Is Oregon’s NIL and Recruiting Ahead of Everyone?
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
TAMU & Jimbo should have been a flashing stop sign, but USC and Riley are blasting through it. NIL and the portal have made roster stability archaic, but USC in the midst of a drought thinks making a big splash is a sound strategy. Meanwhile, Oregon, the flashy brand, is playing it cool. -
CFB Format change held up because of a beef between the B1G and the SEC, Naturally? What's holding up CFP expansion? SEC and Big Ten are at a potential impasse on these key issues SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Keeping the playoff at its current 12-team format is a grim reality for some, but it’s a possibility, perhaps even a probability as negotiations creep closer to the Dec. 1 deadline. The PO staying at 12 is better for the B1G than a 16-team field with an 11-5 format. Did the author of this article not get the memo that the Advisory Board member SEC was on board with automatic qualifiers before sucker-punching the B1G? The SEC using ESPN's FPI data to justify staying at 8 conference games is laughable for anyone with the slightest clue. The 2025 FPI preseason ranking has 13 SEC teams in its top 25. If need be, Commissioner Petitti, use a B1G veto and stay at 12 teams.

One of these things is not like the others: Honest Abe, George 'I Cannot Tell a Lie' Washington, Greg Sankey. College Football Playoff format talks go back to drawing board as SEC gains momentum to keep 8-game schedule - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Newly proposed metrics could work in the SEC's favor as it looks to avoid a nine-game slate Will the B1G's Tony Petitti pull a Larry Scott and let Sankey and the SEC get away with this crud? I'd rather see the B1G exercise its 'veto power' and stay with a 12-team PO.

This Weaton Isn't Going to Score for the Ducks
David Marsh replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oregon State can be a feeder program for the Ducks. I'm cool with that. I'm not saying Stars are everything, but Oregon is really recruiting at the absolute top end of things right now. Wheaton the younger just isn't on that list. And frankly I'm not sure Wheaton the elder would have made the cut for this staff. But without Wheaton the elder we wouldn't have this staff today. -
Injury Reporting and Player Availability should be required for all teams for the entire season. OK, maybe not D3 teams? College Football Playoff will require teams to provide player availability reports beginning with 2025 season - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM The CFP will follow in the footsteps of the Big Ten and SEC

Is Oregon’s NIL and Recruiting Ahead of Everyone?
David Marsh replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yes... He who shall not be named does use the portal in a way that differs greatly from Oregon. The portal in bulk approach that Kiffin at Ole Miss kinda uses as well. I would say the portal bulk approach is there because they are searching for overlooked diamonds in the portal. There are some absolutely... Benson was fantastic at FSU but didn't emerge at Oregon. But Lanning has something that few teams do... The ability to pick the top talent from the portal and land them consistently. Often taking the BEST players from other teams and treating them like feeder schools. We don't know how all this NIL stuff is going to playout in the near future as the House Settlement is still proceeding. But what's clear is that Oregon isn't going to overspend on high school recruits when they can dominate the portal. -

Couple other things of note... I wrote this article a couple weeks ago so things have changed slightly or just proven my point the more. Brandon Arrington jr (a highly sought after CB in the 2026 cycle) is considered a TAMU lean because their offer on the table is so much larger than what Oregon is willing to pay. Some school's NIL program is still using blunt force (aka just outbid everyone) to recruit. Oregon hasn't and isn't playing that game. But as we saw with Dante Moore ... That doesn't mean we can't catch some of these players on the rebound. What if they don't have the season they dreamed of at their chosen school? They might be coming to Oregon after all. -

Is Oregon’s NIL and Recruiting Ahead of Everyone?

Thank you, David, for a terrific, balanced look at today's world of recruiting. As Ohio State evidenced last season, it's also important to have money on hand to keep quality players on board for one more season. NIL is influencing decisions on whether to leave early for the NFL. Meanwhile, the Spendthrift Portal King did not take 'sure roster thing' Mississippi to the playoffs—Ditto for Norvell at FSU, whose incoming portal class was lauded at the start of the season. And then there are the spend like there's no tomorrow MIA Hurricanes. Cam could not do what NIL-trailblazer $cam did at Auburn. (SIGH) Thanks again. Let's see where things stand after signing days for recruits and the portal. -
