  1. Terrific comment. However, in 2022 Bama came oh-so-close to dropping 4 games. Saved by the 2021 Heisman winner on a number of occasions. One thing I really liked about Bama in 2022 was that the Tide showed up for the Sugar Bowl and its stars played in a 'meaningless' bowl game on the way to defeating K State. BTW, Bama delivered a nice cover in this game.
  2. And do not forget the $ UCLA has to pay as a 'tax' to CAL. UCLA did beat Northwestern and is in the Sweet 16 against the winner of today's Gonzaga vs TCU game.
  3. 2 seed Arizona lost to 15 seed Princeton but Pac-11 member San Diego State came through with a victory. The odds of having a 100% accurate bracket prediction are about the same as me shooting par.
  4. Love it. And when right he usually authors an obscure insight into the obvious. He has no reason to kiss the SEC's posterior any longer so why not go after the Pac-10? He is single handily making the MIZZOU School of Journalism resemble Journalism 101 at a JC. I do not believe the dingbat president at U of A should not be let off the hook. Why give Dodd an interview to begin with?
  5. The B1G commissioner lying to the Pac-12 and ACC commissioners was 'well played?' I know this gentleman is a respected surgeon but he came off sounding like a wishy-washy jerk; jerked around by B12 guy Dennis Dodd. With partners like this?
  6. He also mentioned that Arizona was one of the 3 Pac-12 schools that voted in favor of forming the Pac-20. He said the decision to expand to the Pac-20 'got complicated.' Among other complications was SC's Carol Folt leading the charge to crater Pac-12 expansion. I thought the man's comments were all over the map. He was 'sucker punched' by Dodd's leading questions. Princeton. Karma for agreeing to an interview with Dodd?
  7. The B12 jumped ahead of the Pac-12/10 and then settled for an OK (pun intended) linear media deal at $31.6M a year per team. Adding BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF are not 'value-added' additions compared to what the B12 is losing. Agree with the call on the B1G but the soon-to-be 16 members are all schools with a huge # of graduates and the B1G launching a network with FOX as a media partner was brilliant. Also population wise it helps the B1G to be in the eastern and central time zones. Yeah, CBS and NBC are in the mix but only to 'pick up the pieces." SC/UCLA has to deal with tough travel and I expect close to all of the home games will be played in the dark. This is a race for the bronze. I believe the Pac-10 definitely beats out the ACC media deal and likely beats the or comes oh-so-close to the B12 media deal. The Power 2 media deals? The remaining 'power conferences' will not come close. But in the long run, the Oregon and UW brands are behind only Notre Dame and right there with FSU and Clemson. And the timing of the new media deal to end a year prior to the B1G deal is a sound financial decision. And if the streaming element works it could lead to a terrific ROI. Games on Peacock and the CBS streaming entity will feature the crummy B1G games. Ohio State/Michigan will not go streaming away. Thanks for the great comment.
  8. That's why there are all of those big buildings in Las Vegas known as casinos. In the long run, the house does not take an L.
  9. Depending on the clout of OR/OR ST in the legislature and the influence of PK I would expect a move by Oregon to be approved with a possible 'tax' on Duck revenue like the tax imposed in favor of CAL on UCLA?
  10. So long as you are eating all veggie tacos you are probably safe? "Look out kid it's something you did' God knows when but your doing it again!' - Bob Dylan
  11. Kurt, excellent take. The answer to your question regarding the stupidity of salons is a resounding "YES!"
  12. THIS is even worse than the legislature attempting to dictate the right to decide whether Oregon/Oregon State can leave for a new conference. What are the Oregon schools and their respective AD supposed to do if this excrement was to pass? Surround the field with police officers? Frisk all patrons on their way into the stadium. 'Nothing is more dangerous than a legislative body in session.' - Mark Twain
  13. The Oregon solons have nothing better to do? SMH. The Oregon schools are not governed by the a board of state regents as is the case in California.
  14. Instead of posting ASU President Michael Crow's solid commitment to the Pac-10 Dodd used leading questions directed to the Arizona President to stir up more stuff about the Pac-10 breaking apart. Endeavor consulting, working with the B12 has Dennis Dodd in its pocket. The Arizona President said that Arizona is 95% committed to the Pac-10 and there would be no sense in moving if the B12 media deal is a few million more than the Pac-10 deal. Dodd spins this into both CU and Arizona possibly leaving for the B12. Larry must have done something to tick off Dodd. Arizona president talks keeping Pac-12 together, TV deal expectations, deadlines, Big 12 interest and more - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM In an extensive conversation, Robert Robbins explains the state of the Pac-12 may not be what it seems Dennis Dodd is a tool; a tool for the B12.
  15. And hats off to ASU for winning its NCAA play-in game handily vs Nevada and to CU for winning a close game in its NIT opener.
  16. Streaming is risky. But as well know my Vegas good friend there is no return without risk. Unlike the network that was without a media partner set up to fail, I think the future lies in streaming. At 76 I'm not the demographic that matters. It's 'the kids' who matter and I think GK is on target in saying that he wants Pac-10 sporting events to be able to be watched on anything with a piece of glass.
  17. The GOR is expected to end 1 year prior to the new B1G deal ending. I think this is smart timing and represents a 5-year deal. Thus the new deal will also conclude before the B12 deal and the ACC's deal. This time frame also allows time to determine whether streaming college sports, at least Pac-12 sports, will provide a decent return for both the streaming entity and the conference. Jim Delany was roasted when he came up with the idea to form an all-sports network for the B1G. Turns out that the B1G and FOX both hit a home run. Larry struck out because he had the conference go-it-alone without a media partner. Streaming works and today's oft-maligned GK could be the toast of the Pac-10 and the nation.
  18. This is groundbreaking negotiating; no streaming source outside of ESPN+ is involved with broadcasting college sports. Plus, GK inherited a mess of a network. I agree that no school is likely to leave for a few million more and I still question whether FOX and or ESPN want to come up with $31.7M for each of the four corner schools to move to the B12. Also as I noted before why would any of the 4 agree to take a smaller cut than BYU? I'm keeping the faith. I do expect further consolidation down the road so the Pac-10 deal expiring a year before the B1G's new deal makes a lot of sense. Who knows how happy the LA schools will be after a few years with all of the travel? Staying at 10 teams may be the smart choice and more lucrative in the short run. The B12 was a Power 5 conference for many years with only 10 teams and no divisions.
  19. The Arizona president also voiced support for the Pac-10.
  20. Indeed, he was one of Larry's biggest enablers. I liked what he had to say here but when it comes to realignment trust no one.
  21. A fair and balanced take. Friend Joshua finished ahead of Canzano pointing out the need to improve the D in 2023.
  22. Will this affect the calculus regarding the Ducks possible move to the B1G? Oregon Football: New UO president’s has conference realignment history DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM The new UO president has been vocal about his approval of conference realignment and Big Ten expansion in the past.
  23. Hayward, with the $ a pro baseball team would be paying him do you think the team would let him play CFB? I know this has happened before but today we are talking huge dollars.
  24. I should have noted that AAU member and ACC member Georgia Tech could also be attractive for both the B1G and the SEC.
  25. PA Duck and anyone else, do you have any idea where this gentleman stands regarding college athletics? Wisconsin is historically very good in football, basketball, and ice hockey. But does this gentleman give a whip about sports? I'm hoping he is not another Bloch at UCLA. As an economist, I hope he understands how success on the playing field and court lifts all boats and helps the bottom line. I wonder what role if any he played in terminating Paul Chryst and bringing in Luke Fickell as HC of the football team?
