  1. I am with you Chuck! It was track and field that gave me an Oregon team that I could root for in the mid 80s. The football team was not what it is today, But track and field was competing for titles. One of my fondest memories was being 13 years old with my dad sitting in the old grandstands yelling “Cruz” for Joaquim Cruz who brought Oregon a men’s track and field title in 1984 by doubling up and winning in the 800 and 1500 meters. Man that guy was smooth! The Crouser brothers for the javelin and shot put, as well as comparatively little Ken Flax in the hammer throw were a joy to watch. The funniest part of being there for that national championship, is this little story: My dad spotted Joe Avezzano, the Oregon State football coach in the stands. I believe Joe had the worst three or four year record in college football at the time for the beavers. My dad said that he would give me five bucks if I would go up to him and get his autograph. We hated the beavers, so it was so hard to do, but hey, I was 13 and it would take me an hour and a half to mow my neighbors lawn for five bucks. So I got the autograph and the five bucks. I can’t remember what I spent the five bucks on but I still have the autographed program guide to this day.
  2. I heard somewhere that he could possibly delay or skip his mission. Not sure if that is in play.
  3. I love everything that Josh Pate is saying. It gets me fired up for the future. Only one thing I disagree on is that, “ no Oregon coach has turned down a premier program to stay at Oregon.” I do recall that Mike Belotti turned down USC while he was coaching the ducks. But a bright outlook indeed.
  4. Anybody know if he got any stats at South Carolina last year?
  5. Great points to ponder. I didn’t think it was as close before your article. maybe Marcus gets the nod for the extra couple years in the program? A side note: Pro football hall of famer Mel Renfro does not have a w at the end of his name but perhaps he should for, “winner”. Also, I would personally not include Dion Jordan on that list based on your criteria but definitely Ngata.
  6. Of course, that reference is to Charlie Brown getting ready to kick the ball as far as it’s ever been before. Lucy pulls it out at the last minute. So much buildup. So close. And yet so far away. So much that was lost once again on a national stage. Anybody else having trouble wrapping your brain around this one?!
  7. My question is why were the Mutts attempting to throw on those last two downs with a chip shot field goal lined up for the win?!!
  8. Sounds like a consensus- Huskies and Penix played like their old Butt sniffing selves aided by the PAC 12 refs. thank you Duck buddies for the summary!
  9. I did not get to see the Washington versus Arizona State game. But looking at the stats and scoreboard had me wondering how the Sun Devils could hold the Huskies to only field goals while our Ducks gave up touchdowns? Were the Huskies just hung over or did Arizona State expose something in the Fusky offense that we missed? Just curious as to your thoughts.
  10. Thanks Hill Billie for that great post. I grew up in OakRidge but I am about 10 years behind you. But the names and events still bring back memories. it was nice to have your post as context, and contrast to the good times that we have of Oregon sports these days.
  11. I wanted to embrace Charles idea that this could be Oregon’s coming out party. I feel they are oh so close and trending in the right direction. But, alas, even if they were able to come out with the W, it would not have been quite the dominant stamp we were looking for. Let’s hope Oregon can get to the Pac 12 championship game and wipe out Washington or whoever gets there and I believe we can still be in the place that Charles was foretelling. My Green colored glasses remain firmly in place!
  12. Might need to make some shirts- “We won’t be Buffaloed!” With the Duck riding Ralphie.
  13. Jordan Burch had 0 tackles. Where was he?
  14. Ducko that is a great take. Maybe yours is a “half empty” and Charles is a “half full” but I agree with so much you said. Either way we are forced to take a wait and see approach with this defense and what Lanning sees in Tosh. Go Ducks!
  15. Thank you Charles for your deep dive into this defense. I must admit that when I saw that touchdown drive by Portland State, I said to my brother, “oh no, it looks like our defense has not changed from last year.” When you refer to, “defensive adjustments” that were made after that drive, would you say the adjustments were in personnel or scheme? Possibly guys getting coached up to be in the right position? Probably too early to tell, but aside from personnel, what makes this defense different from last year? Especially the Oregon State game when it seemed like no adjustments were made to the beavers pounding us all second-half with the run? Obviously more answers to come following this weeks game. As always, appreciate your take and glad to have someone help dispel some of my disquieting defensive thoughts.
  16. I will never be a fan of the Hurricanes, but I must say, I will be forever grateful!
  17. Great breakdown David. I agree that Irving can be as valuable as a piece to this year‘s team as Bo Nix. If there is no more billboard space left around the country perhaps we can get a Bucky banner up in the USC cafeteria.
  18. Love him but there’s some guys ahead of him, (Bobby Moore, DAT, to name an old and a new).
  19. I would love to see Thompson for the third quarter and Novostad for the fourth
  20. Am I allowed to say that I don’t like Lupoi? Never saw anything from him at his previous stops in the PAC 12.
  21. Nice post and welcome featherbutt. Like you, I moved out east, and relied on my parents to send me the Sunday sports section. In addition, when I was a kid, I used to race to the mailbox to beat my dad to the sports section before he got home from work as the guard used to be an afternoon paper delivery, believe it or not.
  22. Thanks Charles for providing a great place for me to get my daily, (often several times a day) Duck!
