I just don't get all the controversy about this. To think that he was failed by Oregon is to assume he was a great, or potentially great, player who, for some reason no one can name, was denied a fair shot. Why would the coaches deliberately overlook a player who could improve the team?
This happens all the time; players are overrated, don't live up to potential, can't produce when the spotlight shines, whatever. It's nasty, but that's what competition is all about.

If Thompson lost out in the eyes of the coaches who have been watching him for three years, that’s harsh, but part of the cruelty of sports.
i truly wish him all the best somewhere else, and see zero evidence that he got shafted or was treated unfairly in Eugene.

David Marsh, I know exactly what you are thinking and feeling; great piece of writing. I've had to learn over the years to force myself, against my natural inclinations, to not let my emotional life hinge on a bunch of strangers over whom I have no control. It's been difficult, but I've gotten to the point where I'm not for days replaying the devastating losses on a doom-loop. It may cut down on the highs, but it certainly minimizes the lows.
