  1. The sky isn't falling. Yet. But after the close win over Idaho, it is teetering. A lot of my concern is who the Ducks are playing this Saturday. So far, Boise State does OWN Oregon, 3-0. How Oregon is favored by 19.5 makes no sense. To win this game, the players are going to have to own the field, and Lanning is going to have to be right on every decision. If the Ducks had handled Idaho as they were expected to. the tension level of this game would be a lot lower. Losing to Georgia didn't cause any hang wringing. But Idaho isn't Georgia, so there's more pressure on the second game of this season than any I can remember.
  2. Oh yes, the one that, "could have gone either way"
  3. "...learn from winning!" is definitely better than from losing.
  4. I agree, for now, But for Oregon to get where they want to be, I feel that has to change. Champions don't play under the radar. They take the sling and arrows and control the narrative.
  5. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
  6. Definitely comparable, and if the Ducks go on and finish 11-1, prophetic. The difference I see is that the Beavers, in their second season under Dennis Erickson weren't expected to do much better than the 7-5 of 1999. The Ducks however have much loftier expectations. First poll has them at No.3; definitely a playoff contender, if not, winner. A Heisman contender at quarterback. That team had no business pulling out a win against Idaho.
  7. For the most part the talk today has been about the now disturbing win for USC over LSU, or Clemson's feeble effort against Georgia. Oregon's near stumble against Idaho has barely been mentioned. Is that because nobody is worried about it, or is it that Oregon isn't relevant anymore?
  8. It would be anyway, but with the struggle against Idaho after all the pre-season hype, this, the second game of the season, against a non-conference foe is as important a game as Lanning has had as Oregon's coach. Failure is not an option.
  9. I agree the defense was good against Idaho. But it was Idaho. The O-Line was the biggest problem, and the offense won't score 24 against any of the teams left on the schedule if it performs like that again.
  10. Idaho was one thing, Boise State, 3-0 against Oregon is another thing entirely. Oregon Ducks Big Favorites vs. 'Best Player In Country'? Meet Boise State RB WWW.SI.COM EUGENE - The Oregon Ducks host the Boise State Broncos in Week Two of the 2024 college football season. The Ducks are...
  11. After watching the Buffs sneak out W against N. Dakota St. I was giddy! All this applause for Prime, after that? This is a team with two Heisman and top 5 picks on it, and they struggled to beat the Bison? Then the Ducks game happened. Clemson didn't look good at all, but they were playing Georgia. Washington beat Weber St, 35-3. Most of the top teams did exactly what they were supposed to do.
  12. I tend to agree that the D wasn't at fault, albeit they were playing Idaho. Boise State is a different type of spud. 3-0 against Oregon, not intimidated at all by Autzen, and very physical. We better hope the Broncos don't approach 267 yards on the ground as a team, let alone one player, against the Ducks.
  13. Watching USC beat LSU was scary. The score was close throughout, but SC was in control the whole game. Putting even a competent defense along with SC's perennial high-powered offense makes USC a true contender for the BIG Championship, the Trojans don't play either the Buckeyes or the Ducks. As for the Ducks? The O Line controls every, if it isn't working, nothing else will either. It's incredible that Gabriel was able to put up the stats he did, imagine what he will be able to do with time to throw. It would be too depressing to look back to find a worse day for the running game, suffice it to say that if that happens again, the Ducks won't win.
  14. The Huskies game against Eastern Michigan is on the BIG10 Network.
  15. It's hard for me to remember a first game where everything that is said about first games came true. Oregon did seem pretty vanilla, probably didn't take Idaho seriously and really did escape a huge loss. Now all they have to do is beat a much better Boise State team, who will be full of confidence. This is a step in coaching that Lanning wasn't expecting' He better not trip. Lanning can't go ballistic on the team, they have to play with confidence and be in the No think, just do, mode. Big improvement is expected in week 2, the Ducks will be at home and need to take control of the game early. It was great that against Idaho, the Ducks D handled a 3rd & long, which has often been a challenge for them. If the Ducks can have a productive week of practice, come together, they should beat Boise State.
  16. So, the Ducks miss the cover over Idaho by about 5 touchdowns, Boise State goes on the road, wins by 11and have yet to lose to the Ducks, and it's Oregon -19.5? I understand that lines are set to be adjusted, but this one needs a chiropractor.
  17. "Prevent Offense" was not in effect against Florida, who might not be very good, but Miami looked sharp and are most likely the best of the ACC. I can't work up a real hate for Mario, though it's believed indifference is actually a more severe feeling.
  18. It certainly made yesterday's game more awkward, especially after Desmond and Herbie picked the Ducks to win the Natty. Now a BIG test comes up next week against a team the Ducks are o-fer against.
  19. The bright side is that while Oregon didn't play well, they still won. This happens. The Ducks can't brush it aside, but in a few weeks, we can look back go, whew.
  20. The Blazers started out hot, then cooled down. But they have been the most enjoyable Blazers team in years. I actually watch entire games! Lillard has been out which doesn't help. But, aside from Milwaukee, there really isn't a dominant team. I believe that if Lillard can come back, and stay back, these Blazers could be a playoff team.
  21. Interesting question. When LSU won the Natty, he was a great QB, but I don't know how much Coach O had to do with it. Kirby Smartt and Stetson are a great combo at Georgia., but QB's aren't a huge part of Smartt's resume'. Chip had great success with very different QB's, Thomas, Mariota. It's easier to see where a coach might not be getting it right with a QB, maybe that guy who coached at Oregon before Lanning?
  22. Now, just saying he's the best RB they have faced isn't giving Charbonnet enough credit. As Anthony Newman would say, 'the guy is a dude!'
  23. Harvey Winn, a Duck legend for sure. Another back up QB, who did a great job in LA, Tony Graziani leads the Ducks to a win over the Trojans, 22-7, Oct.1, 1994., the first win for the Ducks over the Trojans in the Coliseum since the Harvey Winn win.
  24. Great article. At first glance it wouldn't seem like there would be a lot of great memories involving UCLA football, but one of my all time favorite Oregon wins was one I didn't see, only hears, and it was before Jerry Allen, Ducks down by 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter come back to win, 41-40. More recently,1995, Oregon leads UCLA, 38-31, time is running out,
