  2. Had to show the homer-saving catch by Boettcher...
  3. After five innings, Oregon now leads 5-4 on a Jacob Walsh two-run blast over the right-center field wall. This puts him within one homer shy of tying the HR single season record.
  4. After four innings, Utah leads 4-3 as I spoke too soon about Gordon. Bryce Boettcher caught a fly ball a foot above the fence and saved a Ute home run from happening, and then hit a two-run homer himself. Good gosh he is taking off!
  5. The Athletic likes what Ohio State has pulled from the portal. How Ohio State won the college football offseason with a new NIL approch THEATHLETIC.COM Inside Ohio State's newfound aggressive approach to talent acquisition and retention after three consecutive losses to rival Michigan. Did tOSU 'win' the portal off-season? Very debatable IMO. 247 Sports does not have the Buckeyes close to No. 1. Ole Miss is No. 1 and OBD is 2nd. Ohio State is 8th. However, like Michigan last season, tOSU used NIL to return all highly-ranked projected draft choices other than WR Marvin Harrison. 2024 and likely many seasons thereafter will see a B1G Battle of the Os.
  6. The hubris is still evident, especially when the author won't admit Dillon Gabriel is a better QB than Miller Moss.
  7. With a 12-team playoff, does a team schedule up OOC, or schedule down? The same questions apply to the B1G as apply to the SEC but with nine conference games instead of eight the concerns are not on par. SEC nonconference scheduling, like the conference schedule, is in flux THEATHLETIC.COM SEC teams' nonconference scheduling is in a holding pattern while they wait to see what the conference schedule format will be.
  8. Today
  9. Number 6, or perhaps number 1, the schedule. Ohio State has the 57th most difficult 2024 schedule; Oregon's schedule is ranked the 11th most difficult. Before the champ game in Indianapolis on 12/2, the Ducks have no control over the outcome of SC's and Penn State's record. Penn State misses Michigan and like Oregon, plays Ohio State at home. SC misses Ohio State and Oregon and plays Penn State and Wisconsin in LA. Great take and I am glad to see that you included SC in the mix. I do not believe Iowa is a true contender but the Hawkeyes and Wisconsin have approximately the same odds to win the Big Ten in 2024.
  10. Yahoo Sports article on B1G 2024 out-of-conference games. "Most bitter game during the 2024 season? Easy winner: Oregon at Oregon State." Bob Asmussen | Which Big Ten football teams are ready for a challenge? SPORTS.YAHOO.COM May 4—CHAMPAIGN — Big Ten football teams have no say in their conference schedules. They get what they get. Will it be unfair to some? Probably. Feel free to shop for another league with a...
  11. Just to share that article with others who might be interested. It’s Time for a Real Spring Game | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM The Spring Game is just a glorified scrimmage. It’s something all fans know, but we still get excited about the prospect of seeing new Oregon players show off…
  12. After two innings, Oregon leads 1-0, and thus far RJ Gordon is showing great control in the drizzling rain.
  13. Those are 3rd party contracts and cannot be influenced by anyone in the NCAA or any university. Though this could be addressed in two ways. 1. Short term and fastest way is that the bowl games payout NIL money to all those who participate as the bowl game gets use the players NIL to promote the bowl game. You could even make this more interesting by the bowl game paying out each team a base and then giving the winner more. Some prize money might incetivize some to play instead of sitting out. This is the carrot. 2. The stick of trying to restrict money for players who opt not to play cannot happen yet. It feels imminent that colleges will begin to pay their players directly and at that point colleges would probably have something set up regulating pay in their contracts. Something like players receiver X for being active participants. You shouldn't punish the kid who doesn't see the field because they aren't good enough but they do everything asked of them. And a player opting out of a bowl game would exclude them from receiving pay for that period.
  14. Breaking Down WHY Oregon Ducks Offense Will ROLL With Dillon Gabriel and Will Stein l in 2024
  15. Who can pass Kirby Smart? Ryan Day, Kalen DeBoer among contenders to supplant college football's coaching king With Nick Saban's retirement, Smart takes his rightful place at No. 1, but who can challenge him? Dan Lanning is included on the Immediate Contenders list. Who can pass Kirby Smart? 17. At least 1 Trojan 'gets it.' The inconvenient truth is that Oregon is closer to a natty than USC SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Derrick Harmon saw that Oregon is closer to a national championship than USC. It's hard to blame him.
  18. Dan Lanning explains what Will Stein provides to Oregon staff Dan Lanning explains what Will Stein provides to Oregon staff - On3 WWW.ON3.COM Orgon head coach Dan Lanning discussed what makes offensive coordinator Will Stein the right man for the job.
  19. I do like the idea of the swoosh, the O and the BIG in silver. I think it will be a great look.
  20. I don't see how Ohio State will hold onto all the young 5* QBs on the roster. Elite 11 rep heaps praise on five-star Ohio State QB commit WWW.YARDBARKER.COM The Elite 11 is the premier showcase for young quarterback recruits, and, more often than not, quarterbacks who have impressed the Elite 11 scouts have gone on to have successful...
  21. I imagine if a player is not judged unfit to play by a team doctor, not his doctor, that the player will not be paid.
  22. Solar, good point. But being the 11th team in the field instead of sitting on the bench will mean millions of dollars for a conference's coffers. You can bet the house that fans of teams that finish barely out of the 12-team field, especially SEC fans, will not be going silently into that good night. Differences in schedule strength including OOC games and in-conference will give disgruntled fans reason to beef. And the teams most likely to be impacted will be B1G and SEC teams. The settlement of the House case should it happen, will materially ramp up the cost of participation for every athletic department. Playoff revenues will matter. I expect that down the road, teams that make the playoffs and earn the money will receive a greater slice of the revenue than conference teams that do not qualify. This is already the case in the ACC. House has the potential to sink the NCAA. It's fitting because Grant House was a swimmer at ASU. (Sorry!) Giving the ACC and B12 champs seeding preference with the two being seeded in the top 4 and receiving a first-round bye even if they win the conference title with an 8-5 record, and even if they have a comparative lousy SOS will, I hope, lead to a 16-team field in 2026 with the top 16, except a G5 participant not in the top 16, and seeded according to the committee's final ranking (if a committee is still making the rankings.)
  23. NJ - great insight regarding the current rankings. At the end of the day does anyone expect that Syracuse and Wake Forest among other "leaders" will finish in the Top 25? That Georgia will finish 14th? That Oregon will finish 21st? The Ducks will sign more than six players in the 2025 class. Notre Dame is No. 1 with 20 players 'committed' and a score of 255.65. Ohio State is 2nd with 13 players 'committed' and a score of 255.56, a .09 difference. Seeing as how it is the month of May, which team is ahead? Ranking the portal picking as of today's date is incisive. Ranking the 2025 class is as silly as ranking nine SEC teams, with the lowest ranked No.19, in a much-too-early Top 25.
  24. Maybe there should be a "prima donna tax", where if a player sits out post season games they forfeit a % of NIL monies or something similar.
  25. Ohio State according to someone named Jesse Simonton of On3 Sports, has ranked Ohio State with the best RB room and excluded Alabama from his top 10. This resulted in the following reasonable response by the Bama Hammer site: Bama fans are livid, On3 failed miserably, Fans are right to call foul, ranking is not backed by solid facts, Bama fans in agreement with this nonsense ranking - Zero! I post this first to give the Buckeyes the proper respect and to point out that college football down south is not an enjoyable pastime, it is a religion. Fans and journalists who question any aspect of the religion do not have differing opinions, they are heretics. It will be very interesting to watch our OBD beefed up as of yesterday, defense go against the Buckeyes. I'll be watching the game with rapt and anxious attention and hoping, of course, that the Ducks win. Oregon as of today is -1.5 which means that Autzen is not getting the full 3-point home field bump. Ohio State, with the 57th most difficult schedule in the country, is the favorite to win the B1G title at -165. Oregon with the 11th most difficult schedule, is 2nd at -210. But win or lose, I will not be heading to Disney World, buying drinks for the house, asking my son to rename my recent grandchild 'Baby Duck,' sacrificing any fauna to coach Dan, rendering my garments, tearing my hair out, wearing sackcloth, or poisoning any nearby flora. SEC fans, not you Vandy fans, it's a Game, OK? Alabama football fans are livid about On3's top running back units BAMAHAMMER.COM An adage states opinions are so plentiful, they are worth a dime a dozen. That everyone is entitled to have one makes them no more valuable. I am a fan of the
