B1G, Oregon, Moving Up in the Baseball Rankings...
While that was a tough loss, all teams lose on occasion such as Sunday. The offense came through with 10 runs, but the pitching gave up 11? Whew! Nonetheless, Oregon (19-4) went from No. 21 to No. 20 this week with the D1Baseball rankings. Other teams of interest.... No. 1 UCLA 21-2 No. 12 USC 24-1 No. 16 Beavis 17-5 No. 24 Nebraska 18-6 It has been a long time, if ever, that the Big-10 has had four in the top-25. While that is not exemplary, it is for this cold-weather conference. Good thing the West Coast teams elevated the conference in this sport! And to help our RPI...Our Beloved Ducks play all four with Nebraska and USC at home. Speaking of them, the Trojans are winning with incredible pitching...something to see later! Dominic Hellman got his hitting Mojo back....

The Hottest Football Recruit Who...Has Never Played the Game
Unlike Howard Cosell, this fellow could play the game. He is Neff Giwa, who lives in Ireland, but was born in Nigeria. He is considered an offensive line prospect, and Mario Cristobal has already offered him, as other D1 schools are jumping in. He is physical because he plays Rugby, and because he is 6'7" and 295 pounds with a 37 inch wingspan--longer than most OTs in the NFL. And he runs a 4.88 40 yard dash, which is elite for offensive tackles. He grew up playing soccer, and is very agile. This came from an article in The Athletic, and I can't copy it. But it goes to show you how now that there is NIL....and agents can get a cut--they will be bringing more international prospects to college coaches. Whew!

FanDuel Power 4 Win Totals Are Out - What Do The Totals Tell Us About the 2026 Season?
FYI - Andy Staples, who walked on at Florida and is well-versed in It Just Means More stuff, recommends the following win total bets - OVER - Georgia 9.5, Kentucky 4.5, Oklahoma 7.5, Ole Miss 7.5, but only if Trinidad Chambliss is eligible, so stay away from the Rebels. UNDER - Vanderbilt 6.5 In Andy's opinion, the other SEC teams are too close to call, including Texas 9.5, Texas A&M 9.5, Alabama 8.5, and LSU 7.5. This will be Kiffin's toughest SEC slate. PO teams Alabama, Texas A+M, and Ole Miss are on the schedule, and LSU also plays Texas, and is on the road at Auburn and Tennessee. The last two games in the regular season see the Tigers on the road at Tennessee and Arkansas. Dabo and Clemson will be looking for revenge in Kiffin's opening game. Will QB Sam Leavitt be healthy after last season's foot injury? The word is that Kiffin really wanted UW's Demond Williams and settled for Leavitt. Off the Wall - When USC Athletic Director Jen Cohen was the AD at Washington, she hired Kalen DeBoer. If Riley does not get the Trojans to the playoffs and Bama wins 9 or fewer games, could we see DeBoer in LA?

Womens Basketball Game Today...
Unless you’re the one doing the thumping, the women’s tourney doesn’t work very well until the elite 8 imo. The men’s tourney just had a 1 seed lose on opening weekend…simply never happens with the women’s tournament.

BIG TEN MEN'S UPDATE
The Sweet 16 - Thursday, March 26th 11 Texas vs 2 Purdue - 7 PM/ 4 PM - CBS - San Jose B1G vs SEC. Texas could be the best 11-seed in NCAA Tournament history. 9 Iowa vs 4 Nebraska - 7:30 PM/ 4:30 PM - TBS - Houston As was the case with Alabama vs. Oklahoma in the CFB playoff, with many teams from the same conference in the field, there will be teams from the same conference matching up. It so happens that the Hawkeyes and the Huskers are permanent football opponents and have a terrific rivalry. 4 Arkansas vs 1 Arizona - 9:45 PM/ 6:45 PM - CBS - San Jose 3 Illinois vs 2 Houston - 10:05 PM/ 7:05 PM - TBS - Houston Home cooking for the Houston Cougars. Friday, March 27th 5 Saint John's vs 1 Duke - 7 PM/ 4 PM - CBS - Washington, DC 1 Michigan vs 4 Alabama - 7:35 PM/ 4:35 PM - TBS - Chicago One sure bet: more fans will be wearing Blue than Crimson. BIG TEN MEN'S UPDATE
Congrats to the B1G getting so many teams to the Sweet 16. This is BY FAR the best conference showing in the big dance since...would you believe last century. Typically with an initial draw of 7-9 teams, the B1G gets an average of about 2-3 teams in the Sweet Sixteen in a good year and the numbers making the elite 8 were sparce indeed. I saw a large number of fundamentally sound B1G teams this week and think it very likely that one of them (probably Michigan) will break the conference's 25-year drought on winning it all. They are far from the most athletic teams, but the kind that would make John Wooden proud, playing team-oriented approaches rather than the all-too-often hero ball we see so much of today.

UCLA battled, but UConn was just too tough. Especially without the Bruins' top scorer and rebounder, Biladeau, not able to go. Six B1G teams in the Sweet 16 is a B1G conference record.

Let me repeat for emphasis. The Ducks had loaded the bases in the 11th. They get one run across, they win. They didn't.

BIG TEN MEN'S UPDATE
It's not just Jon cheerleading for the B1G....it also means money. Money to Oregon and UW from their share of Tournament Units. A conference earns one unit for every game its teams plays, now including the semifinals and championship game. For 2026, the unit is $2.15 million, which is paid out in six equal installments over six years. Those 1/6ths per year are then shared with all conference members. The so-called reduced media shares for UO and UW do not apply to Unit payouts. Both UO and UW get a full share. When a team makes the Sweet 16, that's 3 units (64>32>16) x $2.15M. $6M+ paid out over 6 years, split among all the schools. The more schools that make the Sweet 16, Elite 8....the better. Iowa will play Nebraska, Michigan St may play UCLA. Unfortunately, that may take Units off the table when the loser can't advance. There are 135 participation Units paid total. 8 for First Fours. 64 for the bracket. Then 32, 16, 8, 4, 2,1. Some conferences have made modifications, but not yet in the B1G. For example, part of the deal for Gonzaga joining the Pac12 was that they would keep half of each Unit they earned, then the other Pac schools would split the other half. The SEC pays an appearance bonus. For example, in the first 3 rounds the SEC pays the team $100,000 out of the $2.15M before the remainder is split among all members. So, when you see conference commissioners bitching about a team being left out, it's more than just boosterism...it's money.
