  1. Things started as I feared, that the technique-tough Bears would slow Oregon's offense down, and they certainly did for a quarter and a half. I was admiring how well the Cal front seven did their run-fits, and how disciplined they were. Then at the end of the game I look up and see how Oregon scored their amazing season average of 42 points...and that took the bloom off the Wilcox rose to me. Then the moron play-by-play was glossing over how, "Justin doesn't have enough bullets." And who is responsible for that? When Jeff Tedford was at Cal, they recruited well, and took a ton of players we wanted, as I watch recruiting closely. No, I would not want him recruiting for me, although his defenses are very sound. Then we get to the DC, Peter Sirmon...I love what he did at Oregon, but like Wilcox and Musgrave... Hard Pass. I gotta appreciate what we have at Oregon....
  2. The play-by-play guy in the Cal game was a complete idiot, and annoyed me incessantly through the game. But when he made up the word in this thread title...it was all I could do to control myself from throwing something at my own television. You know...if Dazed and I did a telecast, we would not be as polished as those who have trained in the field, but I swear we could offer more to the audience. Then the Topper.... Look, some things really set me off, and when that moron referred to Nix's final touchdown run as "a fake," I truly was yelling at the TV, "it is not a fake, but a Zone Read!" The defensive end crashed, so Nix made the right read and pulled the ball. Routine...done a hundred times in this season and recent years. Yet this guy knows so little, says it wrong and gets paid for it? Like I said in this video 11 years ago, and I have it cued up right to the comment... Gawd, I loved that dog. I still miss her, and she's been gone for five years...
  3. I am locking this thread a little early because I have other stuff to attend to. If you have a prediction--send it to my email with all the tiebreaker stuff needed. charles@fishduck.com I must receive it before the game starts.
  4. If you want to go negative on GameDay....go for it. There is a ton I disagree with in your conclusions, but again--not doing it today. Let's just say that the period you refer to is in my wheelhouse, with over 100 analysis articles personally written and reams of articles on this site over the last 11 years. But I don't want to get into the weeds of that now. Another mischaracterization you made was painting anyone who does not wish to see so many negative views at a time to savor as, "off the rails in enthusiasm?" C'mon, that is over-the-top labeling that is inaccurate.
  5. Here we are my friends, the thread for discussing the actual game as it happens. Let's discuss before, and during the game! The vast majority of you are GREAT in this thread, but you must remember that this forum is different, as we require civilized discussion. Rule No. 31d covers GameDay thread conduct, and it is not hard for the vast majority of us--just a tiny few who need to reign it in. Let's Have Fun Posting During the Game!
  6. Wounded Knees wrote this and I'm combining the threads... Penn State-tOSU at half... 14-13 "PSU has CJ Stroud looking mortal. More sacks (2) on the last drive of the first half than Oregon's Nix has suffered all season."
  7. My thoughts precisely. After one game people were writing on this forum that Lanning would not survive the season, Dillingham was in-over-his-head and Ty should replace Bo for major minutes. How accurate was that? By contrast...it has been only seven fricken games, and now some OBD members have all three leaving at the end of this season--no question. Now, we cannot tell anyone in this forum what to think, feel or write--I do want to see all opinions. But geez....I gotta get to the Chiropractor for the severe whiplash following opinions in just seven games. My friends, this second half could be magical...I am going to enjoy it, savor it and truly appreciate it. I am not going to go out of my way to find negative in everything. But you are free to...
  8. Yep. I do want all views from everyone...even if they are all negative...on GameDay. IMHO, Lanning will not be headed anywhere soon, and yes he will get a contract boost if this season finishes as it has begun. Interviews by John Canzano of his parents revealed a deep sense of loyalty that Dan has, thus bolting after one year is not something I see him doing. Although we could bet a Duck coffee mug over it?
  9. For real? If so...Oregon could have it all? Staying in the Pac-12, and rolling it in? And a better shot at the Playoffs? (A ton of important information here) Kliavkoff says Pac-12 will "catch" Big Ten in revenue: Say what? WWW.MERCURYNEWS.COM The Pac-12 commissioner made two statements this week that seemingly stretch the imagination, but there’s a logic to his conclusions.
  10. That is very generous from you both and THANK YOU. Just for that....we have an article early tomorrow morning of DazeNconfused and I giving our items to watch for in the Cal game. Not much blah-blah from us! In the end...the sites control me.
  11. Boy is that the truth. A desert with lots of sand...
  12. You are completely correct, and I will guarantee that it will not change. Why? Because this is how the Athletic Department has set things up...they want suck-up, feel-good articles all the time and if you are critical--your access will be limited. That and how they allow interviews for most of the media, as everyone is recording the same interview as it happens. Thus if YOU ask a great question? Everyone else has it in their article before you have yours published, thus what makes you unique in your skills benefits everyone who is not deserving. Most press conferences are primarily softball questions, complemented by coachspeak and blah-blah. Yours-truly interviewing offensive guard Cam Hunt ten years ago when you could have a private interview. Not my best profile, but you get the idea.
  13. We have updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy pages to reflect the addition of advertising. On Desktop or Pad: At the top on a Menu Bar below the logo--are the updated links. Bottom Line: Anyone among the good people of this FishDuck Oregon Sports Community who enters their personal information when signing up will not have their name, email, etc. shared with anyone or any entity. Never have in 11 years. Typical advertising cookies you get on other sites...yes. See the TOS and PP for more information. And do NOTE the listing called Directions at the top of the site as well. It takes two minutes to learn something new, seconds to actually do it, and you have that knowledge for the hundreds of future posts. Cool! Directions are not hard.... you might be surprised!
  14. Awesome article Alan! Stub! I love it, as coaches should have a colorful name. I always liked, Spike Dykes at Texas Tech....how can not love a name like that? I do think a little more humor fits here...
  15. Great article, and I especially like how the TEs can be a big factor. Too many weapons!
  16. Hello My OBD FishDuck Forum Friends! What is your prediction versus Cal? Take your shot and let's have fun with it... Lets get these predictions started, and remember I look for the differential between your predicted points with both teams from the actual points. I will use the tiebreaker information when needed, so provide all the data below! Entries without all the information are invalid, and predictions on other threads don't count as I am not going to hunt them all down. I am no longer going to PM three or four people who don't read directions each week. Please follow directions, as I need all that is below for tiebreakers: --the winner --the score --the amount of turnovers Oregon creates --the number of sacks Oregon records on the opposing team --the number of passing yards by the Ducks. My prediction is: Oregon 37-23, 3, 4, 271
  17. (Oregon Athletics Press Release) EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon head women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves and redshirt senior Sedona Prince announced Friday that the preseason all-Pac-12 selection has suffered a torn ligament in her elbow that requires season-ending surgery. Prince has also chosen to exhaust her remaining NCAA eligibility and pursue a professional basketball career following surgery next month. Prince, who graduated this past May with a degree in general social science with a concentration in applied economics, business and society, has chosen to leave school to focus on rehabilitation and recovery with elbow specialists. “We are going to miss Sedona,” Kelly Graves said. “She has done so many wonderful things and has been an incredible representative of our program and the University. Her impact on collegiate athletics, especially in the area of gender equity, has been immense and will be felt for generations to come. I wish her only the best in all of her future endeavors. I cannot wait to see the ways she will continue to positively impact and change our world. Once a Duck, always a Duck.” “I’m heartbroken,” stated Prince. “I truly felt that this was the year I could showcase my work ethic and skills on the court, but also my self-growth and leadership ability. I tried to push through the injury and be there for my team, but after extensive evaluation from the best doctors in the world and looking deep inside myself at my passions and goals, I know that I have to take care my elbow now in order to ensure long-term health and a sustained professional career. As an elite athlete, current entrepreneur, and future wave maker I pride myself on creating and continuing to drive impact in everything I do. Not being able to play with my teammates this year is painful and tragic for me. However, I’m so grateful for the entire community of Eugene for their continued support and inspiration to always push forward through adversity. After all, pressure is a privilege." “I will always love this challenging program and its ability hold me accountable and to always elevate my game. The Eugene community took this Texas girl in immediately and made me feel like family. I will forever cherish the relationships and experiences I have made here on this journey.” In addition to being voted to the Pac-12’s preseason all-conference team for the third consecutive season, Prince was named to the Lisa Leslie Award preseason watch list for the first time in her career. The honor is awarded annually to the nation’s top center. A native of Liberty Hill, Texas, the 6-foot-7 Prince led the Ducks and ranked fourth in the Pac-12 with her 54.2 shooting percentage from the field last season. She also ranked second on the team in rebounding (4.9 per game) and blocks (1.3 per game) while finishing fourth in scoring at 9.3 points a game. Making a career-high 18 starts and 30 appearances in 2021-22, Prince scored in double figures 16 times and shot 50 percent or better from the field in 20 of 30 contests, including six of the last eight to close the campaign. In her three-year Duck career (50 games), she averaged 9.5 points per game while shooting 54.3 percent from the field with 4.4 rebounds per game and 1.4 blocks a game. Prince missed her freshman season at Texas in 2018-19 after suffering a broken right leg while playing for the USA U18 national team at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico City. After transferring to Oregon, she was forced to sit out for a second straight season after being denied immediate eligibility by the NCAA. Friday will mark Prince’s final appearance in a Duck uniform, as she will be honored prior to Oregon’s exhibition contest against Carroll College at 6 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena.
  18. Each of the three components, (Efficient offense, conservative defense and shortening the game) has smaller components that has management occurring like we rarely get to see. Your observation about the middle 8 minutes is more evidence of that attention to detail that few coaches follow, and comes under the use of the clock as you mentioned. Great stuff, and thank you for the kind thoughts.
  19. Omigosh! We MUST remember that line for when we return to Martin Stadium in the future...
  20. I believe I read in a post-game interview that leaving that much time left on the clock with each play was a mistake they need to work on. Because of that there was more time left on the final 4th down play than planned, and thus why Nix had to fade way back and throw the long pass into the air to burn more time. I expect to see us get better at that. Chip's teams were superb at going into what I called, "Turtle-Time."
  21. Dazed...you give us another fantastic post explaining what we are doing on defense, and how it coalesces with an efficient offense and a shortening-the-game tactic for an overall game strategy. You bring up a great point; we need to judge the defense in different terms, a different perspective based upon the objective as Dilly does (being efficient) on offense. When we consider what you wrote about what Oregon is stopping on defense, and accomplishing toward the overall team goals--the defense is doing better than most of us give credit to. I should not just look at points given up per game when so much is scored in garbage time. How much is scored after the game is no longer in doubt? A ton... Great stuff Dazed...
  22. Yep. The slants and perimeter-Bubble passes will be open all day with a Cover-2, but it takes time to grind down the field and may not result in points, or get disappointed with a field goal. And now the game is shorter to come back on Oregon, and the pressure on the defense to stop Oregon becomes even stronger. In the article, I have links to the article about our Cover-2 defense and our blitzing strategy, of which all work together toward the same cohesive result. (IMHO!)
  23. I love it, and reminds me of a great tennis players years ago, Martina Hingis who was called, "The Smiling Assassin" as she politely would skewer her opponents with a smile.
  24. Agreed. I've thought about that often. I would like to believe that when my instructional videos about the Chip Kelly offense were hot with all high school coaches and young coaches...that maybe Lanning and Dilly viewed them at that time? Thus beating Chip in Autzen would have seemed surreal to Lanning... And truly, what Chip did at Oregon cannot be duplicated by Chip again--anywhere. But Lanning is showing that perhaps he can Oregon back to those heights again...with an updated version of what Chip did in Autzen? Fascinating stuff.
  25. Your compliment Coach, means a lot to me. And I did not think of it, but Moneyball is a good comparison. As for Coach Tony DeMeo? He has contributed a ton to FishDuck over the years...
