Ducks Football: 4 Things to Watch for Against Hawaii
Good take. But guess who has bought in? Season tickets for 2023 and 2024 CU football are sold out. After-market tickets in Boulder last week were going for more $ than in Tuscaloosa. A team that was 1-11 in 2022 has had its first 2 games broadcast on the Fox Big Noon game telecast and ESPN Gameday will be in Boulder, along with the Fox pregame crew, to watch CU play Colorado State. (Colorado State?) A Week 4 game against CU in the past would likely have been a 10:30 p.m. Eastern time kickoff on the network no one watches. The game now kicks off on ABC at 3:30 Eastern. Due to the Deion hire and the success to date, literally millions of more eyeballs will be on this game than would have watched in 2022. This is a big media win for Oregon and can only help Oregon's recruiting and final average viewer numbers for this season. I don't believe that any coaching hire in the history of CFB has returned this kind of immediate ROI including the Bama hire of Saint Nick.

Ducks Football: 4 Things to Watch for Against Hawaii
Coach Timmy Chang's, a great QB at Hawaii, version of the Rainbow Air Raid is perfect for the Ducks D to get ready for Prime Time and Sons. To date, Hawaii is 1-2. Hawaii has thrown the ball an average of 42.66 times a game. Overall, 128 - 80 - 5. QB Brayden Shager has managed 7.59 yards per average completion. Average passing yards - 324. Total average O - 373.3. This is definitely a pass-first group. Let's see if the pass D can play together more cohesively and stay away from PI calls. Thank you, Alex. Vegas' 6.5 line was bet down to 4.5 at game time. The folks in the desert know what they are doing. Thank goodness that Jeffery Bossa did not take a knee. Lots of folks (including Yours Truly) were very happy to see the late TD that provided a cover and the game going Over the early line bet of 67 points. Aloha.

So, How'd He Do - Mark Helfrich?

What About Oregon's Secondary?
Or, simply being able to react quicker on the field of play? Since Chip, how many Os will give you a lot of time to get signals in?
-
What About Oregon's Secondary?
Charles, is the system too complicated? I witnessed good athletes working to be more 'in position' than exercising their athletic ability. But that's just me and I am not the X and O guru that you are. Oregon has an excellent roster but is it a roster developed to the point where it mirrors the Georgia roster? I don't think so. FWIW, not all that much, I see too much 'thinking' getting in the way of athleticism. I see a failure to communicate among the back 7. Yet, I also see a team that is 2-0 and a coach who is 12-3 so I'll defer to more knowledgeable folks like yourself and Coach Boles.

Dan Lanning is SERIOUS About Michigan State?
PF was not suggesting that Prime replacing Saint Nick will or should happen in the near future. He said that if Prime keeps on keeping on at CU he could be the best choice. Shedure has 1 more season at CU, I'm not certain about Shilo, but I do not see Deion leaving before 2025 if then. Like many, Deion has to know that it will be easier to qualify for the PO in the B12 than the SEC. This is a season where the SEC finds its QB pants down. What until next season for the Pac-12, Ooops!

It's Pawwwelll. Stir the pot. This comment came during an interview with SI's Pat Forde and PF was careful to note that he definitely not retire before he is ready to retire.

Oregon’s Defensive Front Shows Its Potential Against Texas Tech
Thanks once again, Mr. Marsh. As noted by Kirk Herbstreit, who picked TT pregame, the Ducks W in Lubbock was one of the best wins of the week. TT was 6-1 at home last season with wins over Oklahoma and Texas. TT had won in its first home opener 23 seasons in a row. The fans were electric and the weather favored the guys from Texas. TT will win at least 8 and probably 9, football games this season. I do not mean to go Debby Downer but what about the OL? The WYO OL the week before played much better and were in synch far more than the Oregon OL on Saturday. The Ducks run game was awful. Caused by calls from the TT D side? That's weak. Against so many teams in this conference in 2023, The Conference of QBs, Oregon has to be able to run the ball and keep the ball out of the hands of quality QBs and quality receivers. Yes, there are a lot of new starters but all of the newbies have played a lot of football. If crowd noise and D signals are messing you up, you go with silent counts after the initial HUT! The OL assistant Oregon lost to the Pros was missed on Saturday. And the play calling? The verticle throws, Bird Bombs, thank you, Charles, were there early and I do not see the reason for Stein going away from the deep ball. TT had no DB who could cover Franklin. The 1st game was against the junior, junior varsity. The rubric is that teams improve the most between their 1st and 2nd game. Seeing as how the 1st game was a glorified scrimmage, I expect Oregon will improve significantly playing at home against the Rainbow Warriors. Again, I'm picking nits. That was a terrific gut check win under very trying circumstances.

Pac-12 refs. What does anyone expect? These guys were apparently auditioning for a gig in the B12. The game is too B1G for Pac-12 refs. And the B1G has already swipped the best Pac-12 refs from So Cal.

Yesterday, Paul Finebaum suggested that the end is near for Saint Nick and the replacement who would make the most sense is: PRIME TIME.

Watts that? Probably a Beavers fan.

Dan Lanning is SERIOUS About Michigan State?
Very interesting that all of this came about when the two yuppies you are paying Tuck's absurd salary own a mortgage finance company that is taking it, thanks to the Federal Reserve, in the shorts. I in no way mean to question or pass judgment on the young woman's complaint. I think Watt's brain was depleted of energy some while back but if Tucker is fired for cause Michigan State would owe him nothing and would have money available to pay for another coach's going away payment. Dantonio is already on the scene to help out against UW and down the road in 2023 if need be. Perhaps MSU will come with the money to convince Dantonio to forego retirement for a few years? Dantonio got a lot out of the roster he had in hand. But as Charles and many others have noted, why would DL uproot his family for a lateral move and not a whole lot, relatively speaking, more dollars? At Oregon, DL will routinely defeat MSU. At MSU he will not routinely defeat Oregon or a Michigan team likely to be on the schedule every season. He may not do so at Oregon but at MSU he would have no hope of out-recruiting Ohio State. DL has a solid NIL partner with Division Street. What would he have at MSU?

Oregon vs Hawaii: All Time Record
Oregon vs. Pearl Harbor. A game that will live in infamy! In 1941, the Willamette University Bearcats, champions of the Northwest Conference were in Pearl Harbor, scheduled to play San Jose State and Hawaii, and on the way to sightsee and visit the naval base. These plans were changed. Photos that one of the Bearcats players took of the attack are on view at WU.

Week 2 AP and Coaches Polls Are Out
Log, great take but I do not expect to see a 2L team in the PO prior to PO expansion next season. I believe it will continue to be the 2L kiss of death in 2023. SOS be darned. I see 2 out of 3 of Penn St, Ohio State, and Michigan losing only 1 game. (Other than these 3, the B1G teams look slow.) Same with FSU. Maybe without having to play a 13th game, Notre Dame? USC will be a witch but the Domers game at Clemson does not appear to be all that daunting. Texas (I know) has a shot at going undefeated or not losing more than 1 game. Texas's remaining away games are at Baylor, Houston (just lost to Rice and traveling man JC Daniels,) TCU, and Iowa State. Oklahoma is of course a neutral site game but the Sooners did not look like World Beaters vs. SMU. Georgia should finish no worse than 12-1. And LSU I think is better than it looked in the opening game. There are lots of undefeated teams out there after Week 2. Maybe a 2L team sets a precedent in the last season of the Final 4? But this would mean a lot of 2L P5 conference champ teams and 2L brand name teams such as the B1G 3, Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and others. If Tennessee loses a close game vs. UGA the Vols could get in with an 11-1 record. Pac-12. Will any team get through the 9-game gauntlet in a conference with 8 teams Top 25 ranked? CU, OR ST. and Wazzu were historically pencil-it-in wins. Now? Cal missed 3 very makeable FGs in the loss to Auburn. QB de Laura kept throwing to the wrong colored jersey in Starkville yet AZ took MS ST into OT. AZ will be a tough out at home for any team. NO Easy Day out west. Nevertheless, if an undefeated Oregon can get by the undefeated Prime Time Ralphies, the first 6 games, now that the Ducks have ended TT's 23-in-a-row opening home games winning streak, set Oregon up to get the new OL and the new guys on D integrated and used to playing together. And don't look now and yes, it's Stanford but the SC D looked good on Saturday and SC has the week off before the champ game. Utah is P5 2-0 without its solid starting QB. UW's O is firing on all cylinders. Who knows how good Oregon State is? Moore appears to be the real deal and UCLA has by this conference's standards, an easy schedule. Oregon with the most experienced starting QB in the nation and any of these other teams could finish 12-1. It's going to be a heck of a season.

Oregon-Colorado Game Time and Broadcast Scheduled
An old man on the Right Coast says Bless You for a 3:30 kickoff time. It's during nap time but I'll make an exception for a Prime Time game being played early.

Ducks Disrupt in Lubbock: Penalties and Interceptions
I think that the Beavers and Cougars have filed a restraining order ORWA state court against any Pac-12 teams other than the Pac-2, being able to file a complaint with HQ. Merton Hanks? SC will enjoy its first bye of the season in Week 3 so it will be prepared to have the week off before the conference champ game.

The Game is Afoot! Who knew that Professor Moriarty was a CFB fan and journalist? I guess the good Professor does not stay up late. He missed the Arizona and Cal scores.

Ducks Disrupt in Lubbock: Penalties and Interceptions
I hope DL called this out to the Pac-12 refs doing the game; the D mimicking snap calls is supposed to be a penalty. I thought DL's comment here was a bit lame.

Week 2 AP and Coaches Polls Are Out
Great take. But Bama is 1-1 with a blowout of a junior varsity team and a home loss to the 1 P5 opponent it has played. Bama is ranked in the top 10. Why? It's Bama. The Pac-12, 6-3 vs. P5 opponents OOC, deserves all 8 rankings. The pollsters responded correctly moving #23 Wazzu into the Top 25 after a convincing win over previously ranked, #19 Wisconsin. Arguably, both #18 CU and #12 Utah with 2 P5 wins, one win for each coming on the road, should be ranked higher. Oregon #13 and Wazzu #23 both have P5 wins. #5 USC, #8 UW, #16 Oregon State, and #24 UCLA do not yet have a P5 win. Of these 4, only UW, at Michigan State, will play a P5 team before conference play begins. (You think that CU today is happy to see Mel Tucker gone and Prime Time in Boulder?)

Week 2 AP and Coaches Polls Are Out
Jon Wiler confirms it! 8 Pac-12 teams ranked in the AP Poll is a record accomplished before only by the SEC. Using the AP Poll and projecting Oregon State to be in the Mountain West this would be the 2024 playoff field using the top 5 conference champs and 7 at-large (AL) teams in the field. Staying with the top 4 conference champs having a 1st round bye. 1. Georgia - SEC vs. 9. Washington - AL at 8. Penn State - AL 2. Michigan - B1G vs. 10. Notre Dame - AL at 7. Ohio State - AL 3. FSU - ACC vs. 11. Alabama - AL at 6. USC - AL 4. Utah - B12 vs. 12. Oregon State (MW) at 5. Texas - AL 5 B1G/ 3 SEC/ 1 B12/ 1 ACC/ 1 Independent/ 1 Mountain West Note - UW at PSU and ND at tOSU might have to be relocated to an indoor facility. Otherwise, both games could be a literal White Out.
