Is CFB a game of momentum or not? If it is then bad calls by refs can certainly affect the outcome of games. If not...

Each of the hits were noted by announcers during the game telecasts, including in last week’s game against Washington, but the conference has declined to comment publicly.

Pretty much have to call bs on the helmet to helmet involving Bo last week... Bo was obviously down when the the defender came in well after he was down... leading with the helmet!

That has been one of the main points that has been emphasized for several years.

Can't wait for a (hopeful) upgrade in the B1G, but that would require their newly acquired PAC 12 contingent being sent for remedial education, would it not?

  2. Remember Ronnie Lee being the torture tester for Nikes foray into basketball gear?

BTW, I was class of '71 on the hill as well!

I remember Russ Francis trying for a tip in on the basketball court and repeatedlly bouncing the ball off the bottom of the rim multiple times in succession before either scoring or sttling for a rebound. No lack of effort there!

DL may have a bit of a stubborn streak. How else can you explain him making the same mistake 2 years in a row against the same team.

I am glad the Ducks extended Dan. He has upgraded the talent on this team to the point that the Ducks are capable of competing against anyone.

But he is an inexperienced head coach…..and it is showing. This is only his 2nd year as a head coach. I am making an assumption that after a few more years on the job, hopefully very few, he will not make the same boneheaded calls that cost us two wins against the Huskies.

How did Saban or Smart look at this point in their careers?

"Methinks thou dost protest too much."

I am as disappointed in the outcome as anyone, but we are going to have a few growing pains, and if CDL can keep this transport on the right trajectory, he could definitely prove to be Mr. Right... Just maybe not Mr. Right NOW! (How's that for a mixed metafor?)

No, but you will see them on the feet of my nephew who lives in St. Paul, MN.  Don't ask me why he loves the Ducks so much but he does. His dad is Mn born and so is he.  But (lucky for him) his mother was born in Coos 'Bay.

My Granddaughter in Tennessee Is sporting Duck gear on a regular basis... and her Mom went to Illinois.

  5. It's a familiar OLD refrain, is it not?

I don't remember (Pardon my synaptic dysfunction, if I'm wrong... I AM 70) a time in the social media era when this was not the general tone of most posts from the befuddled fuskies.

BTW, is this still common practice?

  6. Yup, Happy. I see your point.

Few years ago, my wife went in for "routine cataract surgery"... during the last pre-op exam our surgeon spotted something under that shook our world in ways no college football game has any comparison to.

She eventually lost the eye, after 3 years of treatment. The doctor found it, again, during what they thought was to be the final, triumphant, exam... looking back now, the surgery that scared us silly was the real triumph.

Thankfully , this time they got it right!

Those kind of victories are so far beyond the scope of any athletic event.

Sitting here sharing the joy of following OBD is a bonus we should cherish FWIW.

The fact we get to share it with those around us is the cherry on top!

BTW, my wife's name happens to be Cherri.

    She loves OBD, too!

Let's celebrate our shared privilege and opportunity on this forum.

It's up to us to make it work!

I have been pleasant surprised about the improvement of the Ducks Defense this year. I confess, I had my reservation about that side of the ball heading into the season. Wanting to quantify their improvement, I looked up where they rank nationally for the following categories:  yards/play, sacks, and turnovers.

These are the following top defense for yards/play:

    1) UCLA  3.75 (4 games)

    2) Penn St.  3.79 (5 games)

    3) Oregon  4.02 (5 games)

Last season, Oregon gave up 5.8 yards/play for the entire year.

Concerning sacks, Oregon has 18 through 5 games. That ranks 8th nationally, which places them behind, among others, USC's defense. Yeah, you read that right...USC has 19 sacks. I imagine USC numbers are a result of their opponents abandoning the run in order to keep pace with their offense, allowing the defense to pin their ears back and get after the quarterback. Last year, it took Oregon 13 games to amass 18 sacks.

Regarding turnovers, Oregon has only forced 6, which ranks 77th. At that rate, it will be tough to reach the 21 turnovers created by last years unit.

If they can get after Penix next weekend, it might be time to refer to that side of the ball as Gang Green.

I was trying to re-live the glory days of Gang Green, and this is what I found:

Not quite as catchy as more recent Ducky anthems, but that'll do!
