How About the Offense Pulling Out the Long-Balls?
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
There will be plenty of opportunities going forward. Oregon has faster recievers than many pac-12 secondaries and there needs to be the confidence on Dillingham's part to call for some more deep shots. I was actually pretty impressed with his throw towards Cota when he needed to get the ball out fast. If it was a split second later it would have been caught... Granted it couldn't be a split second later because.of pressure but it was darn close. -
The couger offense continues to be a bit weird and difficult to prep for when you only have a week to do so. Oregon's secondary took some big hits today and hopefully they make another leap.

Dilly is ALMOST Averaging 40 Points a Game!
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Hey now... Players just don't get Cristobal's culture and how they aren't playing physical enough. If they just played more physical they would have won. -

Dilly has some work to ensure we actually punch the ball in. But I feel this coaching staff is learning quickly. It's also more fun to learn after a win than a loss... But you need to be aware that you learn the right lessons. -
I would agree with this. I knew what play was coming the second I saw Dollars in motion. Mauigoa knew also and bit down on it hard. If nix went anywhere else with the ball it could have been a touch down.

It felt like in the red zone Dillingham was possessed by Cristobal with predictable run plays. Though if Cristobal was busy possessing our OC why didn't Miami win?

Again MC has the excuse this year he needs "his guys" and they need to get players to buy into the culture. But you know what ... Players are probably starting to buy out of the culture at this point and buy into the transfer portal. Especially the QB and those recievers.

Oregon got the win but in the end winning by 3 feels more appropriate than winning by 10. I don't feel the Ducks earned winning by 10. That said... I'm happy we at least won.

GameDay Thread! Oregon vs. Washington State

And in previous games they haven't done much either. -
GameDay Thread! Oregon vs. Washington State

The big question this week was can this young coaching staff travel. It isn't over yet but so far Oregon on the road is very different than Oregon at home. Need to turn it around in the second half and get some points and play some solid defense. On defense we have been saved the last two drives by penalties that gave us the edge. -

Need some big time adjustments. Need the defense to lock down a bit better. And the offense needs to finish these plays big time. -

There's that darn play again where WSU they cut right down the middle for a big chunk. -

Need to see some significant second half adjustments for the red zone. We should have 21 points. -

I haven't liked the play calling inside the ten. Running right where WSU wants us to. -
Agreed USC making the playoff doesn't help the PAC but actually hurts us. USC at this time is basically a B1G team because they are leaving. So them making the playoff does nothing for the conference, yes a bit of money for the rest of us but that is a short term gain. I say we want the Beavers to win so the beavers can become ranked and we get a chance to beat another ranked team this year.

I read a few years ago when the recruiting violations news dropped that the info was leaked by someone either inside the program or just left the program. Basically... It was some very specific information as to where to "find the bodies" that only someone with inside knowledge of the program would know. But in typical NCAA fashion they have been very very slow to actually investigate.

I'm rooting against the LA schools until they leave the PAC and even then I'm still rooting against them. I'm not as anti beaver as many here. I overall want them to win 11 of 12 games a year. We all know which game they must lose. Also with this new format for the conference championship game it would be fun to see Oregon v.Oregon state for a rematch of sorts for the whole championship. Arguably one of the best meetings was 2009 in the "War for the Roses" where the winner determined who went to the Rose Bowl. That sort of rivalry is fun and even more satisfying when we win. I also just want as many Trojan tears as possible.

We've had four years of Cristobal unnecessary nail biters. Do those count towards our average and our due? I want to see a dominant performance and a kinda boring 4th quarter with a Ducks win.

If it is designed correctly there is no reason why there can't be a playoff within a super conference. Something like drop a non-conference game for all teams in the super conference (maintain whatever the agreed upon number of conference games or just drop a conference game for this special end of season game.) then at the end of the year make that semi-final conference championship game that originally dropped non-conference. Then the two winners of those two games will play in the Conference Championship game. As for the rest of the teams that have an extra game... that last week of games you have cross conference games between the Pac and Acc ... something like the No. 3 team from both conferences play each other along with the No. 4 team and so on. This would make for some interesting games across the board for these teams. This way there isn't any additional games to add stress to the schedule because part of that conference playoff takes place during the actual season.

But the Huskies haven't put the conference at risk like the LA schools. I wouldn't care as much if I knew the path forward for Oregon I might feel differently. I just want to see the LA schools lose as much as possible. If it is possible that both UCLA and Washington lose in the same game I would take that. But everyone losing doesn't seem to be an option.

The sad thing was that many of those replacements were upgrades! Moorhead is a better OC than Arroyo. But he was handcuffed and couldn't install his actual offense. DeRuyter has a fantastic track record as a DC but there was some problem in the development of players, especially in the secondary. Looking at Cristobal's Miami defense to date it seems to struggle with many of the same problems his defenses had the past few years at Oregon. So he is probably meddling on the defensive side of ball as well.
-
And I'm rooting for the Beavers to win... I want the LA schools to lose as much as possible this year more than ever. I may even root for the Huskies (vomits in mouth a little) when they play UCLA this year.

For another year with the fans because he can call it a rebuild and the fans can live with it... again we bought into the idea that Cristobal just needed his guys and that wasn't entirely true. He had plenty of talent from previous coaching staves and didn't use it to their full ability. Those paying Cristobal's paychecks might oddly enough be slightly more patient with his results because they can't afford to get rid of him. Also... Cristobal is a pro at winning the off season. Some coaches will leave and Cristobal will manage to hire new ones that get the fan base psyched. He will score recruiting wins and win the fan base over again because he is a very good recruiter. And then the season will come around again and fans will get frustrated ... that is until the off season when the whole cycle starts again.

Will This Young Team Struggle on the Road? (Are They Young?)
David Marsh replied to Duck 1972's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Difficult to say because of how the COVID year messed with eligibility. Sewell is a sophomore because his real freshman season in 2020 didn't count. I think there are vets who know how to travel and youngsters who don't. I think the real challenge is to ensure everyone travels well and is focused. That is on the coaches who are all young and haven't done a lot of leading that focus. They have all been apart of teams who have traveled well and know how to do it in theory but can they do it in practice? We'll find out.
