Lanning has not lost to an unranked opponent yet.  Unlike prior coaches who would play-down to their opponent, or simply let one get away that shouldn't, (Yeah, I'm thinking of Stanford over the years) this coach has the players mentally ready.

Charles, I agree, and I believe the difference is DL’s FEBU mentality that OBD are always playing themselves.  That mindset of continuous improvement.

OBD are locked in on doing better than we did last week, that 1% improvement from yesterday.

The opponent doesn’t matter.  Improve your game, whether is is against yourselves, or a faceless opponent.  JUST GET BETTER!

    Go you wonderful Ducks, Go!

  2. OK, that makes me feel better.

The Ohio State apologists are just killing me, watching some of these talking head pundents, coaches, and players is really starting to make me sick.

From “they didn’t beat us. We beat ourselves”… to “we just left too many plays on the field“… to “it wasn’t just one call“… Get over it.

    The Ducks won.

The better team won.  The team with the most yards won.  The team that controlled the line of scrimmage won.  The team with the least penalties won.  The team with the most points won.

OK, for the sake or argument, let’s play their little game. The replay shows it clearly that Jeffrey Bassa intercepted that pass so tosu does not score first.  Let’s say the ducks punt then we strip the ball, then we score, just like we did, 6 to nothing.

We make the extra  point, 7 to nothing.

They punt. We make the field goal (that we missed) 10 to nothing.  They score, 10 to 7.  Then we score our second TD and go for one instead of 2, 17 to 7 Ducks!

We score our field goal 20 to 7 Ducks. tosu scores their second TD,  20 to 14 Ducks.  We score on Tez’s long touchdown end of the half 27-14 Ducks at half!

Second half, they score 27-21 Ducks. We then take the field goal instead of turning it over on downs, 30-21 Ducks.

They score their touchdown in the third quarter 30 to 28 Ducks.  We take the points again instead of turning it over on downs, 33 to 28.

DG’s score in 4th quarter makes it 40-28.  Our final field goal with 1:47 to go makes it 43 to 28 Ducks!

Guess what to all the coaches, the players, and the pendants from tosu, you didn’t leave more on the field than we did.

You did not get hosed by the refs more than we did. You did not beat yourselves, THE DUCKS BEAT YOU. Fairly. Squarely. And Surely.

  3. Great article and one that hits home for me as well!  In the face of adversity, OBD came out with the W!

tosu can say they beat themselves all they want, but we know better.  Had we scored in the opportunities we had, gotten the bounce, or the calls, last night would have been a 44-24 beat down by OBD.

In the olden days, all of those mishaps would have translated into a Duck loss.  DL and this team refused to let it.  It really does feel like a new era is upon us!

  4. Great insight, as usual Mr. FishDuck!  Almost has me wanting to change my prediction to a shutout for OBD!

Seriously, I believe we will be treated to some new offensive plays we have not seen yet, and some sequential plays that will put tosu on their heels.

Like you, I think Tosh will dial up some blitz packages that will cause plenty of havoc and chaos for Howard and the tosu offense.

If OBD plays to The Standard, we will change the narrative.  My desire is to see the Ducks dominate the LOS on both sides of the ball.  It won’t be easy, but we have the talent to do so.

  5. THIS!

This is why FishDuck is the best fan forum there is.  Outstanding breakdown Charles, thank you.

The depth and insights you point out leads to fascinating discussion between the forum participants. I value the discussion and feedback your articles always generate.

I continue to be pleasantly amazed at some of the outstanding football minds that regularly post here. Some of the thoughts I read are similar to what I have been thinking, only more eloquently phrased.

While I have been somewhat anxious about the game, knowing we have not played anything close to the caliber tosu brings to the table, you remind me that they have not played anyone close to the caliber of OBD!

It is precisely this discourse that keeps this old greybeard coming back for more! Thank you Charles, and Go Ducks,

  6. Great ponder point David, bringing up great responses.

Thomas Tyner, great while played for the green and yellow, medically retired, then came back for a season with the Beavs.

Atticus Sappington, great Beavus, came to finish his collegiate career as a Duck.

I like to think of both as Ducks, but I know there are OBD fans who disagree.

    WHAT SAY YOU?

  7. I feel for you dude.  Losing a dad is tough.

The last game I watched with my dad was in 2019 when the Ducks thumped Montana 35-3.  He was 93, and we were able to have a wonderful visit while enjoying a Duck game together.

He passed on about two months before COVID hit, and I have always been grateful he didn’t have to experience any of that cr@p.
