Can We Chat About the QB Position at Oregon?
The Grateful Duck replied to Signoramous's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Generally, whoever wins the QB competition will have the skill set to maintain the present trajectory for this team. And that the 2 older players have the upper hand, imo. Whether the loser of that competition leaves the program sooner/later or not at all is a part of the coaching staff's assessment of the present QB room. Remember, they aren't just stacking talent for now but also for future contingency. Not all the room is going to leave when a starter is named, right? -
Can We Chat About the QB Position at Oregon?
The Grateful Duck replied to Signoramous's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I agree with this statement. The coaches obviously feel confident that they have the QB they need/want in house. And I trust this coaching staff, re: assessment and willingness to provide competition as necessary for every group on the team. -
From a somewhat non-biased viewer, it was a good game to watch because how close/tight it was until the 4th. Personally, I think the Buckeyes played pretty sloppy and Ewers played better than I expected until he returned to form in the 4th. If the Buckeyes had played a less-penalized game, the result would've become clear in the 1st half instead of the 4th. And Howard did not have his best game. Yet, the Buckeyes still won. Sometimes grinding it out is the best a team can do. Hopefully, the A game returns for the Irish...we can hope!

No matter the reason(s), that sucked. I'm still marginally butthurt. And to make matters personal, a nephew who happens to be a Beaver believer made some nasty comments about the outcome and the Ducks after the game. Let's say I went "nuclear" in response. I really wasn't too upset about the game, since it was clear the Ducks were outmatched at the Rose bowl, but I have no patience for bad "winners" in any context. I let him have it in no uncertain terms, even after he said he was joking. Joking? Really, dude? You're not gonna man up? Haters are gonna hate and that was low, imo. Don't have the patience for such b.s. And, tbh, I don't think I'm gonna find the "christian" in me to forgive. Maybe sometime?

Crazy to Pick Bo in the 1st Round, Right?
The Grateful Duck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
As a Commanders fan, Mariota saved our day, though in retrospect, the day didn't need saving after the Bears put a dagger into the Packers at Lambeau. In any case, Mariota showed he still has value as a serviceable NFL qb. I doubt he'll be in D.C. next year, unfortunately. Veteran qb's rarely stay put unless the situation, for playing time or financial, is conducive to their short-term plans. As Duck fans can attest, Jayden Daniels is a gamer.... -
I enjoyed every game today. I'll never complain about more CFB games. Also, there are blowouts during the regular season, too. Sometimes unexpectedly. Some days it's just not your day.... I wasn't disappointed at all and for the most part, the results were not that surprising given the quality of the teams playing.

(Not so) Bold prediction: Trojan wire will write a mid-season (complaint) article about Bear turning his narrative around after looking like an all conference d-lineman and possible early round NFL pick next year. The talent is there, but defensive coaching (and holding players responsible for performance) at SC is minimal at best. If Bear wants to f*** around, he'll do it on the bench if not from his living room couch.

NEW...B1G LAUGHS! Gotta Have Some Fun...
The Grateful Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
A relaxing Saturday of CFB and some great posts. Thanks Mr. FD. -
TheOSU 27 theOtherUT 17 Chip learns: to call some pass plays; that not all runs need to go into the teeth of the defense; & to let his elite players beat their elite players. Plus it's cold...SEC teams can't play in the cold, even if it's not actually cold (one of the 10 commandments of CFB). Finally, Ryan Day's sphincter muscles get relaxed and he oddly calls out Lou Holtz in another ecstatic rip-rap after-game comment.

I loathe the SEC. Granted, it has produced some awesome teams but not every SEC program/team is created equal. Alabama has been pretty magnificent during the Saban years and I think DeBoer will get his footing in a year or 2. Obviously, Georgia is more recently a great program under Kirby. And then the Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, etc., mini- dynasties break up the monotony of Saban-led dominance. Impressive...as far as it goes. But Vandy, Mississippi State, Kentucky, and the bottom-feeding ilk ride the coattails, year after year, with an occasional good team but not (consistently) great team/program. So yeah, I'm not rooting for that marginally-overrated conference down south. Where it means more...because there's nothing else can give them meaning BUT college football. Those of us out west know that for the better part of 3 decades, the PAC has had some great teams, all of which are not always SC Trojans. Utah, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, UCLA, OSU, WSU, Arizona, ASU, Cal (sorry Buffs, y'all were pretty pathetic as PAC members) have all split time as good to great programs out west. No, I'm not rooting for the SEC in any way shape or form. If not the Ducks, I'll be rooting for the fighting Dillies, the Smurfs, the upstart Cigs, the nasty Nits (I've been told on another site that the Nittany Lions don't like that nickname), and/or the naughty Nuts. No, to Clemson, the Vols, the Longhorns, or the (GA) Dawgs. SMU? Well, before these others....

I want all the SEC teams to lose. Every single one of them, whether the Ducks get the chance to be one of the victors or not. Ergo, I'm rooting for the Buckeyes. Round 2 goes to the Ducks. OBD left (possible) points out on the field in the first game. The Ducks have shown 13 ways of winning and I expect 14 to be next. And that's just the first of 3.... The Ducks are hoisting a(nother) trophy! The 1st champion of the playoff era(s).

Oregonian OBD Fans: A Question?
The Grateful Duck replied to The Grateful Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I have also lived in Corvallis. I enjoyed my time there, especially Squirrels. Also some late nights at the Peacock...maybe I drank the Kool-aid? -
I grew up in southern Oregon, I've been a Ducks fan since I can remember. My mom and dad grew up near Eugene/Springfield and my mom was a Daisy Duck. Yet... I have 3 solid Beaver fans (that I know of) in my immediate family as well. I've had to wear Beaver gear for a month after Duck losses in the Civil War. I still occasionally wear the Beaver gear because I'm indifferent to Beaver hate. Am I considered disloyal to OBD? (Under no circumstances would I wear purple. We have purple napkins which I refuse to use. I hate the Huskies! And I live in the greater Seattle metroplex. It sucks!) My question: are there other homegrown Duck fans like me or am I really a pariah, at best a platypus?

I don't care about Pig2 hate. An Oregon school moves on. Through adversity and a great Irish team, beans move on!

Should Oregon Play Osu Every Season?
The Grateful Duck replied to HDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yes. A yearly Beaver beatdown to remind them of their status. And yes to beatdowns in Reser too. They need to suffer and suffer in the "best" way imaginable: Beaver beatdowns, home and away! And I'm not at all about firing Rob. He seems to have good relations with coach Lanning. Is there info out there saying he's not liked by coaches? I'm not privy.... -
Not to mention their failures on the field. They certainly thought they had more value than they actually did. They were not wanted by any of their other supposed P5 peers when push came to desperation.

Rob Mullens: Is it Sloth or Apathy?
The Grateful Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Jon. Your wisdom is matched by your knowledge. And perhaps by your loyalty to OBD. We definitely share that passion. Thanks for your time and insight. Someday, I hope, these "Beaver difficulties" will be behind us and we can just focus on the games being played. Legalese is not my register nor my lane. I'll leave to that wiser souls. Cheerio. -
Rob Mullens: Is it Sloth or Apathy?
The Grateful Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Good afternoon, Jon. Thanks for your respectful response. I'm afraid that I've unintentionally disrespected you and others who might take umbrage with my "moving on" position. I'll leave it at that. To all fellow OBD fans, I apologize for my post. I've unintentionally crossed the threshold of fishduck posting acceptability. And for that I'm sorry if my words hurt anyone. Good day all and goodnight... -

The Grateful Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm glad they're still playing. And if OBD buries then in the dirt so much the better. Personally I've moved on. It's one less thing that's not all that important in my personal day to day to get my goat. I know there's enough that boils my blood more directly relevant to my well being than either the Beavs or the Cougs. -
Heavy Hangover for Salty Gamecock Fans...
The Grateful Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The "great" SEC went 1 - 3 yesterday. No. The refs did not give the Ducks that game. The Ducks played great defense, were efficient in both steals and turnovers, played tough on the interior, rebounded well on both sides of the court, and Cousinard had the game of his life. Sour grapes must be the only grapes they have in South Carolina. Next?
