  1. Well thought out article Charles, thank you!

I personally don’t see this defense regressing to a ‘bend don’t break’ mindset.  I think the dudes on this defense will take the mindset of “you ain’t getting squat.”

I think the defensive and the offensive will play like their hair is on fire each and every play and each and every player.  The offense will score points and the defense will reek havoc on any offense that tries to move the ball on them.

This defense is so loaded that the 3’s and 4’s will not be much of a let down from the 1’s and 2’s.  The resulting all out attack from fresh player for 4 quarters is going to suck the life out of opposing offenses!

That’s my hope and I’m sticking to it! Go Ducks!

  2. Thanks Charles for the reminder.  I predict the 2024/2025 rendition of OBD will run the table this year!

I have predicted this a few times before, both of Lanning’s first two (Nix) years, and even Mari-no-O’s last (Herbert) year.  While they did not quite achieve the lofty heights I was sure they would, I was proud of what they did do!

We have never seen as talented or as deep an OBD team as what will tear through their first year in the BIG! The pieces are in place, the coaching staff is on point, and the young men of Oregon are primed and pumped!

Bring it on INDEED!  Go DUCKS!

  3. So, I have been thinking (a dangerous concept, to be sure), that OSU really is no longer deserving of the name “little brother” which implies they are in the same family.

Little cousin doesn’t feel right either, as it implies a somewhat familial relationship.  Perhaps “obnoxious little neighbor kid” might be a better way to think of beavus going forward.

I leave it to you, the wise and ever-eloquent followers of OBD, to ponder a future reference to the thieving bark rats from corn valley!

I know you won’t let me down and I gleefully look forward to your suggestions!

  4. I also remember the feeling of dread as the purple mutts were marching down to make it a one score game.  The “Pick” turned the dread to elation!

The 94 season certainly changed the trajectory of both schools.  From 1964 to 1993 the Ducks were 8-17 against the mutts.  From 1994 to 2023 we were 20-8 against them!

For me though, it was the “Streak” from 2004-2015 that really signified the turning point. In the decade from 94 to 04 we were only up 6 game to 4.

Of the 19 regular season games since 2004, the Ducks have won 15!

  5. Good points Darren, thanks for posting!

One of the hidden costs has got to be physical and psychological stress factors related to constant and lengthy travel these athletes will be subject to.

Since school stress combined with athletic stress isn’t enough, let’s toss a whole bunch of flying time and hotel time at these kids, and see how they deal with it!

Time will tell, but I gotta think it will negatively affect young lives.

  6. A native Oregonian I too, grew up rooting for both schools, back when they both sucked big time on the gridiron.

I have family who attended both, and I actually had a warm spot in my heart for Beavus, right up until they shamelessly took the money they didn’t earn.

  7. Lots of good ideas bounce around here.  While the Civil War meant something in the past, that is no longer the case. The Ducks will continue to fly while the Beavs sink slowly into the mud around their den.

There is no bragging right that beavus is qualified to earn, unless it is with PSU.  If they want to play in Eugene, fine, otherwise strike them from the schedules moving forward.  They don’t deserve to play the Ducks.

  8. I could also do without the wave.  It is tired and weak.  Maybe half don’t participate.

i do like SHOUT in the break between 3rd and 4th quarters, but “comin back to the place that I was born” between the first and second quarters gets me every time!

I love the song and hearing fans join in gives me goose pimples (Duck bumps)!  Go Ducks and Go Autzen!
