  2. Big Ten post-spring power rankings: Ohio State over Oregon for No. 1, USC lands in top five - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Here's how teams in the Big Ten stack up now that spring practice is in the rearview mirror We are Avis. We try harder. No surprise to see the Oregon O behind the Ohio State O. This is the case in every ranking I have seen to date. Puddles will have a 'Show Me' chance on October 12, 2024. SC at No. 5 is my dark horse B1G champion contender and this ranking does not surprise me. With Penn State playing SC in LA and the turnover on offense at Michigan, I think SC could have been No. 3 on the list. I know that many OBD members understandably, disagree with my opinion of SC.

  6. Oregon Football Coaches Fly South as Summer Recruiting Heats Up Oregon Ducks football coaches have been busy on the recruiting trail, especially in the south. The Ducks are entering their inaugural season in the Big Ten conference. Oregon Football Coaches Fly South as Summer Recruiting Heats Up WWW.SI.COM Much of college football recruiting has become about the name, image, and likeness game but there’s still a place for good old-fashioned face-to-face visits as

  8. I thought they were convinced we'd be forced to ditch him because he can't win games?
  9. 4 CFB teams did not sign an incoming transfer in 2023/24 - Air Force, Army, Navy, and Clemson. However, I would not count these Tigers out of the 2024-25 playoff. The opening game vs. Georgia in Atlanta (been there, done that, happy to get out alive) is as tough as it gets. But there is no Notre Dame on the schedule, and the games vs. NC State, Louisville, and South Carolina will be played in Clemson's version of Death Valley. (Strangely, Stanford will visit Clemson to play a conference game.) There is no per the pundits improved U on the schedule. The game at Florida State on 10/5/24 will be Clemson's on paper, toughest conference game of the season. FSU QB DGU is well known to Dabo and his assistant coaches. FSU has done well in the portal, but many of the guys on the team that went 13-1 in 2023 are gone. Clemson's D will again be salty. Will Lincoln Riley's younger brother help the offense improve in 2024 after being points-deficient under Riley in 2023? In its bowl game, Clemson put up 38 points in its comeback win against Kentucky. But the O still looked rocky in the Clemson spring game. I think Clemson has a decent chance to win the ACC in 2024. If Clemson finishes 10-2/10-3 it will be in the playoff hunt. Two games vs the SEC and going a likely 1-1, should give Clemson a scheduling bump. (If the committee cares or notices.) Dabo will leave Clemson on his terms. I do not see this happening any time soon.
  10. I wonder why Dabo is so anti-portal...his high school recruiting classes are always in the top 10 (Rivals) so maybe he thinks that's good enough to develop his talent pool via the traditional method. That being said, his competitors are using the portal to fill in holes (like DL) and passing him by. Some people are just stubborn I guess.
  11. Makes sense that tOSU's toughest game would be OBD in Autzen. For Oregon I think it's a tie between tOSU at home and Michigan on the road.
  12. It's heartening to know that there's real hope in a long term coaching situation for OBD. Guys like Saban, Smart, Dabo have been at their schools for years resulting some serious program stability and with that success at the highest echelons in college football.
  13. Thanks, NJ. I am pleased that the Civil War game will be broadcast on Fox, and not on the C(lown) W(here the Hell is It?) channel.

  16. Interesting take from Bill Rabinowitz who covers Ohio State football. OHIO STATE OF MIND: Bill Rabinowitz covers Ohio State football for The Columbus Dispatch. He joined me on Tuesday for a conversation about the upcoming football season. We talked about the addition of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and the four incoming Pac-12 teams. Rabinowitz told me he thinks the Buckeyes’ game at Autzen Stadium is the biggest test of Ohio State’s season. “I happen to think it’s the most difficult game of the season for Ohio State,” he told me. “It’s on the road at Oregon. They’ve never played there. It’s still going to be early in the season. It’s a tough game. Michigan is the one game they absolutely can’t lose because you figure Michigan is going to be a little down this year… but in terms of difficulty, if you asked ‘What game is Ohio State most likely to lose?’ I’d say Oregon.” Canzano: Plotting in Big Ten, Pac-12... and beyond WWW.JOHNCANZANO.COM Spanning the globe...
  17. Over five years in the B1G, through 2028, all B1G teams will face one another at least three times. The scheduling in the B1G was well thought out. Including teams that travel east-west and vice versa having a home game or an idle week the weekend after traveling a long way. The SEC punted with its 2025 schedule. The SEC will stay with eight conference games with the same teams that met in 2024 meeting again in 2025 with the venues being flipped. Texas and Ole Miss will not play Bama in the next two seasons and Missouri's easiest schedule in the SEC will likely be duplicated in 2025. Compared to Texas in 2024, Oklahoma has a brutal schedule that will be repeated in 2025. The SEC will not move to nine conference games before seeing how the PO Committee treats schedule strength over the next two seasons. All B1G and SEC teams will miss playing seven conference members every season. I would like to see both conferences playing ten conference games, with one of the two out-of-conference games featuring B1G vs SEC and the elimination, as you suggested sometime back David, of conference champ games. Teams that tie at the top for a B1G or SEC shared title will all make the 12-team playoff which is likely to go to 14 to 16 teams in 2026. Depending on additional conference realignment, the Playoff might morph into a Power 2 'World Series.' No other sport in the world has a post-season where the participants have such a difference in their strength of schedule. Will the PO Committee take notice?

  24. My feathered friends, an article in The Athletic about Dan Lanning was published this morning, and it was superbly researched and written. In good faith, I cannot copy the whole article, but I will give you a few tasty-tidbits including what is in the title. I suggest subscribing to this publication and they have a one-dollar per month fee is all this first year. Tons of great stuff from them... The article wraps the information about Coach Lanning around the tattoos he got just over a year ago, and what he conveyed to the artist, Alec Turner of Eugene in the process. Turner admitted that never has an Oregon coach come to him for a tat, and this production encompassed Lanning's life to date. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Think Dan Lanning Will Leave Oregon? Check the Ink by Christopher Kamrani Excerpts Trent Figg, head coach at Division III Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Mich., is one of Lanning’s former teammates and roommates. Figg says Lanning hasn’t changed since he’s ascended college football’s coaching ladder. Figg’s scouting report of his friend Dan Lanning (not head football coach Dan Lanning) is succinct: He’s a social butterfly and the life of the party at all times. He loves action movies. He likes to smoke a cigar. He likes to cook steak on his own stovetop. He still wears white Nike dress socks to work every day. “He’s the most loyal person I’ve ever been around,” says Figg. “Like, if you talk about why he stayed in Eugene instead of going to Alabama, he sees the value in how people have invested in him, and he fully believes in himself. He’s a very confident person. And he totally believes in what he has at Oregon.” Lanning: “Loyalty to me is giving the best you got every day, 10 toes down on the job that you’re responsible for and owning that and realizing success will come from that. I get to live my dream. I get to do exactly what I signed up for and what I’d hoped.” “How cool is that? (Turning down Alabama) That’s who I committed to,” Dillon Gabriel says. “That coach is the guy everyone wants for the right reasons. He’s great at connecting with people, he listens, he understands, he can translate that into action from a guy who’s been in it for a long time. Everything he’s said has come to fruition. He just keeps it real, and I think you can appreciate that. He just does the easy things at an elite level. He’s mastered it. That’s exactly why people want him.” “Dan likes to prove people wrong,” Figg says. “Dan knows he can win a national championship at Oregon, and he wants to show the world he can do it.” “I love being part of a program that’s proactive,” Lanning says. “They’ve always wanted a great product. This is a place where you can create that.” But in talking to Lanning, Tat Artist Turner says he felt like the head coach is sold on the life and pace of his hometown. Before Lanning walked out the doors, he told Turner something the artist now fully believes. “He told me he wanted to retire here,” Turner says. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good gosh my FishDuck Friends, with Dan Lanning...
