  1. I signed a NLI? I thought I was signing my NIL deal.
  2. Currently, there's a enormous money bubble that's inflating, among other things, big-time college football. When that bubble bursts, which is surely will, things will look much different. Different how I'm not smart enough to know, but what we have now is not sustainable.
  3. I look back fondly on the time when we had to worry only about what happened on the field.
  4. It seems like a lot of older coaches are leaving as the relentless, year-round grinding of the job only gets more intense and burns them out. Recruiting is a constant, and now NIL and the portal make it so coaches never really have time off. Is the really a quiet period any more? It may be that college coaching is getting to be a younger man's game, as the constant pressure takes a toll. Sure, they get paid a lot, but that's not all there is to a job. I suspect that right now is the time of maximum flux and uncertainty, and that somehow rules will be imposed on the portal and NIL that will make a coaches life a little easier, but it's a meat grinder of a job, being a big-time college football coach.
  5. If you want the Oregon brand to continue to work, you let the Nike designers have their way. They're the ones who developed the uniform thing, and they're the ones who are in touch with design trends. Sure, there were some uglies along the way, but Oregon uniforms have consistently been, by far, the best in the nation for years and years. This is what Nike does; let them keep doing it, and if throwbacks are the thing, go with it. Throwbacks don't do much for me, and I'm an old fart. I'd rather the uniforms appeal to the kids who want to play for Oregon, now and in the future, kids who were a long way from being born when the old uniforms were in use.
  6. Given the evidence from most all of Chip's post-Oregon career, I can't help but think he's past his sell-by date.
  7. "Advisory" group? Oh sure. The Big Ten and SEC form an 'advisory group' that feels like a takeover WWW.ON3.COM The Big Ten and SEC forming an 'advisory group' feels more about commissioners Greg Sankey and Tony Petitti reshaping college...
  8. It's appearing that neither DeBoer nor FIsch left behind much goodwill with their former programs. Nor does it seem much goodwill is awaiting them at their new rungs on the ladder.
  9. There's a Bluto quote in here somewhere.
  10. Here in Portland, spent 52.5 hours without power, with outside temperatures below 20 and a roaring wind. Really a drag. Now, we get ice this afternoon.
  11. It's a whole new world out there, and Paul Finebaum is not going to like it. I love it.
  12. For me, the best part of that video was Lanning saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) "college football is changing quickly, and we're ahead of the curve here". That...a thousand times that. Change, with respect for the past, is at the core of what Lanning brings to Oregon. Lanning is young enough to not be entrenched in the old way of coaching, recruiting, hiring, relating to players and families. He's media-savvy, extremely on-line, and good on tv. He is also honest, and modest. Maybe he kicks his dog, but I doubt it.
  13. But, Nick seems like such a jolly fellow to have hanging around.
  14. I say he ain't going to Tuscaloosa. And it will be yet another data point in the ongoing collapse of all the entrenched narratives about college football, about the so-called blue bloods, the top jobs, the path every coach must follow. There are now more places to succeed than the Paul FInebaum world view wants to acknowledge. Oregon is one of them and Lanning knows it. He has a place where he can create his own legacy, instead of having to live up to someone else's achievements. Alabama is no longer the holy grail; coaches can say thanks, but I've got my own deal going. So, I say Lanning is staying. Unless I'm wrong.
  15. I feel strongly that he's either going to take the Alabama job, or he's not. One of those two. For sure. And, I have inside sources for this.
  16. Good for him! Play football, live in N'awlins, eat great food, listen to fabulous music...everybody wins.
  17. Great news... Oregon WR Tez Johnson announces his return for 2024 season 247SPORTS.COM Oregon received more good news on Thursday morning with Tez Johnson coming back.
