Schiano get the Week 2 Bird. 4 PM - Middle Tennessee (might have been the best fit for young Archie?) at Wisconsin FS1 4:30 PM - Akron at No. 35 Nebraska, No. 29 USC vs. Georgia Southern, Southern Illinois at 1-0 !!! Purdue BTN 8 PM - BTN - UW vs. UC Davis. The 2nd week in a row that a Husky is Hidden under a Broadcast Bushel. 😁 With apologies to the author of 'Solomon Gundy.' Mike Gundy died on a Saturday, Buried on Sunday, And that was the end, Of Mike Gundy. 🤬 Lasso The Cowboys

Is Oregon the Next Oklahoma State?
couple comments 1) Getting into the Big Ten WAS a big deal. PK well understood that and was doing what he could, and WAS rebuffed a bit, to try to offer that Pac12 off ramp to the Ducks. It is a big deal, not only for annual funding, but ongoing public consciousness and publicity. Being in the B1G may be bigger long-term than facilities? 2) All schools have big donors, some are just bigger than others. Jerry Jones, Arkansas; Mark Cuban, Indiana; Red Combs, Texas; Boone Pickens, Oklahoma State....just to name a small few. But, they generally were/are interested in funding capital projects that will be assets for many years after they are gone. Some make donations for a facility maintenance fund to ensure their longevity. The goalposts have moved a bit due to inflationary operating costs and NIL, but the positive positioning from capital projects is still important. 3) Will there potentially be a step-back without Knight? Aside from being a major donor, he has a presence within team activities that still resonates. Think about how many recruits post photos with Knight if they can get close enough to him to do so. He is Nike. But, he is also Yoda for Oregon's Star Wars facilities. Once he is gone, I don't see someone that fills that spot. (Matthew McConaughey, Will Ferrell, Shaq, Larry the Cable Guy??...come-on, not even close)

Is Oregon the Next Oklahoma State?
Yes, lots of other factors. The oregon blur offense, uniforms, other cool factors. It would interesting if T. Boone was still alive, he'd probably be all in on NIL hence improving the program. But, oh well.

From what i've heard he's got things setup to help the Ducks for a long time. But, it still won't be the same. There will be a dip, just how big?

Yeah, me too. I hate to be the crusty, old guy, saying, "well, back in my day...." But, life was really tough for Oregon fans back in the day. Spoiled kids today!!! lol
-
Is Oregon the Next Oklahoma State?
Exactly, Oregon does not have as many rich donors as those type of schools, we just currently have the one richest guy. Kinda having all of our duck eggs in one basket.

Is Oregon the Next Oklahoma State?
Yes, pure sarcasm... lol. Obviously. It truth, I don't see OBD going back to the dark ages, but it's reasonable to think that we will have a sizable drop from where we sit now. When does Oregon get a better chunk of the media rights? 2030? That's a small band-aid, at least.

Is Oregon the Next Oklahoma State?
Follow up, we all know, but when you tally it up it’s pretty stark. Using the same criteria, since 1994 OBD have 10 conference titles and 3 playoff (including BCS title game) appearances. FYI - A little context - prior to the expanded playoff last year, only 10 teams had ever made the playoff.
-
Is Oregon the Next Oklahoma State?
By the time PK goes the way of his forefathers OBD will be close to or at full revenue sharing in the BIG, which will be somewhere around $100 million a year (give or take $20 million). With Oregon's strong brand (The GOAT of brand equity?), fiscal management, facilities, NFL presence, etc, etc, I don't see us EVER going the way of the Cowpokes. IMHO.
-
Is Oregon the Next Oklahoma State?
Who knows what the financial future holds. I do know the costs of competing in college sports are sky rocketing upward, along with inflation. At some point, the financials will be an issue, and Oregon will not be the only one struggling to balance an athletic budget each year. I can’t worry about what might happen. We all face challenges, and I am sure Oregon will continue to be known as “the Fighting Ducks”, far into the future.
-
Is Oregon the Next Oklahoma State?
I think we’re pretty well established on the field. Since 1994 (31 years!) OkState has one conference title and zero playoff appearances. Having a particularly notable donor does not make us the same.

Oregon - Oklahoma State Pre-Game Reports, Interviews, Etc.
After looking nearly flawless in their first game of the season last weekend, the Oregon Ducks will turn around again this Saturday and look to dominate another opponent inside Autzen Stadium. On the heels of a 59-13 victory over Montana State, the Ducks are once again four-score favorites, this time against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. While the betting line suggests that this may be a blowout, there are still players on the Pokes who warrant attention for Dan Lanning's team on Saturday. While Oklahoma State got a solid win against UT Martin, they suffered a tough loss with starting quarterback Hauss Hejny going down with a broken foot that required surgery. So, who will step up in his place, and what are some other names that Oregon fans should be aware of going into the weekend? Let's take a look: Five Oklahoma State Cowboys who Oregon Duck fans should know before Week 2
