My apologies, as I've been busy today and have not got to the Oregon Media Press Releases until now.  The Ducks are now one of 12 Semi-finalists for the Joe Moore Award for the nations best offensive line. I could not believe what I came directly from the committee below!

    From the JMA Committee:

"Man, these dudes out here on the West Coast are trying to hurt people’s feelings. Like it's personal to them. They play with a physicality and finish to them that is glorious to watch. They’ve become a JMA mainstay due to their steady play and ability to grind on teams in the run game."

"They look to punish and pile drive in pass pro, and display a level of physicality that is rare in today’s college game. Fun unit with the goods to advance, if not win it."

Wowsa. What you see above is something Brooks or Bellotti could not recruit to, and Cristobal could not develop or properly utilize. Such laurels from the people studying the offensive lines nationally? I have never read anything like that read about Oregon before...good gosh we have something special going on!

Below is the rest of the press release:

Oregon’s offensive line has been among the nation’s very best in 2023, leading the FBS with just four sacks allowed and tying for third with only 32 tackles for loss allowed. The Ducks are the nation’s top-graded pass-blocking team by Pro Football Focus at 89.7, while ranking second with a 94.2 rushing grade.

UO has picked up where it left off in 2022 – when the Ducks led the nation with just five sacks allowed – despite having to replace four starters on the offensive line. The O-line has set the tone for an offense that leads the nation in scoring (46.3 PPG), first downs per game (26.8) and fewest turnovers (4), while ranking second in total offense (540.0 YPG), yards per rush (6.16) and total yards per play (7.84).

Oregon has dominated the Joe Moore Award Pancake Block of the Week honor this season, with three different Ducks combining to win five times. Jackson Powers-Johnson has won three times, while Ajani Cornelius and Steven Jones each won it once. (Mr. FishDuck note--these pancakes are what is bringing the syrup!)

Powers-Johnson has been one of the nation’s elite centers in his first season as the starter, ranking second at the position with a 90.2 pass-blocking grade from PFF while leading Oregon with 31 total knockdowns. He also ranks fifth among all centers in overall grade (78.8) and sixth in run blocking (77.5).

Jones is the highest-graded pass-blocking guard in the Pac-12 at 90.9 by PFF, ranking fourth among all FBS guards.

As a team, Oregon has allowed just 30 quarterback hurries and 36 total pressures in 10 games. The Ducks are one of just 11 teams to start the same five players on the offensive line in every game this season.

What has stood out to me is how often I see Oregon linemen downfield bludgeoning the scrum forward. Not only are they moving the pile ahead for a few more yards, but they are inflicting obvious hurt on the defensive players, and they know it’s taking a toll.

Impressive and a joy to watch!

  2. IF we were not one of the best teams in the country, and IF we were not loading up with elite talent, and IF Bo Nix were not the front runner to win the Heisman, and IF we were not heading to the BIG, I MIGHT be slightly concerned with the A&M rumors.

As it is, not so much.

Go Ducks-the next one matters most!

  3. The sloppiness was a head scratcher. Definitely did not see that coming based on what we did the last couple of weeks.

Can we just chalk most of it up to kicking off at almost 8 o’clock?

Probably not. The silver lining is it’s hard to imagine this team with that performance going into Tempe with an over inflated sense of confidence!

Go ducks, make it work for you!

  4. Charles, thank you for perfectly diagramming what a novice (me) noticed in that opening drive! I was giddy with excitement for the rest of the game because of what transpired in the opening sequence. It seemed like Utah was waiting/hoping we’d transition from the pass weighted play calling (balanced!) towards the “win in the trenches” approach. We never did!

This coaching staff does indeed bring much more to the table than that. And with the playmakers they’ve assembled and a 5th year quarterback  completing almost 80% of his passes in total command of the offense, why would you go “phone booth”?

Thank you Mr Fishduck for bringing me back to that opening drive giddiness!

    Go Ducks!

  5. Got to believe that crap has already reverberated through the locker room. “Us against the world” works for me.

Who was that idiot celebrity they had on the set? If I ever see his ugly mug on a show, the show goes off. Going be nice to serve him a huge portion of humble pie.

Go Ducks! Play to your standard.

  6. Insanely long walks! Like maybe ten miles today. As an avid Duck fan living in Seattle, I’ve seen way too many husky dogs today (one is too many!)

But alas, I remind myself there are way more ducks flying around and we have far better athletes and the game is decided one play at at time through four quarters. And I conclude, “Relax, we’ve got this!”

    Go Ducks!

  7. This uni is ALL about the lid! Got some super hero stuff going on.That combo of wings (Brings to mind Apollos-whose role as the slayer of Python led to association with battle and victory) and the platinum (Brings to mind the Silver Surfer-who has the ability to project energy in various forms for offensive and defensive use) is a great look.

    Go Ducks-make ‘em hurt!

  8. I’m enjoying OBD forum in Seoul Korea this morning. When I glanced at the games on tap for this weekend I noticed Georgia is on a 22 game win streak. My thought was, “You don’t play and win that consistently without playing to your own standard.” Then, lo and behold, Mr Fishduck draws attention to DL’s mantra of playing to our standard! Couldn’t agree more.

    Grateful for OBD forum!

  9. There should be a YAS stat for the offensive line: Yards After Scrum. So satisfying to see our lineman downfield bullying the scrum forward for extra yards. Has to be demoralizing to the second level of the defense. On one play a couple of linemen pulled James the last 5 yards to the goal line. Athletic. Well coached. Bodes well for big games ahead.

When asked what he would do if Oregon State had been offered a chance at going to the B1G?  He indicated he would have stayed in the Pac-12, and "worked it out."

Oregon State would have gone in a heartbeat, and not felt the least bit bad about it.  In fact they would have considered it a double win....more money AND sticking it to Oregon!

The pathetic blaming of Oregon from Beaver fans is disgusting, and indicative of their nature.

Yeah, he said in his efforts to “work it out” he has had zero communication with Kliavkoff. Sounds like a hot mess, especially now that it appears Stanford is bolting for the ACC. Pass on a golden opportunity to join the Big for a chance to remain in that? Hmm, that doesn’t sound like good leadership.
