  1. Hello my FishDuck Friends, To summarize, we are experimenting with changes to see what works, what does not and what are the trade-offs that occur when we make a change? For example a "page" of posts to a thread used to be 25 until this morning when I changed it to 49 per page. Why? Because we are streamlining the FishDuck Feed to have only 40-some of the best articles available per day, the most important Oregon Sports News articles each day with a minimum of redundancy. The positive? Now only one page for the 'Feed, and faster to scroll through and check which articles you want to read. It is important for advertising purposes too, because advertising occurs only on the first page of a thread...no matter how long it is. It will now begin to fill in beyond 25 posts over the next week, and not having ads beyond the first page of 25 left a lot on the table. The negative? You will be scrolling more down the page. For members...you have a very cool feature that will take you back automatically to where you left off reading, thus scrolling won't be an issue if you are using the "Reading Marks" to the left of thread titles/headlines on the front page of the forum. How do you use the "Reading Marks?" Easy, as quick directions are right here, and you will find this is the coolest feature of the forum! It is worth being a free member for that alone... Onward!
  2. Fun, fun read--thanks Drex! And it goes to show that none of us thought that Georgia would obliterate us, and none of could foresee the progress of the team since then. That is why I roll-my-eyes when someone comes in and acts as a "final authority" on a topic, because we all are correct in our predictions only about half the time. I've been humbled so many times, so your Bo prediction is quite forgivable, since I felt the same way and the facts pointed that direction. But I want to see all those opinions, as I learn so much from everyone.
  3. Again, astute businessman, HappyToBeADuck, gives us guidance as he wrote in a post in another thread about how if we went to "only-streaming." We could set our game times to compete with B1G and SEC games during the day, and allow our Duck fans in Portland to get home at a decent time...maybe even in daylight! If we were "streaming-only" we would have no interest about filling an evening slot and more people across the US, (and recruits) could watch us at convenient times. More people around the world could watch Oregon sports via streaming, and we would never have to play on a Friday night...unless we wanted to. And if we did--who cares who else is on TV? Now the new Canzano article posted hints that "streaming-only" is probably not the way the Pac-12 is going, but a combo approach between conventional TV and streaming. George wants everyone to be able to see games one way or another, and that is a fantastic start. As long as it generates enough revenue...??
  4. There is a ton of great information there about the future of the conference and hence, Oregon. (He discusses streaming!) Canzano: Pac-12 commissioner breaks his silence WWW.JOHNCANZANO.COM George Kliavkoff gives exclusive interview.
  5. The FishDuck Feed is the third leg of the FishDuck Oregon Sports Community within two free websites. To learn more about all three parts, read right here about them and the story of this unique community of Oregon fans. About the FishDuck Feed: Look for the Green Pinned Topic at the top of the forum, as that will be the day's Oregon Sports News and Articles, the FishDuck Feed. Can you help? Join our team of Duck News Hunters as anyone who wants to post an article is welcome to, but please do it in the reply posts below this first post. Just pop the URL of the article in the reply post and the article box should appear; if it does not...make sure there is a space above the pasted URL in the post. Please everyone...do not post any thoughts or responses about the articles in this thread as they will be deleted. We do not have room in this thread for all the articles, and the discussion that would ensue for many of the articles. We want discussion, but copy the URL of the article you want to discuss and start a new thread in the main forum area below. It only takes a minute to copy the URL of the article and paste it into a new thread, place a good title on it and put your thoughts in your post. (I've been told that people won't take the time to do that, but this is a very special community; do your part)
  6. Wow. With all the work I do after the game....I will be up into the wee hours of the AM. Better get more sleep the day before!
  7. It took most of Oregon fans three years and a few months...
  8. Janny...it is great to see your first post and I hope you will share your thoughts often. WELCOME!
  9. The ruling that came out today, September 19th in Federal Court, affirms that everyone has the right to assert their opinion on a social media platform. The key word is "opinion," and I want all opinions in this forum because those in the minority today can be the majority opinion in a year. The important element for this forum is how the opinion is expressed. Every opinion post written that was in violation could have been written and shared as an opinion without any issues. But the additional elements beyond the opinion, the behaviors are the problem, whether it be inappropriate aggression toward a fellow OBD member, or any other of the 33 rules. The rules on this forum are not based upon your opinion, as our rules are based on behaviors, specifically posts that are not "polite and respectful." And yes, I am also the keeper of the spirit here, as someone venting and spewing toxic bile a few times a day makes this not a fun place to hang out. Negative is fine, and there is a big difference between doing critical analysis and posting negative versus venting, as I explained here. I am really disappointed in having 16 violations in the first 15 days of the month, as people at times are not trying very hard to be nice to each other. I just permanently banned a frequent, prominent member last week because he simply could not control himself, and I will not have one person (no matter how times he/she posts great stuff) ruin the forum atmosphere for the good people of the OBD community. I realize you did not see all those violations because our fantastic moderators catch them immediately, and hide them from public view and turn them over to yours-truly. (Do hug a moderator today!) Do I really have to tell people to be nice? Yes. Do I really have to babysit adults? Yes. Multiple violators get banned because they create more work and stress for me. Sure, they may think some of their violations are mild, but they are violations, and require my enforcement or I will see more of the same behavior soon. Take up too much of my time babysitting you? You're out. Just be nice, and you will have no problem.
  10. Considering the talent and the coaching at Georgia....the rest of the schedule will seem much easier in comparison for the players.
  11. Below is what he wrote in an article this morning, and he has been good with this kind of information. Perhaps a media deal is coming soon? From John Canzano: My spider senses are tingling. The Pac-12 Conference has been quiet behind the scenes in the last couple of weeks and a few of my sources are acting like they’re knee-deep in serious deliberations. I have a hunch this week could bring some news — or at least some direction — when it comes the Pac-12’s media-rights negotiations and/or expansion. Last week’s debut of NFL Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime got a lot of us buzzing about the possibilities. Would the Pac-12 really go all-in with a streaming service? Is the money there? If so, it would explain the “hundreds of millions apart” leak on the Pac-12 and ESPN front. Further, the Pac-12 expansion question is looming. I’ve written about San Diego State, SMU, UNLV, Boise State and Fresno State at length. A few have speculated that the conference might be more aggressive, moving to add a soon-to-be Big 12 member or potentially targeting some Conference USA programs. I reached out to several high-level sources inside the Pac-12 in the last week, asking about media rights and expansion. Nobody wanted to go on the record. One source told me he couldn’t be quoted “…until we get to the other side.” It makes me think the “other side” is in sight. Keep your ear to the ground this week. The Pac-12 members likely have numbers from the bidders on the media rights front. The conference may be weighing a three-pronged dilemma: A) Take a pile of money from a streaming service knowing that you sacrifice distribution; or B) Sign on full-boat with ESPN for less money, but bask in the glow of the worldwide leader’s propaganda machine; or C) Some blend of both. I’ll have more on this as it develops.
  12. There are two other major components in this that can save the conference in my view. First is the new 12 team playoff that could be worth two billion among the competitors. One game could garner 50 million for one team alone, thus these are huge revenue boosters for athletic departments, even if they are viewed as a massive bonus in some years. The other one is the Pac-12 considering rewarding the winners; those who qualify for the NCAA basketball Tournament and CFB Playoffs do not get 1/12th of the revenue but HALF, with the rest split 11 ways. This will keep Oregon/Washington happy and preserve the conference. After all the concerns we had two months ago--we might be alright!
  13. We have an elite class of defensive linemen verballed to us for signing this February, and I've gotta think that with what recruits will see of Dilly's offense and how well Klemm has coached them--it would be very attractive. But it is a very thin year of high school offensive linemen, and there usually very few good OL available in the portal. We will be looking for late-bloomers, take a flyer on a project player or two and look at the JCs as well. But everybody is doing that with it being a thin year, so no assurances. I am confident that we'll recruit fewer D-Linemen next year, and more O-Linemen. Especially with how much fun this offense looks and will translate well for NFL prospects.
  14. C'mon...tell us why? I am curious as many might be.... (I'm in a pondering mood today...)
  15. HappyToBeADuck brought up a super-interesting point in another thread; what if Amazon or Apple go crazy and give the Pac-12 a colossal contract, like 50 million a year climbing to 100 million a year over seven years? This would match what we thought we would get by joining the B1G, and thus we could stand pat. Yet 60% of those who watch on TV do so through the cable sources, and we would lose a chunk of them? My TV is 10 years old, but I am able to watch stuff streaming as I did on the Pac-12 Network site for the away Oregon Baseball games. Yet TONS of people around the world could now see all the Oregon games via streaming. And we would be just as flush as the B1G, and yet save the Pac-12--would you be willing to pony up just nine bucks a month during football season to watch Oregon football on your computer, or get a TV that has that capacity? Season tickets for me (grandfathered with donation) cost me $1,800 a year, so $9.00 a month for five months is nothing...and I would consider it worthwhile to help Our Beloved Ducks. How do YOU feel about that possibility?
  16. He has stunned everyone, and the coaches affirming their faith in him during the Georgia game has been vindicated.
  17. I've seen a few of these, but pulling them all together like this from sources I have not read--seems to make more sense to me. I am good with adding San Diego State, lukewarm on the rest. How do YOU feel about adding the Aztecs after you read the short article? (From the FishDuck Feed) Why Utah opponent San Diego State is viewed as a prime candidate to join the Pac-12 WWW.DESERET.COM Could future Utah-SDSU meetings be Pac-12 games?
  18. We did quite a few analysis articles in 2017, and IMHO Taggart was very good at play-calling and having a diverse offense that was difficult to stop. Taggart had the best class in Oregon history when he left and Cristobal had great ones, but not as high as No. 2 or No. 3 when Taggart left. And we have to remember that Cristobal was there recruiting for Taggart, in addition to Willie able to smooth Florida parents. To me, in recruiting and game management--there is no comparison.
  19. Fellow OBD member and analyst Mike West believes that under Taggart--Herbert would at minimum been in the NY as a Heisman finalist. Arroyo was a much better OC/QB coach under Taggart than he was under Cristobal!
  20. To be honest...I do not know what went wrong at Florida State for him. I do believe that the group of assistant coaches he assembled at Oregon was pretty good, and most stayed with Cristobal. Chip was great with the Oregon coaching staff, but when he had to recruit his own at UCLA...not the same. (As he does not care for recruiting)
