  2. On the Other Hand - Cooper Flagg reportedly earned staggering amount of NIL money at Duke WWW.YARDBARKER.COM Cooper Flagg was a can’t-miss prospect during his time at Duke, and he was apparently compensated more than accordingly. $28 Mill in NIL deals. This may exceed the total salaries paid to folks in Maine, at least, Newport, Maine. 😁
  3. I wonder if a top 5 O-line is making $10 million in NIL dough? PFF says Oregon has one of the top offensive lines in the country DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon football has one of the most talented offensive lines in college football according to the analytical site PFF.
  4. I agree with Charles, IF this report is accurate, this is INSANE! Will this young man be better next season than OBD's TE Jamari Johnson, who transferred in from Louisville at less than 10 MILL? For benchmark purposes and FWIW, Sark has vehemently denied that Texas has a $40 million NIL payroll. House Settlement - $20.5 million 1st year direct payment cap. 75% is estimated to go to football, $15.375 million. 65% to one untested player? If the House settlement is approved, every NIL deal over $600 (😁) will be disclosed. What team bid this guy up to $10 million? Bama? Georgia? I don't see it. Why go gaga for the 2026 class when the floor and ceiling for a position will most likely soon be set? Is this a 'Recruiting Win' or an 'Auction Win?' At least at an auction, you have a good idea of what the item is worth. Frankly, I don't see this as any kind of win unless the young man single-handedly leads SC to a Natty, which under the current payout would be a $16 million return. Paying a recruit close to what you are paying the head coach? Maybe, maybe, $10 million if the guy plays ball for four seasons in South Central, but $10 million a year? 14 NFL TEs are being paid over $10 million a season. TEs under a 'rookie pay-scale contract' are earning @ $2.75 million a year. If this is true, please $C, do not $top paying absurd amounts of dinero!

  6. If CFB had a B1G/SEC challenge (doubtful), it could look like this. What would an SEC-Big Ten Challenge look like for the 2025 season? FOOTBALLSCOOP.COM It's Schedule Season in college football, the time of year where we learn the schedule for the upcoming season and argue about how future schedules should be formed. Should the Coming out of the SEC spring meeting, it looks like S(ec)SDD.
  7. Without reservation, I agree that it isn't over until signing day in December. I agree with others that it is senseless to overpay for untested recruits. I do have reservations about the 'once committed, no more visits' philosophy. How much time was wasted pursuing Curtis, who, at the end of the day, stayed with Georgia. Did this prevent OBD from being able to focus on other QBs, and did it turn off other QB recruits? There are only so many hours in the too-long roster management days. And young men's families and agents are pushing for the biggest NIL jackpot they can score. "How much more money can we get for Jimmy or Joe if everyone knows he has 'COMMITTED' to Oregon?" I find it interesting that with the mature players in the portal, you rarely see this parapetetic behavior. Make no mistake, I trust Dan and company when it comes to recruiting and picking the portal. But is a "commitment" just that or not? Perhaps the philosophy of recruiting should change to focus on who is truly committed, so the courting can end before signing day. I don't know my friends, and I cop to being an Old-Timer, but if someone is 'committed' and flakes out, well, how much do I want someone using us coaches like that on our roster? Someone who is attempting to leverage 3rd parties and us? If we're not going to play that game, increase our offer because you played footsie with us, what's the harm in telling a so-called commit," Here's a road map, son, go find yourself.' And today, there's a chance you will get a more mature recruit from the portal.
  8. Thank you, baseball and softball coaches and players, for terrific seasons. Thank you, Charles, for the great baseball coverage, 30 Duck for softball, and all of the Forum folks who contributed. As we said in Boston for decade after decade: Wait Until Next Year! 😁It took 'a while,' but Next Year did happen. 😍
  9. According to CBS, in 2025, OBD has the second-easiest B1G schedule. Ranking the Big Ten's toughest, easiest schedules in 2025: Oregon's path clear, USC faces uphill climb - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Not all college football schedules are created equal CBS Eye of the beholder; SP+ ranks 8 B1G 2025 schedules easier than OBD's.In preseason, a team's strength of schedule ranking will reflect how a given site ranks the teams before football is played.
  10. Thank you, Darren. Roster management in CFB and CBB is a full-time job. Dan and friends, to date, have not needed a GM, unlike $10 million a year men Lincoln Riley and Bill Belichick. In Bill's case, the GM is in addition to his granddaughter, er, GIRL-friend, following him around. 😁 A writer on a CFB site noted last week that a new criterion has popped up in recruiting and portal picking: Is having the young man on board worth having to deal with the young man's Old Man? In Wesley's case, at close to the same time his son cannon-balled "committed," his Old Man noted that his son's recruitment was not over. 🤪 I hate to ask, but in this day and age of NIL, is Lincoln Riley's approach the way to go? An SC "commit" takes further recruiting visits, and SC's offer disappears. In other Forum discussions on this subject, I have noted many comments supporting Dan and Division Street on not spending $4 million on a guy who led the SEC in Ints in 2024, and $2 million for a high school student who hasn't played a down of college football. IMO, the D&D Forum fans support is $pot On! See you in December on recruit and portal signing days. Until then, a CFB 'Commitment' is only a rumor.
  11. I heard two talking ESPN heads on Sirious, channel 84, opine the other day that Oklahoma is not helped by the finals being played in OK City. Bull 💩 !!!

Illinois coach Bret Bielema asked, so we answered: How the SEC has fared against Power Four in recent years - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Crunching the numbers on just how good the SEC has been in recent years It's a small sample size since NIL and largely unregulated transfers, but it appears that the B1G is closing the on-field results gap. Why the need for Sankey to beat this drum over and over again? What's the point? I guess, 'We'll play 8 conference games and the PO committee should put at least 6 SEC teams in the field every year."
  15. CBS Chimes In. Lacking CFP clarity, SEC faces blind decision on 8- or 9-game schedule with soft deadline looming - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Commissioner Greg Sankey said two years ago he was hoping to land the plane on a decision The ADs and the Coaches were not on the same PO format and scheduling page, and the ADs didn't know this before gathering in Florida? 🤔 Come On Man!

  17. Bo is not resting on last season's laurels. Bo Nix reveals how Broncos teammate humbles him after stellar rookie season WWW.YARDBARKER.COM While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Bo Nix revealed that an unnamed teammate has helped keep him humble following an impressive rookie season. I think there are a few good QBs in the Division, and so far, the Chipper seems to be happy with Geno Smith.
  18. One of Texas, Ohio State, Georgia, Penn State, or OBD will win the CFB title in 2025-26. One of these five teams will win the 2025-26 CFP National Championship WWW.YARDBARKER.COM The 2025 college football season is getting closer. Given the opportunity, would you take one of these five to win it all or bet the field? Note: 3 B1G teams and 2 SEC teams.
  19. When Even Your Friends Don't Get It? Why the Big Ten needs to vote for this specific CFP model SCARLETANDGAME.COM With the future of the College Football Playoff yet to be determined, the Big Ten needs to vote for this specific model that has been proposed. A conference's 6th best team should not be in the PO. This is exactly what would have happened last season with 9-3 6th-place South Carolina in the field. 9-3 Illinois, which defeated South Carolina in its bowl game, would have been left out. The B1G has implied that it could get behind the 5-11 format IF the SEC went to 9 conference games. The SEC hinted it was going to 9 games with no intention of doing so. Greg Sankey knew the lay of the land before he arrived at the SEC Spring meetings. Greg had not read the treatise that informs the world that the SEC deserves to have six teams in the field before he arrived in Florida? Maybe Tony Petitti likes lollipops but I can't believe he is this B1G of a sucker. Sankey and the SEC set the B1G up. And a guy writing on behalf of Ohio State can't see this?
  20. Exhibit, "A(uburn)" - Inside the SEC's aggressive bid to get their way with the College Football Playoff FLYWAREAGLE.COM The SEC is unsatisfied with two straight years of being left out of the College Football Playoff Championship Game, and to rectify it, the "It Just Means More"
  21. Compared to the PO posturing of Greg Sankey and his conference, the Longhorns/Buckeyes kick-off time is not that B1G a deal. As I explained in another post, this whole Advisory Committee detente looks like a front for Sankey to pivot and make Tony Petitti and the B1G look like the PO format bad guys. Looks like Sankey is going to sucker punch Pettitti like he did Bob Bowlsby while designing a new PO format and at the same time he was negotiating with Oklahoma and Texas to join the SEC. Before he arrived in Destin, Florida, for the SEC meetings, Sankey was not aware that in 2024-25, with a 16-team PO field and a 5/11 PO format, the SEC would have had six teams in the field? This is duplicitous and disengenuous. According to Greg, he heard for the first time in Florida that his coaches only want to play eight regular-season games, and the majority are not in favor of a B1G/SEC football challenge. He's this clueless about the tenor of his member teams? There are multi-millions of dollars at play here, and apparently, I'm the only Duck to have his feathers ruffled over what looks to be a S(ec)tab in the back. Sankey is the hero for backing a 5-11 format with Petitti and the B1G being branded greedy, selfish SOBs who care not about 'The Good of the Game.' I'm not throwing shade at you or the other SEC friends who post here. It's simply that I've seen this movie before when Pac-12 'leadership' led to an implosion of the conference. This will not happen to the Big Ten. However, Petitti couldn't see through Sankey's call to him to form an Advisory Committee and move in lockstep on college football issues could pivot into an in-your-face? That a 4-4-2-2-1-1 PO format, the leaked story of ESPN paying more for a 9th conference game, and the leaked story about the SEC wanting to play a football challenge, were only feints before the sword was turned in the direction of the B1G. I very much doubt the B1G, as it did a week before the SEC meetings, would have approved a 4-4-2-2-1-1, or alternatively, a 4-4-2-2-1-3 PO format, without believing the SEC also backed one or the other format. What are today's stories up on The Athletic, ESPN, CBS, and other CFB sites? "Hurrah! Sankey and the SEC look like they will ride to the PO format rescue." BTW, I hope the cynic in me is wrong, but I doubt it. If I am right, I expect the supposed detente between the conferences will righteously disappear. As to Texas AD Del Conte, he not only objected to the game being played on Sunday evening because he had to go to church (there are no churches in Columbus, Ohio, open on a Sunday?) but also that Texas with have a short week to prepare for the home game versus San Jose State. I believe the Spartans from San Jose will be four TDs or more under Spartans heading into this game in Austin, Texas. Again, this behavior is both snarky and disengenuous, with no respect shown to Ohio State and AD Bjork. Of course, the Week 2 Michigan at Oklahoma game will kick off at 7:30 EST on ABC. The SEC again jocks the B1G by having a broadcast partner that does everything it can to promote the conference during the week and by showing the biggest (sigh) SEC games in prime time. Fortunately, Fox did not have the option to show OBD at Penn State at Noon EST. This is a 7:30 game on NBC (with a former PSC QB in the booth) and a White Out. PSU and its fans are most pleased. OBD's 3rd game of the season at Northwestern will be a B1G Noon, 9 AM OBD body clock time, kick off. Count on the Penn State at Ohio State game, like the game against Texas, kicking off at Noon in Columbus. Again, I am throwing shade at Sankey and the B1G's 'leadership,' and not at you. I very much appreciate your, Nevada Dawg, and other fans of other program's posts.
  22. SEC Coaches Push Back? Spare Me! Future CFP formats: Here's where things stand after SEC coaches pushed back on model guaranteeing league 4 playoff spots SPORTS.YAHOO.COM After pushback from SEC coaches on a model that would guarantee four automatic bids for the SEC and Big Ten, the 5+11 format may now be favored. 24. Someone has to be the foil, why not a guy who coached 'up north'? This is the flip side of Saint Nick wanting nine conference games, as he so stated every year. Never happened. I hope I am proven wrong, but I see the Advisory Committee and the B1G/SEC detente as nothing but horse spit. The SEC will stay at 8 conference games and be lauded for doing so because the SEC was the Power 2 conference that wanted PO fairness. BTW, there is NOTHING in the B1G proposal that would prevent the SEC from scoring an at-large bid in addition to the 4 teams with guaranteed PO spots. No wonder Sankey supported straight seeding. He darn well knew that with 16 teams, 11 at large and straight seeding, the SEC would have had six teams in the PO in 2024-25. If the format was 5-11 last season, he would have screamed to the high heavens, along with his mates at ESPN, if 3-loss Illinois got in over Bama, Ole Miss, or South Carolina. I feel like I felt when the Pac-12 media deal turned out to be a bunch of tripe. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.
