  1. The scary part is, they have played some good defense but they’re still struggling to defend the 3 point line when they’re in the matchup. When they tighten that up and are more consistent on the slide under the picks they will beat most teams they play. Well that and they need to snap out of their current shooting slump but that will happen soon. GO DUCKS!
  2. I haven't had time to watch the game yet, but I can tell you that our defensive pressure won the game. I said a while back that when everything else goes south the thing that will keep you in a game when everything else is falling apart is your defense. The girls KG has recruited get that even though most were the best players offensively on their team they were, in part, recruited for their ability to play smothering defense. Just like in football, the key to winning games with your defense is and always will be-pressure, pressue and more pressure on the other team and wearing them out physically and most importantly mentally which causes mistakes. I hope Mr D will bring that to our football team's defense as well. Looking forward to seeing our defense from the WSU game. GO DUCKS!!
  3. I think Byrne would be an excellent pick. Get the headquarters out of SF asap!
  4. That's great. What took so long? Guy was the definition of "in over his head."
  5. Well I believe he is an early enrollee so he will get the benefit of a top not training table and workout schedule as well as getting to peruse the playbook and make adjustments to college level football and the rain. I think he will fill that as yet empty pair of shoes nicely. The only question is when, not will he? GO DUCKS!!!
  6. This is going to be a really tough game for our ladies. Washington State has a bunch of wide bodies who love to bump, push, shove, slap and grab. IF the "pac-12" referees let them do to us what they did in Pullman we're in for a long night. One of the very few criticisms I have of some of the Ducks this year is toughness, mental and physical. Interested to see how they bounce back from that forgettable performance in the desert. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall at practices this week. I'm sure Mr. Nonchalant had their full attention! GO DUCKS!!!
  7. If it's fair he'll be in the top 3. Hamilton and Ball are in the mix.
  8. That's rule #2. Rule #1 is "make sure your bag is the biggest and has a large red A on the side."
  9. As long as she can do the job, great! They need some new blood.

  11. I thought about the whole 400 snaps thing and that doesn't include how many he had in practice with the #1 center. How many snaps has AB had with the starters? Again tends to suggest to me that Shough is a practice QB and Brown is a "gamer". It also tends to enforce for me the inability of the coaching staff a couple years ago to let Shough get meaningful snaps at the end of games where Herbert had NO business being in the game unless they were trying to get more style points hoping to be included in the CFP, which is a pretty closed club of late. Who knows, had Shough had a few hundred more snaps in real games maybe he would have been enough better and comfortable enough to beat the beevers among others. Again, just my 2 cents, just trying to expose more food for thought.
  12. Brown - I've heard rumors he's transferring but nothing yet. Also heard MC talked him into staying. #1 if he stays Thompson - He comes in with super high expectations. Probably like Herbert's rookie year if Brown goes in the portal. I truly hope he can challenge for the starting QB but time will tell. Probably #1A or 2 Shough - I am not a fan at all. Panics under the slightest pressure. He's a serviceable stop gap against weaker teams but I'd like to see him in the portal. #3 Butters - Good arm but not real mobile probably #3 or 4 Ashford - Maybe he could run some wildcat because at 6'5 225 he is a big dude. Probably #4 or 5 or switches to TE? Millen - likely transfers or switches positions What do y'all think. If this has already been discussed just delete it Mod(s)
  13. I've learned over the years not to drink the green Kool Aid over recruiting and preseason rankings. This team has some real issues and hopefully this year was exactly what we thought, a free year of practice and time for our younger guys to get experience. Next year we're supposed to have some really gifted athletes on our team but they will be young and competing against people who are just as good as they are for the first time. We're also going to have a new D coordinator and probably a new O coordinator and some people leaving, as well so there will be a lot of adjustments for everyone. My best guess is that next years team will start slow (until a QB talented enough to be on a top ten team emerges) with all the newness, but I'm hoping that they will come together and play up to their (dare I say it?) Potential. I'm hoping for a full season not ravaged by the Covid issues. IF that happens I can see this team going 8-4 to 10-2 during the regular season and winning a bowl game. I have a friend who was very close to the USC program when they were recruiting all those 4 & 5*'s and he said that was the problem. A bunch of pampered prima donna"s who couldn't play together, were not very coachable and didn't really have the heart of a motivated 3* with a chip on his shoulder trying to prove to the world that he could play too. I saw some of that on last years team, with all the preening and celebrating on run-of-the mill plays and a bit of a me-me-me attitude. Hope I'm wrong and the coaches can fix that because IT AIN'T THE X'S AND O'S ITS THE JIMMY'S AND JOE'S.
  14. I hope he does well in JAX. Why you say? Because I live 65 miles from Jacksonville and I hate the Falcons and Buccaneers so I'd like to be able to go root for a team here in the south. Full disclosure: I'm a Packers fan and now a Chargers fan as well...
  15. At this point I'd say Dugalic. Her rebounds per minute are the best on the team. She runs the floor well, can pass and has range from 3. Experience is all she needs. I'd suggest her and Sedona rotate until Sedona gets her strength/conditioning up to par. I can clearly see a front court of Prince, Sabally and Dugalic in the near future. Watson and maybe Giomi to spell them. Boley off the bench to throw bombs for instant momentum, and our gaggle of guards to sort themselves out.
  16. I would ask for patience. Yes they are 5* recruits, but as I've said before, they are all used to being the best player on the court in high school, but this is obviously another level indeed! I still think this team will make a good run in the madness kerfuffle.
  17. In regards to a starting 5. Right now if we're playing a team that goes big, 3 forwards and 2 guards, I would go with three guards and two forwards and try to speed up the game with a full court press and aggressive run outs off of defensive rebounds. In that instance my starters would be Pao Pao, Shelley/Chavez (tough to pick between these two, but I think Shelley is better off the bench so far) and Mikesell with Sedona and Sabally at forward. If we start getting beat on the boards then /Boley Dugalic comes in for Chavez/Mikesell leaving who has a hot hand in the game. If we're playing a team that goes small, 3 guards and 2 forwards, I'd start Pao Pao, Chavez, Boley, Prince and Sabally. I think this team could run with an opposing small lineup in addition to outrebounding them. I would rank who plays the most minutes roughly along these lines-nothing in stone, just what I've seen so far. Sabally, Bolely, Paopao, Mikesell, Prince-20-25 mpg. These ladies are my starters going forward, unless Boley is having one of her rare cold streak games-10-15 mpg. Chavez, Parrish, Dugalic, Shelley and Watson. 15-20 mpg. Love this lineup and with some experience will be a force as a second unit against almost everybody else's second unit. Chavez would come in when Boley is struggling, Scherr when any of these five are struggling. Scherr, Giomi and Wilson-5-10 mpg and to get minutes as needed or in case of blow outs. Scherr really needs more minutes. Giomi can be effective at times but she is also not real strong and loses a lot of balls in scrums for rebounds because of that. Wilson is a work in progress. I would give whomever is playing the best defense the benefit of the doubt where in other areas players are about equally talented. Coach Graves has 10-12 players he can get good minutes out of in most games. Good problem to have. Just my 2 cents. As always, GO DUCKS!!!
  18. I finally had a chance to watch the game and a few things jump out at me. First I thought the women had turned a corner after destroying Cal. Hate to use "youth" as an excuse but, we are a pretty young team. Our inability to break and finish against a press was a shock to me. Either they're not getting the message or they don't have that killer instinct yet. When you attack a press you will inevitably get the numbers in your favor as soon as you defeat a double team with the dribble or a pass. You have to attack all the way to the basket with numbers in your favor and then pass off for usually a lay in off of positive numbers. I was disappointed with Pao Pao and her inability to dribble/pass break the press by Arizona. If you don't attack all the way to the hoop and settle for lazy cross court passes under pressure you get turnovers. Enough said. Second, our beloved ladies couldn't throw a beach ball into the ocean if they were waist deep in salt water. It happens, but the whole team having a massive shooting slump in the same game was unexpected. It happens, especially on the road against a good team. Give AZ credit, they played suffocating defense and helped along by a head scratching differential between the amount of fouls called against the home team and the exact same calls not being made at both ends of the floor didn't help. Every time the Ducks made a small run and were in position to get the lead down to 2-4 possessions, a momentum swinging 50/50 call seemed to rear it's head. KG needs to get a technical once in awhile to wake his team up and send a message to the refs that he isn't pleased with the questionable calls. And the Pac-12 needs to hire some college level referees for the women's games! Our defense was lazy. This shocks me as they have played great defense so far. Our free throw shooting needs to be improved. I get it that Kelly is still looking to get his young players time on the court, but by doing that in a game like this, wasn't effective. Frustration is a powerful thing and I kind of expect that from the freshmen, but was disappointed to see in in Boley, Mikesell, Chavez and Shelley and a little bit in coach G. On the bright side, Sedona is back and needs to get into shape and sinc with her teammates. The team fought back and never seemed to give up even with everything going against them. There will be a lot of video to watch and a lot of coachable moments to learn from. I would let the team watch the whole thing without saying a thing if I was Coach G and then let the ladies kind of dissect it themselves. Then I would destroy the video and never speak of it again and move on. This team has everything and just needs to get more experience and confidence. I still expect us to compete evenly later in the year. The time to set a rotation is here. Put your 5 best out there and let them play. Sub in one at a time and go with a 10 player rotation. Get Sedona involved again and play defense and attack the full court press all the way to the rim. All the other teams noticed our struggle with that and you can bet they will be pressing us until we break it as we certainly are capable of doing. I would break up my practice into 4 areas for the week to come (in no particular order). Free throw shooting. Breaking a press (man and zone variations of this) shooting the basketball from deep and mid-range especially is lacking. Passing the ball instead of dribbling, with exception of getting deep penetration before passing in a press-break situation without trying to dribble break a double team and going to get the pass instead of waiting for it to come to you, ouch! Was it a train wreck? Yes. Was it indicative of how this team will play? No! I still stay the future is bright but we are a bit spoiled by what we're used to. This team will grow into their potential and I can't wait to watch it! GO DUCKS!!!
  19. Some random thoughts. Paopao is going to be an all-American before she goes to the WNBA. Kelly Graves is giving all his ladies a chance to get minutes and develop their game. This will be crucial a little farther down the road as he will have 10 players who can function together no matter who is on the court. We don’t need specific rotations right now as they need to learn each other’s game. I have been critical of Boley in the past but she has stepped up her game to the point where she still positively contributes even when she’s having a rough game shooting as streak shooters tend to have every so often. One of the areas of improvement that I’ve noticed which will really start to show soon is the attacking on transition to shrink the defense for kick outs to our bevy of excellent bomb throwers. Dugalic and Watson are doing this much better lately as they develop and benefit from our coaches amazing knowledge. The biggest thing I see is our defense. It is really coming around especially knowing your assignments in different types of defenses and especially defending the perimeter and communicating on pick and rolls. This bunch realizes as KG does that suffocating defense will get you by in games where your offense is struggling. I see this team advancing to the Great 8 and whatever they’re paying Mr G is a bargain. Oregon WILL best UCLA next time and give Stanford all they can handle. The future of Oregon basketball is very bright as the G.O.A.T., Sab told us! Go Ducks!
  20. I think with Boucher we would have played in the NCAA championship game.
  21. I believe that they could have beat Cal and easily. They are that talented and just need more minutes-together and just generally on the court playing against college players. Remember, this is the first time that any of them have been playing against other college athletes instead of being the best player on the floor in high school. Coach is tinkering with lineups to see which freshmen mesh with each other and the experienced ladies. I'm pretty sure we will see Dugalic in the starting lineup pretty soon. I also think Watson will be the first big off the bench as well instead of Giomi. Nice problem to have eh Kelly?
