Learn Football’s Important Analytics!
Enjoyable read. There's a saying in golf: Beware of paralysis by analysis. At some point, you have to forget about swing mechanics and just hit the darn ball. I wonder what analytics show about factoring everything into a wager, including the length of the grass on the field, compared to winging it, just going with your gut? I didn't need advanced analytics to know the Patriots' offense would be stymied by the Seattle defense. I looked at the schedules the two teams had played; the Seahawks played tougher opponents, and also considered the and how well Seattle had played defense during the playoffs. And how badly the Pats O played against a one-armed Denver team. I figured the favored Seahawks would win the game, but I also figured that under Coach Mike Vrabel, the Pats wouldn't quit and could get a back-door cover. I took the Pats and the points, and I lucked out. The Wise Guy professional gamblers look to win 53% to 55% of their football bets. Winning 52.4% of the bets means you break even. The use of advanced analytics makes sense, but sometimes you have to go with your gut. FORE! 🤬

Learn Football’s Important Analytics!
A football game is a sequence of collisions, but also a sequence of choices. A quarterback commits to a throw before he knows the window will hold. A coordinator decides whether to accept a light box or chase explosives. Analytics helps teams name those choices and price their risks. The numbers moved into the huddle that front offices now talk about ... Learn Football's Important Analytics! Isn't that a cool picture of Theran Johnson on a corner blitz?

Oregon's Next Opponent... The Northwestern Wildcats
I've been pleased with how Oregon has played so far, it's such a tough situation for Oregon since they play so few actually respected teams in the B1G. Our non-con isn't bad it's also not super impressive either, so it makes every game so much more important since you don't get a lot of leeway if you lose a game here and there against teams like Northwestern or really anyone other than UCLA/USC/UW. We're really going to need to win some of those games against the California teams to get a home regional. Also I'm sorry to ask this, but do you mean the NU have a 6.80 ERA and Oregon has a 3.12 ERA?

USC’s only loss was to the Wildcats, but in a snowstorm. Great information, and thank you!

What's Up with Italians and Geography? Saint John's coach Rick Pitino doesn't know where San Diego is located. Arkansas coach, Calamari, er, Calipari, doesn't know if Portland, Oregon, is in the USA. Dear Rick and Cal, I'm hearing that people are leaving NYC, that no one is sure where Arkansas is, and that no one cares. 'Mistakes have been made.' 🤬 Thank goodness for Tony Petitti. 😁 https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2026/03/18/march-madness-far-travel-west-coast-rick-pitino-john-calipari-mick-cronin/89198647007/?utm_source=usatoday-sports-strada&utm_medium=email&utm_cam

Oregon's Next Opponent... The Northwestern Wildcats
Here's a look at the Wildcats head baseball coach, Ben Greenspan. He was an assistant coach at Cal Poly for the 2022 season. He spent seven years as the assistant/associate coach for the Arizona State Sun Devils between 2015-2021. Under his guidance, ASU earned regional berths in 2015, 2016 2019 and 2021. After one year at Northwestern, the team improved from 10-40 (200%) to 18-34 (346%). In 2024, the Wildcats won nine non-conference road games and their fielding percentage improved from .967% (13th in the B1G) to .980% (1st in the B1G). Assistant coach Cody Jefferis attended the University of San Diego, where he played shortstop for the Toreros baseball team from 2018-2022. He was on the 2022 WCC all tournament team. He is a native from Valencia, California. Nine players on the Northwestern roster hail from California, so these guys are familiar with the West Coast. The Wildcats have only one player on their roster hitting above .300%, that's outfielder Jackson Freeman. His current stats are: .371%, 26 hits, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 7 runs batted in. Last year he hit two grand slam's, one against Illinois and the other against Maryland. Their pitching staff, up to this point, have been mediocre at best. Their team era is .680%, while our Duck pitchers are a remarkable .312%. But the games aren't won on paper. Their won on the field. As always...GO DUCKS!

Will Ducks QB Akili Smith Jr. Find Opening in a Crowded Room?
Too early to tell… We all know that backup QBs can be just one play from being a starter. Junior probably needs to be #2 on the depth chart this spring, and that means Raiola is still in recovery mode. It would be a great story if he rises through the ranks to be a starter for the Ducks, but realistically, 2027 would be the year he has a solid chance to play extended minutes. For the moment, I will just enjoy having depth at QB. The players will sort themselves out.

Will Ducks QB Akili Smith Jr. Find Opening in a Crowded Room?
Don't want to be Debbie downer on this one but I will be more surprised if Akili ever breaks into Oregon's lineup than if he doesn't. Here is why. If you look back at his Elite 11 performance it was pretty underwhelming. Arm strength and ability to read defenses were not impressive. You don't hear any behind the scenes talk of him from players, coaches of him standing out in practice. When Mariota and Herbert were freshman (and not playing) you kept hearing from players, reports out of camp that these guys were special. I haven't heard a single word from anyone about Akili. If you weren't able to push Thomas, Novasad and Moga for some mop up playing time then that doesn't bode well for the future. I would so love to be wrong but not holding my breath on this one.

His weight and height 😊👍, great to have for a QB! He has great uptick, hopefully will be able to keep him in the fold.

D1Baseball's Top 100 Hitters and Pitchers of the Week: Oregon and Opponent Listings...
Since I broke down for the first time after years of lusting--and got a subscription to D1Baseball to see all their extended coverage of College Baseball which is really helpful to learn about opponents, and see some Duck-Love. They broke Oregon into their top-25 this week at No. 21, and I'd to think we'll rise over the season. My goal for the Ducks is to make the top-16 so they host a Regional again. D1Baseball's Top 100 Pitchers of the Week: Collin Clarke of Oregon! Opponents: Santa Barbara has one, and we play them in a week and a half. The bastard Huskies had one, and we play them in Seattle near the end of the season. No. 1 UCLA had two pitchers on this list,--no surprise. But USC had THREE pitchers on this list...in one week?! Damn... D1Baseball's Top 100 Hitters of the Week: None from Oregon this week, but that'll change. Beavis had one. The bastard Huskies had one. Gonzaga had one. UC San Diego had two on the list, and we play them mid-week, next week! I Know...I'm Easily Entertained
