  1. From CBS Sports. Questions for each Big Ten team in spring: Chip Kelly's debut at Ohio State among top storylines to follow - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Is Michigan, the defending national champion, reloading or rebuilding under new coach Sherrone Moore?
  2. 18 questions for 18 B1G teams. Questions for each Big Ten team in spring: Chip Kelly's debut at Ohio State among top storylines to follow - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Is Michigan, the defending national champion, reloading or rebuilding under new coach Sherrone Moore?
  3. Aiden Chiles transferring to Michigan State is not all about the money. Refreshing. Aidan Chiles’ non-NIL reasons for heading to Michigan State should excite Spartan fans SATURDAYTRADITION.COM Aidan Chiles is one of Michigan State's new quarterbacks, and he should have the Spartans excited to begin Jonathan Smith's era.
  4. Therein lies the rub. Moneyball guys will be paid. What price will athletes participating in other sports pay; especially, if a varsity team with scholarships awarded becomes a club team?
  5. Ole Miss' P4 opponent in 2024 is a game at Wake Forest. For Mizzou, the P4 opponent is Boston College. On the other hand, in 2024 Texas plays at Michigan. and Bama plays at Wisconsin. Florida in 2024 plays Miami and Florida State. Georgia opens against Clemson and plays Georgia Tech. SC plays LSU and Notre Dame. In 2025, Michigan plays the first of a H+H series vs. Oklahoma. Ohio State in 2025 begins a H+H series with Texas, followed in 2027 and 2028 with a H+H series vs Bama. Doesn't get much B1Gger OOC than these games. Oregon from 2025 through 2028 plays B12 opponents OK State and Baylor. Which is the better way to go? Until we see the playoff committee value strength of schedule and not just wins, and with 9 conference games in the B1G and a 10th game if you play in the champ game, how much is there to gain from playing top 10 opponents OOC? 9 B1G opponents will provide a decent SOS. In 2024, 2026, and 2027, Oregon plays both Michigan and Ohio State and plays UW every year. Add a P4 opponent, or play 3 G5 teams like Michigan did the last two seasons and Ohio State is doing in 2024?
  6. You could see this kind of stuff coming from a mile away. Chun and the basketball coach are supposed to go down with the ship, right? J. Smith was supposed to pass on coaching in the Power 2 to coach in the G5. These folks are unspooled.
  7. No. They certainly would not have 'won' as much. They did not sue for damages but for administrative relief. The Pac-10 did nothing to damage the Pac-2. The Pac-2 would have no claim for damages against the Pac-10 than they have vs ESPN and Fox. They were not worthy in the opinion of the folks paying the bills, the media, of being members of a Power 4 conference. If there was a conspiracy to crater the Pac-12, OSU, and WSU were part of the conspiracy. They were both 'board' members during Larry's tenure and participated in every bad business decision. Including hiring a guy to follow Larry who was also over his head and presented a terrible media deal to the Pac-10. As I have posted before, if the Pac-10 files a BK liquidation no way is the Pac-2 receiving 100% of the assets. Want to give OSU and WSU all of the assets, then make them eat all of the liabilities. As to a 'guilty conscience?' The Pac-2 both were actively seeking other alternatives. If invited to join the B12 both would have jumped at the chance. Want to keep playing the Beavers? Fine. But please do not change the facts of the matter. Oregon and the other departing teams did nothing wrong except screw up the timing of their notice of departure. The Pac-10 bent over because management is up of in the ether academicians and not business people.
  8. Perfectly understandable POV. But as to penalties being built into the grant of rights. There was no such agreement, an exit fee to be paid to the conference upon a team leaving the conference when Oregon and the other Pac-10 are leaving. The pledge of media rights expires before any of the Pac-10 officially depart. That's why the entire 'settlement' is baffling. It was not a 'settlement' but a total capitulation to the Pac-2. The Pac-2 had not sued the Pac-10 for damages. The Pac-10 agreed to accept their share of liabilities with no share of the assets.
  9. DC, I love your comment. But big-time B1G schools do not travel to G5 stadia even for 9 and 1. WSU has the same broadcast issues as OSU and the stadium is tiny and very hard to get to.
  10. A hyperbolic headline, typical of today's 'journalism' but a good take on the 2nd portal go-round. Hayes: April 16 is college football’s doomsday. Brace yourself accordingly WWW.SATURDAYDOWNSOUTH.COM The transfer portal opens April 16 and nothing -- absolutely nothing -- can stop the rash of players leaving for more money
  11. The Pac-2 and Pac-10 "settlement" is keeping no athletic department employee who is worth a spit in Corvallis and Pullman. Wazzu AD Pat Chun leaving for same job at Washington THEATHLETIC.COM Chun spent a half-dozen years at WSU after serving as FAU’s athletic director.
  12. OregonDucks - What are you missing? Nothing, you are spot on. What are the Pac-10 powers-that-be missing? Spines and brains.
  13. No. The rosters and the on-field success, what success there has been for both which is not much, will continue to decline. Kyle Smith who took WSU to the Tournament left for Stanford. As we know, J. Smith left OSU months ago for Michigan State. WSU Chun left WSU to take over as AD at UW. Certain journalists and other delusional hype artists can tout the Pac 2's opportunities but both OSU and GSU are G5 programs and will end up where they belong in the G5. The broadcast with CW? Why would Oregon not just a B1G member but a B1G title contender want to play in a small stadium in Corvallis on an afterthought of a network in front of unruly fans? I guess if Oregon State agrees to play all of the games in Autzen it might be OK to have OSU fill the G5 spot on the out-of-conference schedule. Michigan does not play E Michigan on the road. Ohio State does not play Kent State on the road. Home games make money for Oregon's neighbors in the range of $8M for every home game. I do hope that soon we will see both the B1G and the SEC playing ten conference games to even the home and away conference games at 5 and 5. With 5 away games, it will be important to play the two OOC games in Autzen. Finally, the future B1G schedules are set up to feature UW as Oregon's rival. This is considered to be the case by most Ducks fans before the move to the B1G.
  14. A jiff from Kiff. Lane Kiffin, transfer portal king, predicts spring chaos in 'really stupid system' SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin was asked about the outlook for college football's spring transfer portal window.
  15. Jabba, I do not think Danno can take another loss at the hands of the Huskies and gets the props he deserves as an HC. Danno and Ryan Day are on the spot when it comes to the rivalry game.
  16. Jabba, Chun is well respected in the industry and he comes with lots of B1G experience at Ohio State working for the extremely well thought of Gene Smith. And, UW's financials are not robust at this time even coming off a Natty appearance. I expect that Fisch probably was asked to sign off on the hire. With CBB coach Sprinkles in place, if Billy Napier is fired at Florida. Chun may have to hire a new CFB coach if the well-traveled Fisch is offered the job by his alma mater. Seems like a good hire to me but what do I know? In 2023 I had FSU 2-2 after 4 games!
  17. The Pac-2 scored (screwed) the Pac-10 for $65M. But when it comes to athletic department employees the hits just keep on coming. Will the last person out the door, please turn off the lights? Washington to hire Pat Chun: Huskies poach Washington State AD for same role ahead of Big Ten move - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Chun returns to the Big Ten, where he spent the first 15 years of his administrative career
  18. Excellent timing Alex. College football QB battles to watch in spring: Michigan, Ohio State, USC among intriguing competitions - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM The best competitions to watch as teams look to lock down the most important position on the field
  19. No, the April period concludes portal entry until December of 2024, unless a head coach is hired away, terminated, or quits. In this case, players have a 30-day window to transfer. But the next barrier to be challenged will likely be a challenge to any restriction whatsoever on a player's ability to transfer. Unlike the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL, college athletes have not agreed to any restrictions on transfers. Perfect timing by Harbaugh. Win a Natty for your alma mammy and leave for a league that has rules regarding transfers, a lid on player salaries, and rules that are enforced, against poaching. And you don't have to recruit high school kids.
  20. My guess is that the game against Texas Tech would have been broadcast on B1G Fox and not on a Little League network. The beat and the bending over carry on.
  21. $65 Million to "settle" what? A Washington state court determined that the Pac-2 were the sole board members and at the same time warned the two not to abuse the decisions. Abuse the situation is EXACTLY what the Pig-2 did. The Pac-2 filed no suit claiming damages against the Pac-10. Being the only 2 members of the 'board' means these two owed a fiduciary duty to the other members picking up 80% plus of the conference liabilities. This is bass-awkward. I ask again: What in the hell is going on out there? And Pac-10, Is there a lawyer in the house? One that passed a bar exam or two? One that knows something about corporate law and civil litigation? $65 Million out the door when you were being sued regarding an administrative matter and not a suit claiming damages.
  22. $65 Million for the Pig 2 and counting. ABSURD! Washington State, Oregon State to Get $65M in Settlement with Leaving Pac-12 Schools BLEACHERREPORT.COM While Washington State and Oregon State will watch the other 10 schools in the Pac-12 depart for different conferences this year, they will at least receive…
  23. Dusty May to Michigan: What to expect from the Wolverines’ new coach SATURDAYTRADITION.COM Dusty May is taking over the Wolverines' basketball program just one year removed from a run to the Final Four. What should Michigan fans expect?
  24. Washington officially announces new head basketball coach for move to Big Ten SATURDAYTRADITION.COM Washington has hired a new coach to lead the Huskies in 2024-25 as the program officially moves into the Big Ten.
