  1. LOL! I think we all need to realize that ESPN and FOX have invested heavily in two conferences and want them to remain top dogs,
  2. Finebaum was born and raised in Tennessee. Worked as a sports reporter in Birmingham for many years. He then gained more prominence when he was hired by the SEC network. Is he biased? Probably more than just a little. Fox and ESPN have hitched their wagons to the B1G and SEC. In their estimation, every other conference is only good for extra content. Not really good for business if ACC, or PAC teams were to start winning championships on a regular basis. If they did, FOX and ESPN would have to pay more for their games. I don't think Fox and ESPN want to see the championship games played by two teams not in their preferred conferences very often.
  3. He was at camp, coaches saw him in action, so they know what they are getting. Like rooting for those kind of kids.
  4. Are there any decent college football programs on YouTube? Just watched an episode of the Monty Show and they seem to have a lot of hatred for the Pac 12. Is there any CFB programs on YouTube any of you recommend?
  5. When the Ducks went to the college football playoff, it wasn't because they had recruited all of the very best players. It was because they were creative and put in a lot of hard work. That is what the athletic department and university must do to succeed. They can not sit around and feel sorry for themselves. The situation they end up in in the near future may not be the most ideal, but creativity and hard work can go a long way towards closing the gap. They must get creative to find new ways to create revenue and continue to work hard to promote the brand. The Pac (insert number here) must do the same thing. During the Lavish Lifestyle Larry days of the Pac 12, I don't think we saw much creativity or hard work. For the rest of us, we just need to keep supporting the Ducks and try not to raise our blood pressure over things we can't control.
  6. Streaming or linear, one thing will remain true, the best teams are never ignored.
  7. I am not totally opposed to streaming. I remember when ESPN was available in fewer than 2 million homes in the United States. Times change and are changing. However, I would like to see the streaming service (whoever that is) offer at least one game a week free without paying a subscription fee. They could still make money by selling advertising on those games. I also hope the streaming service will advertise on linear TV to make people aware of the games and how they can be viewed.
  8. The board probably wants time to go over the details of the proposed deal before voting. Not voting today is not necessarily a bad thing or an indication that it was a terrible deal.
  9. The report might be true, but if that is what he is presenting, then I would say he is hoping to get fired so he can move on to a new job.
  10. Is Sanders a great coach? He did very well at Jackson State, but he also recruited way better athletes than his competitors. We will find out.
  11. I think the author kind of looks down on the Oregon receiver room. "Unlike crowded receiver rooms at Washington and USC, Franklin stands out as the Ducks’ top target." Franklin is an excellent receiver, but I think this season will show that the receiver room is not a one man show.
  12. It's OSU's own fault that they will end up with nothing but poor options. Even when they have a good season, they don't do anything to build off of it. They have never done much to build a brand. Even when they do land a good player, he ends up being unknown to most of the nation. Damien Martinez was Pac 12 offensive freshman of the year, but they have done nothing to promote him. Maybe they can't because of a lack of money, but sometimes you have to spend money to make money. I don't feel too sorry for them.
  13. Happy, I like your thinking. UNLV could also be a travel partner with Utah, but their football program is terrible. Boise and Utah could end up being a great rivalry because of closer distance, but other than football, I can't think of anything Boise is competitive in. If I was really dreaming, I would take Houston away from the Big12.
  14. The Pac-12 needs a culture shift WWW.COUGCENTER.COM The Pac-12 is an athletics conference, not an academic conference. Good read from the Cougar Center. "The presidents and chancellors deserve plenty of blame, too. Ultimately, they’re the ones in charge, approving Kliavkoff’s decisions and setting the pathways. The problem is, they need to get off the path they’ve been going down for years on end. The good news is they now have no other choice." I don't think the presidents and chancellors would agree. I have no confidence in them.
  15. Pac-12 Football: 10 expansion candidates should Pac-12 look to grow DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM In order to stabilize, it’s pretty clear that the Pac-12 Conference needs to expand. Here are some candidates for them to bring in. If you had to pick three who would they be? My picks... San Diego State - Best of what's left in Southern California. Good TV market. Southern Cal recruiting. SMU - Dallas. Huge TV market. I think they would be willing to invest for improvement. Ton of high school talent within 100 mile radius. UTSA - San Antonio is 7th most populated city in the United States and growing, 31st biggest TV market. One trip a year to Texas could help recruiting.
  16. Sometimes I feel like we are headed towards two major conferences: the ESPN conference and the FOX conference. I think much of the realignment we have seen over the past few years has been encouraged by the media.
  17. If I were the commissioner, the first thing I would do is negotiate with the Mountain West Conference. I would get them to release SDSU and possibly one other school in exchange for a guarantee that we would not raid their conference anymore and some scheduling perks, for example, playing more games in their stadiums. I would also enter into an athletic alliance with them (Western States Athletic Alliance?). We would remain separate athletic conferences, but we would negotiate media rights together. They would not get the same level of payout as we would, but both conferences should be able to increase their media deals, because together they would have a near monopoly of football and basketball inventory in the Western United States. I would then concentrate my further expansion efforts in Texas. Would this work, or am I crazy? What would you do if you were in charge?
