Romero's Historic Round Powers Ducks Into 36-Hole Lead GOLD CANYON, Ariz. - Sophomore Kiara Romero fired the lowest round in Oregon women's golf history on Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional, carding a 10-under 62 to surge into the individual lead and move the No. 5 Ducks into the team lead after 36 holes at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club. Oregon will enter Wednesday's final round at 5-under par for the tournament, four strokes ahead of second-place Oklahoma State (-1). The Ducks are 23 strokes up on No. 17 Auburn for fifth place and 25 shots clear of sixth-place Cal State Fullerton, with the top five teams after Wednesday advancing to the 2025 NCAA Championships (May 16-21) in Carlsbad, Calif. Romero made an incredible 11 birdies against just one bogey en route to a 10-under 62, besting the previous program record of 9-under 63 set by Cathleen Santoso in 2013-14. She also set a new course record at Superstition Mountain, breaking the previous record of 63. The 2025 Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Year, Romero will enter the final round with a four-stroke lead over Arizona State's Patience Rhodes (-8) in the individual race. Good take. Great in fact. My only difference is I have Oregon at 6, with everyone behind them moving up a slot. Despite all that talent, two things come to mind. First, we are not going to see Bo Nix or Dillon Gabriel stats or execution level this year. Second, the defense must prove they can keep elite offenses under 30 ppg. I can’t justify a number three rating looking at replays of the last two years against elite offenses. Moore has to play like Novo does just to have a chance to look like 23’ or 24’. If he does, he still will have to drop 35-45 to beat elite teams until proven otherwise. Penn State, and Notre Dame will definitely play elite defense, and Georgia should. OBD can do it, but the proof is in the pudding. Once again, In Dan I Trust. Obviously I have a lot of faith, but I’m not 18 anymore. As far as Penn State. I believe you’re correct. But only because they don’t have elite WRs. If they did, they’d take the title in my opinion.

Great article Jon (as usual)! I wouldn’t have guessed the SEspnC would take on more challenging competition. Could it be they’re looking to expand their TV ratings beyond those dominant numbers in conference games? And the playoffs. What do you think of keeping the format at 12? Especially with the opaque grading system the committee uses? Personally, I believe the P2 will always get 7, if not 8 in the current format if it’s expanded. Since controversy actually drives ratings, is it possible the P2 keeps the status quo and tweaks the regular season more? If we see a Super League, who gets invited? How many teams would participate? Would ratings collapse for the sport overall? The SEC completely drives ratings, with only Michigan and Ohio State pulling comparable numbers. Much to mull over for Sankey and Pettitti. Plenty for us to speculate about.

I know preseason rankings are a crapshoot and right now there isn't a consensus top team unlike the past few years. There isn't an Alabama, Georgia, Clemson or Ohio State that is returning most of their roster from a championship squad. How many of us would've predicted Oregon would hang onto the number one ranking most of last year and be the only undefeated team heading into the playoff? They had to go to Wisconsin and Michigan, they also hosted Ohio State. This was their welcome to the B1G. So since we are are still a little over three months to go before the season starts and it's kind of the dead season for sports unless you're a baseball fan(I'm not). I would like to see what most would predict are going to be the top 10 teams exiting spring practice. We can always laugh about these after the season starts. Here's mine. 1.) Ohio State 2.) Texas 3.) Oregon 4.) Penn State 5.) Georgia 6.) Notre Dame 7.) Clemson 8.) Alabama 9.) South Carolina 10.) LSU I know Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama and Notre Dame are all breaking in new QBs and a good amount of their rosters. But I believe in the abilities of those head coaches and the systems they run. Ohio State is coming off a title run and despite losing 14 guys to the draft, I gotta give them the nod. Ryan Day has never lost more than two games as a head coach. As far as Clemson, LSU and South Carolina. I believe in their returning QBs to carry them despite what most see as questions scattered about the rest of their rosters. I do believe you can carry momentum from one season to the next. Last, I can't imagine James Franklin winning a title even with all their returning talent, including Allar. I see them as a playoff team. But I just don't have any faith in their ability to win three or four straight times against elite competition. They got an absolute gift of a road to the championship game last year and they still blew it. That won't happen again. I believe the selection committee will do a better job balancing out the bracket.

Oregon Recruiting Hour: When Will the Ducks' Skid End? There are always twists and turns, ebbs and flows and highs and lows in recruiting. Right now Oregon is definitely in a low, with no new commitments since February and three priority targets pledging to other schools in recent days. 5-star quarterback Jared Curtis committed to Georgia, 4-star wide receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt committed to Ohio State and Derek Colman-Brusa committed to Washington. So what’s going on with the Ducks on the recruiting trail? When might this dry spell end?

I’m missing something I think. Outside of Stanford I can’t think of a a franchise QB coming out of Georgia. Bobo was a good college QB ( I think ), as was Bennet ( I guess ). Hines Ward turned into a feared wide receiver for Pittsburgh but only took a few snaps at QB. Oregon however has a QB list far outweighing the Bulldogs which couldn’t hang onto to Beck. Curtis should start right away and will be successful because of the cast of studs around him. If he goes to the Ducks I see him sitting for maybe 3 years. Judging from the spring game we are in excellent shape at qb. Worry Not my friends.
